  1. It is a left field appointment but to be honest I would rather have an experienced guy like Warnock in charge for the rest of the season than Barry Robson, who just did not know what he was doing. Whatever anyone thinks about Warnock, he has been a manager for 2000 odd games for a reason, he is competent manager, you don't get to that many games by luck or coincidence. I have never understood people who disregard managers because of their age, it is a total nonsense. I have heard people say that about Mourinho, oh he's a dinosaur and all that rubbish. Experience is the one thing you cannot buy. In my opinion managers get better as they get older because they have had time to learn from their earlier mistakes. The point that stood out for me from his press conference is when he said 90-95% of being a manager is man management and the more I watch this stupid game the more I buy into that by seeing how some players turn it on under one manager but not for another. I reckon Warnock is the type of guy that players will run through a brick wall for. Happy to give the guy a chance. The worst that can happen is we get pumped in the cup and finish 10th in the league which is how things were looking they would pan out under Robson anyway. If the guy was Swedish the majority of our support would be thinking this was a masterstroke.
  2. Robson/our recruitment team must be watching the wrong team. We don't need defenders. The Celtic games aside, we have conceded 23 goals in 18 games but in those same 18 games we have scored just 22. We need people to create and score goals. The defence and goalie ain't really that bad.
  3. Interesting point actually, Rico as to whether you would ever want to see your team lose. I can see the argument by those who say give Robson until the end of the season. My concern would be, if we happen to have a decent end to the season then presumably we are stuck with the same guy for next season and with the best will in the world I don't think any of us reckon he is good enough. There is always an element of luck involved in appointing a manager. In Milne's time as chairman, a lot of the managerial appointments may not have worked but you could kind of see the basis behind why he might have given them the job in the first place. Eg. someone like Alex Miller had done well at Hibs and won a trophy, Steve Paterson had been successful at Caley albeit it didn't work out at Pittodrie. With Cormack, I don't know which hat he would used to pull out the names of Glass, Goodwin or Robson because none of those would even have been in my top 20 candidates for the job. I think with each of these names, most of our fans were looking forward more in hope than in expectation that their tenure as boss would be successful. We have created a problem for ourselves in that if we dispense with Robson, we are getting into the cycle of ditching managers every 18 months which is not great. The issue is, until we appoint someone with a decent track record in the first place I think this is going to keep happening.
  4. MASSIVE opportunity the Scottish Cup presents us this season. Drawing Clyde and Bonnyrigg means we effectively have to win three proper games to lift a trophy. We've only won 13 domestic cups in 121 years, we should be chucking all our in eggs in one basket for this competition, you don't get any trophies for finishing third in the league.
  5. Wow! Big blow to the North East. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-67918029
  6. Has to be said, there is much more love for Ferguson now that he is playing in Italy than there ever was when he was actually our player.
  7. Play in the Championship next season
  8. The guy’s 12 points clear of us with a fraction of the budget we have, it’s a no brainer. We moved on because he had virtually no financial backing from Cormack, nothing close to what those following him have had.
  9. #bring_back_del
  10. So, interested to know if it was just me that wondered why thon english wifie goalie didna bother to get dressed for the sports personality of the year event? Surely bordering on the pornographic? Her mother must be so proud.
  11. We should point blank say he is not for sale until the end of the season. We are 3 points off the bottom of the league, now is not the time to be selling our best player. God knows how many points we would have had by now if Miovski had not been in the team this season
  12. I disagree, he's never had a proper chance Rico. He's had 7 caps and played the 90 minutes once. The last four caps were 1 minute last night, 4 minutes last week, 1 minute against Spain in March and 3 minutes against Slovakia in 2020. It's nonsense like that which makes players walk away from the international squad.
  13. Looks like Clarke does not fancy Shankland as a player at all. To bring him on with a handful of minutes to go in each game says it all because the guy is in decent form. It must really wrangle with a player to be brought on in the 88th minute and I'd imagine that is especially the case with a striker as they are so conscious of how their goals to games ratios look nowadays. On a separate point, got to wonder what the hell Jacob Brown has done to merit an international call up, never mind a cap. No goals this season in the league for Luton. Seriously? We'd have been better just playing Christie up front. Was it just that we needed a token black guy for diversity purposes?
  14. It's decent. Makes him out to be a far better player than he actually was, as does his CV. I don't think in fitba terms he will be looked back on in years to come as a great which is incredible considering he earned well over 100 caps. Had to chuckle over the Simeone incident, 25 years later England STILL think they were the victims and paint Simeone as some sort of con artist. Must have been an imaginary kick by Becks .
  15. Got to say Ange is class despite his Parkhead links and Spurs are ace to watch. A huge difference to some of the shite that some teams serve up. He also didn't moan once about the referee last night having had two players sent off, two goals disallowed and a penalty given against him. A Spurs fan would surely have gone away from the match last night thinking they had been entertained even though they lost.
  16. If you look at the second video in Elgindon's post above, Roos actually plays the ball with his right hand. On the other one, I thought at the time it was not a penalty but harsh to book Miovski for diving. Pretty tough run of games coming up: PAOK (a) Celtic (a) Rangers (h) Helsinki (a) Hibs (a) Killie (h) Hearts (h) Frankfurt (h) Final
  17. That’s a strange one because he has not used the squad at all. I know we are not privy to training but Robson must be thinking a lot of our signings are just not up to it. The likes of Williams, MacDonald, Dadia, Sokler and Gueye really have not had a chance. Seems like we are handicapping ourselves by relying on the same group of players all the time.
  18. I hope he gets a bit more time and certainly if he wins on Saturday then you have to give him a crack at the final but I don't agree he's doing alright. This season it's played 17 with 5 wins, 5 draws and 7 losses. That is poor by anyone's standards. I think the Europe thing is a poor excuse. If you look at the Championship in England, they basically play 2 league games every week of the season so we cannot really use the excuse of too many games.
  19. I don't know if that could ever happen in reality to be honest. Would Robson (or anyone else) have taken the job knowing that he would be in on a Monday morning having to explain to someone every tactical change and substitution he had made at the weekend? Does that happen in other clubs? I really don't know. I find it hard to believe that Gerrard would have had to do that at Rangers for example but maybe I am wrong. I get the idea of a sounding board and someone to lean on but that should be the job of the assistant and the other members of the coaching team, it always has been in the past. People with the footballing backgrounds of Robson, Agnew and Neil Simpson should have the capabilities of working it out on their own. Levein tried that overseeing thing at Hearts and it ended in disaster. Robson is the man Cormack deemed better suited to do the job than an experienced head like McInnes and if that is the case he should not need to be babysitting him.
  20. I know what you're getting at Rico but can you imagine the scenario if you had someone that had never played or managed questioning the manager's game plan/formation/tactics. He'd be told to fuck off double quick. I just think you need a strong experienced assistant manager which is maybe where Agnew falls down?
  21. Hmm not sure Rico. There’s a scouting/recruitment system in place, a director of football, a cracking training ground and a pretty decent level on investment in the playing side. All Robson has to do is pick the right 11 players and form a gameplan, I mean how much backing does Cormack need to give him to do that? I don’t see how Robson’s backing from above is less than any previous manager has had from this or any previous board but of course we are not privy to all that happens behind the scenes. Now seems like a fair amount of time and games have passed to judge Robson and to me, he’s just not cutting the mustard. I am not sure he actually knows his best 11, he has no particular style of play and looks poor on the tactical front. Even when we do get a good result, it seems a lot of the time, to be papering over the cracks. On Thursday night for example, despite the decent second half, we were absolutely abysmal in the first. His post match interview today looked a bit like he had run out of answers. To suggest they could not play football because the pitch had been narrowed is a real disservice to Killie who were excellent and managed 19 attempts at goal. He would have gained a lot more respect by simply saying we were beaten by the better side and we’ll need to get back on the training ground tomorrow to improve before Wednesday.
  22. Sorry but we are an absolutely horrible team to watch. It’s a hoof up the park every time. So few times we actually make more than two consecutive passes.
  23. Nah, not for me Panda but it's a game of opinions. It's a coming together and fitba is a contact sport. I'd be well pissed off if it had been up at the other end and that was awarded against my team. All contact in the box does not necessarily have to be a penalty.
  24. I don't know what the fuss it about on the McKenzie one. Even with the red tinted specs on that was never worthy of a penalty in my opinion, the guy just used his strength to ease McKenzie out of the way. It was actually very good defending.
