  1. I can imagine the events right now in the January window. We go for Paterson. Luggy says "who is this lad Paterson? Who does he play for? Ah who cares. Sign him up now before that bastard at Aberdeen does!"

Luggy's assistant says "err, he's already on our books, Mr Sturrock"

"He is?" remarks a surprised Luggy.

Do you write sitcoms in New Zealand Reekster?

  2. Nah min. That was me that said that. Paulinho was simply taking what I said into context for his argument's sake - hence the italics in Paulinho's post.

I was of the belief (like most of my arguments, I'm sure I read somewhere) that Hibs and St Mirren were the only debt-free clubs in the SPL.

I am pretty sure St Johnstone are debt free Reeky. If Hibs managed to plug a £3million gap in the last year and a half they may be debt free. I can't find any evidence to suggest they are debt free. They recently put a halt to a plan to rebuild one of their stands as it would have put them back in to heavy debt.

  3. I thought she was brilliant. I don't know what the people involved were told before the exercise but they certainly were not being open minded about it. Good on her for having the dogged determination for so many years to continue to try and get through to so many people in the face of adversity.

  4. Likewise, I enjoyed the 2nd half. Proper LOL moment when Mcmanus lost the heid and chopped down Driver, you can't beat seeing the OF in the huff.

That and Samaras poised to wheel away in celebration.

  5. @Sharpie - I do hope they'll even out but the revenue streams will always be slightly higher at the Old Firm so they'll have the advantage.  To compete with that Aberdeen would need to keep the spine of the club intact for a few years, constant chopping and changing personnel doesn't work.

The revenue streams of the Old Firm would have been higher during the Fergie era as well. We were lucky Dick Donald took a punt on Ferguson.

  6. @leith_red - I agree our future as a club is bringing through our own youth and selling them to richer clubs, my only issue with that is the fact we'll never really progress as we'll constantly have the spine of our team ripped out.

Letting players go has killed us in recent years.

Hibs may be a good example with regards bringing through talent, selling them for large sums and moving on, but it hasn't really helped them kick on as a club.  They've stagnated and regularly finish 5th/6th.

But that will happen to Celtic and Rangers more often now as well given their own investment problems? Things will even out more?

  7. As a lifelong Aberdeen fan......could you plough millions into another club down the road and into a club which have strong hun tendencies?

    I couldn't and wouldn't.

It just makes me wonder how true some of the media reports are that Calum Melville has been a lifetime dons fan....

I couldn't care if he's a Dons fan or not. What I do know is that he has behaved like a complete fanny this week.

  8. @manc_don - Aberdeen will be okay though, they don't need television money to strengthen.

They certainly shouldn't rely on it. Youth is the way forward for most teams in Scotland. Think back to times before over cooked TV money. Time to forget about England, we will never compete with England again for players. Certainly not without some sort of revolution.
