Good to hear JG saying today he’s trying to get 3-4 more quality players in, think that’s what many of us are crying out for. Any chatter/gossip as to who we are talking to at the moment?? He made the comment in the interview about talking to players under contract, fair to say that’s possibly at least Ronan there?

Looks like it finished 7-1. Yes, it’s preseason and brechin, but good to score 7! Anyone there? Curious to know if vinnie played centrally and if that’s his more natural or most effective spot. Not a kennedy fan but another goal, how’s he looking? Not sure how anyone else sees it, but I wonder if playing in the league cup instead of Europe will give us a quicker and more realistic sense of where we are as a team. Hard to tell the level of opposition in Europe so while we have looked good in the early rounds of Europe that doesn’t always tell us how good we are. We see a championship, league one and league two team, expect decent wins and not only a few goals but clean sheets too.
-
It appears to have been a decent window so far but I think it’s essential we get two creative players minimum, one central 10 and a wide player. More ideally as we’ll get injuries. We’ve missed that losing the likes of Wright, hedges, Christie, Maddison, mcginn aging out, even hayes getting older. I’d also throw the passing and attacking ability of McLean. I don’t see us going anywhere without creativity so while it seems to have been a good window so far it’s a definite failure if we fail to add creativity.
-
Totally agree. But doesn’t it always seem to be this way? With such a limited budget these are always frustrating times. Any really good player has signing options and given we’ve just come off a shitty season, no Europe, and a relatively unknown/unproven manager, maybe even a little harder this summer? The visa situation is a little different but it just adds to the concern/frustration.
-
I’d argue (I hope) that we are trying to bring in more, particularly on the creative side, but with the level and type of player we are targeting they have options and it takes time (unfortunately.) Take McGrath and Ronan for example, I’m sure they both have a number of clubs interested.
-
We’re incredibly weak on the wing, must be improved for us to have any chance of success. We were at our best in recent years when we had two of the best wingers in the league in hayes and mcginn, not sure we have one that would be a guaranteed starter for any team in the league. I guess Vinny is our strongest and I’m not even sure he’s any good. Hayes does a job but not the player he was. I’d also like to see us punt mclennan and kennedy, they give us very little. Time to give a youngster time over them.
-
Easy there. Been excited before only for it all to go to shit. Gleason and Forrester got me excited! Defenders were needed, as was a center forward, but the creativity is the hard part. I rate Ramirez highly but with minimal service it all goes to shit. Two wingers and a number ten needed asap!

Football is a different world now. In my opinion we do our best to get the best players any way we can, buy or loan, to give us the best chance of success. We can’t afford high end players. Loaning Scales helps us short term. In this financial climate one year signings are the norm for us, that’s the reality of it. Loaning players we can’t afford to buy isn’t wrong, we have to accept the reality of the situation. I don’t give two fucks if loaning Christie Maddison or Scales helps the player or feeder club, they help us short term, hopefully to do well in the league and cups, bringing in money, that helps us afford better players. Would I rather loan Scales or see considine extended for one more year for example, easy answer from me. We do what we think makes us better on the pitch.
-
Perhaps a back 3 is the plan? That’s 4 defenders, Gallagher Bates Stewart and Scales, one on the bench?? I hope we get some creativity ASAP…
-
Liam Scales loan with option to buy from Celtic, similar to the mccrorie deal perhaps. Left sides defender. Anyone got the scoop??
-
I see Leeds and Burnley threatening Everton with legal action regarding their finances. Anyone well educated in this kind of stuff? Could Scottish teams go in this direction with rangers?
-
Was it fighting or mating???
-
Finally. A result that makes me happy!!!! Been a while in getting that. Today is a good day!
-
I think it’s interesting so much emphasis is placed on a central defender who can play on the right but not on the left. Is it really that hard for a pro player?? Sad if so. Anyway, as has been mentioned before, bates and Gallagher in a back 3 is probably their strength, and if/when we lose Ramsay maybe a strong investment in the left sided central defender to be the third part of the three? in regards to my shit ahead of them, I think that’s a fair assessment. Who in midfield and forward this year should start next year?? Based on what I’ve seen, Barron is the only one is want assuming Ferguson is away, Ramirez plays too if he returns. The rest, including Vinny, are bang average at best. I just hope Vinny kicks on cos he is young to be fair. Even hayes is on the decline. We have a very large rebuild ahead. Goodwin has a close to impossible job ahead of him given he won’t last the season if he doesn’t get it right.
-
Defense looks shit when you have shit ahead of you causing all sorts of problems. I don’t think bates and Gallagher are that bad, they just have zero confidence and shit ahead of them. They’ve made mistakes but I blame the whole team for that. A better team and we’ll see better from both in my opinion. Same to an extent of Lewis, if the team ahead of you is piss there’s more pressure on you, mistakes happen and confidence dips.

Curious to hear peoples thoughts on the ‘new’ manager now that he’s been with us a few months and the season is over. I took criticism for questioning his appointment and for judging him in recent months but I still see very little to suggest he is the right man for the job. While I understand players chucked it and are leaving, that happens every season with players who get released. The last few weeks have been absolutely awful. I still haven’t see anything to suggest he’s an improvement on Glass. Summer will certainly be interesting. Our team is screaming for creativity but I don’t sense goodwin is that type, I suspect (just a hunch) goodwin will prioritize work rate, graft, mental and physical toughness, and fitness. I said pre appointment we needed someone who had experience/contacts in the transfer market, just don’t know what goodwin brings here. Mcinnes did well selling the club and getting players to join us (and no, I don’t want DM back!), no clue what goodwin can do here. roll on summer, hope it’s a successful window!!
-
Think you are forgetting he hasn’t been player of the year for the dons yet…
-
In regards to Ferguson, I see his situation similar to Ryan jack. We won’t fully appreciate him until he’s gone, and he will move on to bigger better things. Would like to see him go the McKenna route, do well in the championship then an EPL move, which is what I expect from McKenna this summer if forest aren’t promoted.
-
Ojo Montgomery and Ruth start??? Why? Thought line up was based on players who will be here next year. Makes me even wonder if we have an option to buy Montgomery? Id rather see one or two of the young kids, even as shit as kennedy and mclennan are, I’d rather see them if they’ll be here next year.
-
I’m assuming it’s Barron plus two new center mids (replacing brown, Ferguson, ojo, mcgeough), and polvara off the bench. I also think dean Campbell has another year left on his contract. Not writing him polvara yet, he’s a young guy but has to be given a chance.
-
I actually wonder if right back may end up being his best position for us. He’s got the desire and engine to get up and down and is more of a defender that midfielder. He also lacks that bit of flair / creativity that mids need but right backs don’t need. Assuming we sell Ferguson, we have Barron and polvara in center mid, plus hopefully creative center mid or two signed. (Is dean Campbell back??) gallagher and bates plus a new center defender signed. Right back may be his best option??
-
If I was Ramsay I would certainly hope not. Getting the chance to train and possibly play with Alex Arnold, Salah, mane, and Diaz, or a modern day Ilfi, tansey, and Curtis main??? You choose!
-
Had a nice couple of touches but didn’t see much. But I stand by the three players in two positions not helping any of them play today. I’m more meaning my first impression is he’s a Ferguson type of player and a potential replacement for him rather than a flair Ryan Christie type player, Kenny McLean type passer etc….
-
Probably unfair to really judge given we are so limited in options, but the central three in midfield isn’t great balance. I’d almost say Dante could be fergusons replacement? Looks like three center mids who all are too similar, and I’d even suggest getting in each other’s way. Three guys in the space for two. Doesn’t help them play their own natural game.
-
We have center backs on the books. Not disagreeing we need another but we have internationalists who are off form on a shit team. we have no flair and creativity. We can’t create. Fix that and we’re a totally different team, which will take the pressure off the defense.
