1962: Having drawn 2-2 at Clyde four days earlier, Aberdeen destroy their Rutherglen opponents by a whopping 10 goals to three at Pittodrie. Bobby Cummings gets five in what is one of Aberdeen's highest ever scorelines.

On this day in 1992, Aberdeen recorded their biggest-ever away win when they thrashed Partick Thistle 7-0 at Firhill. The scoreline was equalled on 31st March 2017 at Dens Park.

The game had been rescheduled after the original was abandoned. I believe it was the famous incident when a member of the Firhill ground staff tried to clear snow off the pitch with a broken broom.

Indeed it was .

I was at the abandoned game but couldn't make the rearranged one.

Was at both. Always felt that players were pissed off about way Thistle pissed about pretending to try and  clear the pitch and took the frustrations out on them in replay. 
 

Was at 7-0 over Dundee as well.

We finished 7th, on goal difference. St Johnstone were adrift at the bottom, with both Dundee clubs below us on goal difference. 

It was indeed a 3-0 win on the final day, against Hibs, that kept us safe. 

Was it two teams from 10 that were relegated back then?

Yes Dundee relegated along with St Johnstone.

This set me thinking about the season 1979/80 when of course we won the league for the first time in my life time 

Hibs got relegated that season and I am sure that they hardly won a point away from home but I remember them holding us to a one each draw at Pittodrie that could have harmed our title hopes.

Remember it was a Wednesday evening and we were in the paddock and so was a small Hibs support. Verbal were exchanged and at the end as we were going down the steps at full time one of mates was hit on the back of the head by a shoe thrown by one of them. He picked it up shouted run and once on to Merkland Road proceeded to launch it into the old timber merchant yard.

Still have a laugh at the thought of some guy travelling home that night with only one shoe 😉

 

On this day 30 years ago, Stephen Glass won a bicycle. More importantly, the Dons won the Coca Cola Cup after beating Dundee 2-0.

Cousin from Aberdeen, hand me down 89/90 top on one of the many trips up to the relatives in Ross-shire. Probably didn’t start properly until I was 15 or so though. Internet changed a lot although always had a Shearer and Jess Shoot poster on the wall 😎

Twenty one years ago yesterday we lost our little Moroccan magician.

How apt that on that anniversary the World Cup draw pairs us with Morocco.

Super player. Not saying better or worse, much like James McFadden, type of player Scotland (and Aberdeen) are badly missing at present. For Scotland maybe doak will have that type of presence but an absolute joy to watch. Expected adil to be the Jess type.

My very favourite player of all time.  When he played the masters last year I genuinely welled up a bit seeing him score for the dons one last time. 

True legend.

I was just the right age for getting into football as Jess was breaking through. What a player.

On this day (2 days ago, but naebody’s counting) in 1970, having completed the purchase of around 50% of the Rubber Shop’s Subbuteo stock, I was dragged into the nae-long-opened Norco House on George Street, much to my disgust, and was raking through the LP racks to see if I could afford Free’s Fire and Water, when the in-store tannoy announced that the Dons had beaten Celtic at Parkhead to put us top of the Proper Mannies’ First Division (a Joe Harper heider, although the Co-opy mannie omitted this detail). 
 

There then ensued the thrill of a title race that we fucked up by only drawing at Pittodrie with the Deidbastards, St Paisley, Motherwell, and Celtic. The destruction of a third of the Main Stand by fire hindered us a bit too. 
 

What a time to be alive. 

Jess was never the same after he broke his leg, and playing in midfield was a mistake.

What caught my eye today was the game on the 2nd January 2003, against the Victims.

This game kicked off our centenary year and we got a credible draw against a good Victim side and from my memory, we played very well that day and should have won.

I remember the game well and still have my match programme and other stuff relating to our centenary year.

A crowd of just over 16k and over 3k, were victim fans.

Credit to the club for at least getting more fans through the turnstiles nowadays, even if the on field product doesn't match fan enthusiasm.
