Daniel Uchechi - Trialist

Daniel Uchechi joins Aberdeen on trial

Uchechi  has played for Nigeria Under-20 level

Former Nigeria Under-20 striker Daniel Uchechi has joined Aberdeen on trial.

The 22-year-old began his career with Charlton Athletic and was also on the books of West Ham but was most recently on loan to Sheffield Wednesday.

He left Upton Park for Dender in his homeland but was farmed out to Leicester City then the Owls.

Aberdeen said in a website statement: "Craig Brown this afternoon confirmed Daniel is at Pittodrie and will train with the club for a couple of days."

Uchechi was originally meant to go on trial with the Scottish Premier League club during the summer but instead turned out in pre-season for Peterborough United before joining Wednesday after a successful trial.

He signed for the League One club until January, but the loan spell was cut short in November after he made only one appearance under Gary Megson.

That was Uchechi's only senior appearance in English football, having played for Charlton's youth and reserve teams before joining West Ham in 2009.

He was released by the then Premier League club a year later and returned to Nigeria National League outfit Dender.

Uchechi had also failed to break into the first-team at Leicester during his loan spell with the Championship outfit last season.

Aberdeen boss Brown already has former Rangers, Leicester, Motherwell and Norwich City midfielder Stephen Hughes on trial.

Are these African boys not a pain to have in the squad, wot with the African internationals?

They'll be here now whilst their leagues are shut down for the tournament and they're not good enough to play (or their team didn't qualify)?

Nigeria did not qualify.

Still no wingers or full backs then?

No chance. This Uchechi looks fast, he'll probably get lumped out on to the wing.

Looks like Mackie and Magennis are offski, which leaves Vernon and Fallon, with Chalali and Megginson as backup. Room for another i'd say.

According to Retard deals been offered to both Uchechi and Hughes. Uchechi is now suddenly a winger as well. As usual both are short term deals.

deal done apparently

If true, this must be the most we've ever signed in a January window surely?

Well Brown did say it would take 3 transfer windows did he not? So I'd assume this or the summer would be the one where he could say he'd have his own team.

Keep them coming!

Dons in move to bring in Nigerian attacker

Aberdeen will today attempt to negotiate a loan deal for attacker Danny Uchechi after finalising the details of Gavin Rae’s 18-month deal and Isaac Osbourne’s one-year contract extension.

The Dons are in discussion with Nigerian club Dender and, despite claims from the African side, believe they can secure the 22-year-old for free.
