Aberdeen v Dundee (League Cup)

Sadly, we go again on Saturday 15th August at 3 pm when Dundee come up the road to have another crack at us, this time on League Cup duty.

If we play as well as we did today, then Dundee will comfortably win 4-0. 😡

Pains me to say it, olusanya involved in both goals!

YAAASSSSSS!!!! 3-0 Nisbet 😄

Nice, really good ball in from Yogane, really nice dummy from Ntelo

Ntelo looked like a competition winner out in the wing in the first half. Looks like a different player through the middle.

Unsung hero award defo goes to Cadden, he's impressed me today

Looking forward to Robbo’s GIRFUY post-match interview.

Comparisons, Ntelo def the new pape gueye, gangly, wide, central, unpredictable, and an eye for goal.

You know that’s an insult, aye? 😂

How you feeling about today’s midfield @RicoS321? Ronan seemed to suit that deeper role.

And to be fair, Guinness walker was much better too, and attacked a bit more.

Much better effort today compared with the first two games. Still a lot of mistakes that we need to cut out but in the right direction. Time will tell if they are good enough to be classed Aberdeen players.

In with a shout for MOTM. He could turn out to be a cracking signing.

Well that was unexpectedly fun in the second half. As panda mentioned earlier we don't have a game for two weeks and not getting through would have been a bit grim. Completely the opposite now.

That’s cheered up my often disappointed Saturday. Decent performance all round. Dundee never really in it. Now for a few league wins, and a few celebration drinks too!

The draw is tomorrow after the holders pump the huns out of the cup.

Ntelo definitely better in the middle. Him and Nisbet could be - as @OrlandoDon alluded to - the new Nisbet and Gueye.

Olusanya and Yogane had better second halves, but would like to see Smith and Armstrong starting. We've three friendlies lined up before the Rangers game (Keith on Tuesday, St Johnstone next weekend, and dunno the third one) so plenty of time to get more minutes in the legs for the fringe players.

Aremu and Ronan good defensively but still think we lack a bit of energy, it asks a lot of Cadden and GW to get up and down more.

But we won, took the goals well, clean sheet, we're one game from Hampden, transfer window is still open.

Yes, it’s good to be going into this mini break with a bit of positivity.

Thought Dundee were the better team, up until Murray went off, our game from that point.

An enjoyable second half and played some decent stuff at times.

Not convinced we are a good team and suspect the huns will be a better test of gauging where we are as a team.

Absolutely fucking shite.

I was playing golf, so missed the game, and I'm only just catching up on the score.

Interesting the 4-2-3-1. Always been the best formation for us. I didn't mention Ronan in my midfielder chat, because I haven't managed to get a good read on whether he could play deeper. Seems that might be the case after today, but I think it might backfire against better teams, in the same way it would if we played Armstrong there. All very positive though.

Well that was much more like it. Significantly better in every aspect of the game.

Not much in it first half, but second we were really good. Everyone played their part.

Keeper good one on one save at a crucial time. Defence pretty solid overall and the full backs contributed much more at the back and going forward.

Obi 2 handled Bevan much better. He was decent today as was Cadden on the other side.

Only concern was we still seem susceptible to the ball over the top and they did seem to get a lot of room wide from diagonal balls, but can’t argue with a clean sheet.

Midfield much more in control, thought Aremu had his best game for us, bossed the middle compared to last week & Ronan adds a bit of composure for sure.

Nisbet linked the play well and can’t argue with 2 goals at any time.

Oh Lasagne is a handful, especially running in behind, but as we all know, can’t play football.

New boy had a quiet first half understandably given he’s just in the door, but some finish and a great step over for the third. Very promising debut.

Yogane was better and contributed more going forward including an assist.

Can we get that level of effort, attitude & commitment every week though please.

Give us that and you’ll not get many complaints, even when we lose…

How about that moment when Cadden was possessed by the spirit of prime Javier Zanetti? Racing back to catch up wi his man, superb sliding tackle wins the ba, directs his team-mate where to go for the counter, and splits the defence with one pass - pity the new loon wisna up to speed to make anything out of it.

I think that’s another good bench performance from Armstrong. I don’t think he’s capable of a strong and dominating performance as a starter, definitely feel we need another central mid, especially since palaversa isn’t in the plans. And I’m not suggesting allan Campbell..
