Aberdeen v Dundee (League Cup)

Sadly, we go again on Saturday 15th August at 3 pm when Dundee come up the road to have another crack at us, this time on League Cup duty.

If we play as well as we did today, then Dundee will comfortably win 4-0. 😡

I think that’s another good bench performance from Armstrong. I don’t think he’s capable of a strong and dominating performance as a starter, definitely feel we need another central mid, especially since palaversa isn’t in the plans. And I’m not suggesting allan Campbell..

I dunno, I think he absolutely could do 90 minutes. Was the issue last season not a "breathing issue" which he has since had surgery for?

As it goes, Rangers will take a lot out of us, and we have Celtic away in the midweek after it, so suspect Armstrong and Smith may have to start one of them (not necessarily together).

Well that was much more like it. Significantly better in every aspect of the game.

Not much in it first half, but second we were really good. Everyone played their part.

Keeper good one on one save at a crucial time. Defence pretty solid overall and the full backs contributed much more at the back and going forward.

Obi 2 handled Bevan much better. He was decent today as was Cadden on the other side.

Only concern was we still seem susceptible to the ball over the top and they did seem to get a lot of room wide from diagonal balls, but can’t argue with a clean sheet.

Midfield much more in control, thought Aremu had his best game for us, bossed the middle compared to last week & Ronan adds a bit of composure for sure.

Nisbet linked the play well and can’t argue with 2 goals at any time.

Oh Lasagne is a handful, especially running in behind, but as we all know, can’t play football.

New boy had a quiet first half understandably given he’s just in the door, but some finish and a great step over for the third. Very promising debut.

Yogane was better and contributed more going forward including an assist.

Can we get that level of effort, attitude & commitment every week though please.

Give us that and you’ll not get many complaints, even when we lose…

Thought we started off worse than last week at Dens, for the first 10 min we barely had a touch. Their tactic to pumping long diagonal balls to either wing, just as the did last Saturday, looked like causing up problems as both GW and Cadden always seemed to tuck inside towards the CBs (we really can't afford to let their wingers have a free go at getting the ball under control as against better sides they'll do that and move it on in one movement).

Aremu does some really excellent things and then fucks up the simple bit - midway through the 2nd half he won the ball, completely bamboozled the Dundee player trying to pressure him and then played the ball straight into touch!

Oh Lasagne...how many of us were off our seats when he broke clear and how many of us actually expected him to score...at least he hit the keeper and didn't give away a shy!

I had to laugh at this moment too - I do think there's a plaar there. Guess we'll find out over the course of the season.

Wonder if we could tempt Hamilton away from Dens.

He did look handy didnt he

Interesting, out all day and evening didn't see any of the game.

Maybe I should take the result as an omen and not watch our games.

Just seen the highlights, cracking goal from Mitchy 👍

Big win for us, as mood would have been seriously down amongst the fans, with no competitive game for a fortnight.

Just watched the highlights. Looked like a comfortable win. Good to see Yogane beating his man and using his weak foot to get a cross into a good area. He did that a few times in the group stages to good effect. He's not particularly quick, but seems to know how to get enough space to get a cross when you think it should be easy for the defender.

Another Olusanya best and worst highlights reel though! Both one-on-ones were engineered by his perseverance, but both lacking the calmness to finish. The second, especially, was just a nothing shot that had absolutely no thought behind it. Similarly, he had a perfect knock down for Cadden which resulted in Nisbet's first, but before Armstrong's shot off the post he had the opportunity for an easy one-two with Mouloua, which he fired into the latter's feet instead of teeing him up for a shot. He's definitely an enigma.

If you could put Nisbets brain in Toy's body you would have a 30 goal a season striker at this level

Surely we could create a new sub forum specially dedicated to part time supporters such as Al and Rico?

I got my weekends mixed up when I agreed to play golf, I thought that this was the Scotland international weekend. Even after realising, I was certain that the establishment would have given us an away tie. The fact that I'm quite terrible at golf only makes it worse.

My mate's wedding is 10 October, and he specifically chose that date because it has always been for years an international football date.

Of course they changed it this season to ruin his wedding, so his two teams of Aberdeen and Newcastle are both playing that day.

The wedding is actually Newcastle themed so I'm currently regretting saying I'd go..

You've missed your vocation in life my friend 😉

good result, that I never really seen coming.
Thought Dundee were the better team up until the Simon Murray injury (hope it is not as bad for him as it looks)

Our second half performance we pretty decent all over the park. Although I am still not convinced with Yogane he just looks as if he lacks any urgency or pace and is very sluggish. Decent ball in the the 3rd goal so credit where credit is due there, but I still think we might be better starting with Smith ahead of him.
Olusanya will just continue to do what he does, he must be a fkn nightmare for defenders as anytime he has the ball they just don't have a clue what the fk he is going to, what makes that all the more entertaining is Olusanya himself also doesn't have a clue what the fk he is going to do either. But whatever the fk it is, it's working so no complaints there.

And that is now 9 goals this season from our captain, leading from the front and leading by example. 💪

It's still early days and still a long way to go. but well done to all on a decent win.
