I'd like to see that one back. At the game it looked like Graham threw himself into Milne as he was about to jump, with no attempt to play the ball. Anyway, it wasn't a beautiful game today by any stretch. Robinson has clearly put the brakes on any attempt to play football, which is completely fine given the circumstances. No short balls from the keeper, very little through midfield and relying on the forwards with the midfield winning second balls. All fine at this stage, although I can't help but think that our last 4-5 managers haven't been given that freedom, with the insistence from within the club that they have to play "entertaining football" (which apparently translates to passing it until we lose possession). A bit of pragmatism was, and is, required. Thought Lobban really struggled today and probably shouldn't have started. A lot of okay performances, with nobody standing out. Lazetic wasn't absolutely terrible, but wasn't great and I'm surprised that Jensen and Olusanya didn't appear at half time. Geiger was okay too, but should have been off a bit earlier, as I don't like to see guys like Nilsen (or Shinnie) getting ten minutes as it often takes them that to get going. Really difficult to say much more than that we were okay. A draw a fair result, and a really good cross and header for their goal, albeit one from which we had plenty of opportunities to close down and deal with. Quote
TheDonbytheDee Posted 19 hours ago Report Posted 19 hours ago (edited) Just back, via The Grill. Walking through Froghall going to Pittodrie and a random strap on dildo was on the pavement, at that point I knew Morrison was playing. Got to my seat and who comes walking up the steps from the pitch, only God himself. That man really is idolised by us lot. On to the game, the curveball I mentioned further back this morning, was Lazetic. Two up front! We tried to keep a shape all game. We stopped the playing out from the back and went more direct, which worked better for us. Mr Robinson, Stuart Armstrong isn't a defensive midfielder under any circumstances. We are struggling for match fit players, which is truly staggering this late into the season and it showed so much. I looked fitter than Palaversa when he came on and I have Angina. Grounds for optimism and I am sure Robinson will get more from us as the games come round. I thought Falkirk were far better than us all over the pitch. It's like night and day comparing us with them and when you consider the were struggling in league one three years ago, it truly is mind blowing. Mitov made some key saves to keep us in it, but our goal was sweet as.... I thought it was our three points and disappointed we couldn't see it out, but no complaints from me. Onwards and upwards. Rico - I can't agree with you on Lobban today. I thought he was decent. I do agree that Geiger should have been off way earlier. He was spent, well before he went off. How did you recognise a strap on dildo...asking for a friend. I too thought Falkirk were better throughout the game...the number of times we pressed them and they always knew what they were going to do with the ball before they got it (obviosly with the one exception) in complete contrast to our defence who invairably take at least 1 touch and then go back to the keeper. 1 Quote

Unlike Molloy he’s got the size, but he lacks aggression & physicality and he’s frankly shite in the air. I do feel for him a bit, as it’s the club that’s tried to turn him into a CH, and while he has the physical attributes he lacks the mental and technical ones. I assume Robinson knows this too and come the summer we’ll see at least 2 new CH’s coming in (assuming Tobers gets fit and Knoester is retained) I’d absolutely love Pollock to be one of them. Everything we need back there that boy… Why would Knoestsr not be retained Is he not on a long term contract. 2029 ? Quote

I thought it was a dog toy at first, but then it clicked. Probably still lying outside the block of flats at Froghall, if your friends needing one. Not sure how many previous owners though. Quote
tlg1903 Posted 14 hours ago Report Posted 14 hours ago I've seen a lot of praise for Geiger today, including from Robinson, but I thought he was fairly average 2bh. Yet to see anything from him that would indicate the pedigree that he has. My feeling is this was a good point for us today given where have found ourselves. We made a Falkirk team that have made plenty chances against better sides than us look fairly impotent and I'm taking that as a very solid starting point for Robinson given our last outing. It's obviously disappointing to concede such a late equaliser and that we didn't really create much but we didn't really look wide open at any point in the game either and that hasn't been the case for a while. Mordor next and this is probably the best time in the Rohl era to be getting them. Bottling two games against the tims at home on the bounce has pissed off the hordes big time. Bottle merchant seems to be the big criticism so perhaps there is hope for this one yet. 1 Quote

Thought I’d mention a couple of others: Lazetic’s work rate cannot be faulted, the lad is also a machine, so I’m still hoping there is a player in there somewhere. And I thought Lobban was one of our better players yesterday. Quote
TheDonbytheDee Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago I thought Geiger was OK yesterday. He works hard, but I think he struggles with the pace of our game, which could come with time. Should have been hooked earlier as he was spent. Quote

All about opinions of course. He’s a good footballer, but IMO he just isnt aggressive, physical or dominant at the back at all. None of our lot are tbf, that’s a big part of our issues. Put it this way, Hearts success this year has been built largely on a rock solid CH pairing of Halkett & Findlay. They are not silky soccer players, but they are everything you want in a CH pairing up here - strong, aggressive, dominant, positionally sound, great in the air. Both would walk into our team ahead of everyone else we have because they have all the attributes you need for this league, our lot just don’t… Quote

I also agree funnily enough with your comment regarding Hearts centre halves but TLG is also correct saying Knoester is our most competent centre half currently Quote

I also agree funnily enough with your comment regarding Hearts centre halves but TLG is also correct saying Knoester is our most competent centre half currently Hearts center back paring isn’t the only solution though, it does not have to be two bruisers. I’d prefer we had that with Frame and lobban on the outside, but it could be knoester and a Matty pollock for example. It’s hard to find one central defender, never mind two. I’d compare knoester to Liam scales, not a brute but technical and competent. I feel knoester is being unfairly criticized because of the shit around him, he’s not had a stable central defender or left back, or holding mid ahead of him. Quote
The.Moog Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago (edited) That Hearts team has the number one attribute you need in any good side - a strong spine. Solid reliable keeper (2 actually) Solid reliable CH’s (4 actually - all 4 would walk into our team) Solid Centre mid (Devlin is great in this league, Baningame complements him well) Good focal point up front in Shankland (Nisbet could potentially do it with the right players around him). It allows their full backs, wide and flair players to do their thing and by fuck its worked this year. Its the first thing Robinson needs to address, but I’m sure he doesn’t need me to tell him that… Edited 1 hour ago by The.Moog Quote
