BigAl Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago So moving on and opening this up a bit from the Crazy American Politics thread, I thought we should have a separate thread about this. It feels as if the world has been on fire since the Russian invasion of Ukraine coming up on four years ago. Iran is now teetering on the brink, Trump is talking about then, he has already sanctioned going into Venezula and snatching their leader and taking Greenland next is up next on his agenda. As some one alive during the Cuban missile crisis, I have to think are we facing as big a threat now as we have during my life time ? Quote

Naziyahu seems to get away with absolutely everything. So heāll probably dodge death somehow too.Ā Quote
TheDonbytheDee Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago Best thing to do is switch off from it all. Absolutely nothing any of us can do to change it. If the World ends by the 25th of May, 2026, Aberdeen will still be the Scottish Cup holders. Every situation has its upside. Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Quote

Heās been completely sidelined from any decision making. Heās basically unemployed at the moment.Ā I think the plan is that once he gets the job, being popular with the electorate wonāt really be an issueĀ Edited 2 hours ago by Mason89 Quote
Mason89 Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago You know what I find a bit odd? Nobody seems to give a fuck about the hunger strikers.Ā I mean, whether you agree with them or not (you fucking should, whatās wrong with you!?) these are peaceful protesters getting absolutely shafted by the government.Ā Ā I wouldāve thought people might care a bit more about thatĀ 1 Quote
RicoS321 Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago As terrible as the world is, I don't think that there's any need for bold letters in the opening post.Ā Anyway, it's just the beginning of civilisational collapse. It'll a decade or three to get into its stride, it's fine.Ā When all the hard to reach resources have been used up, which they largely have, and when population begins to drop, then this is the result - always. Venezuela is as much about the US having oil as it is China not having it. They're not making roads without Venezuelan oil, that's for sure (or at least not very good ones). You can have all the solar panels in the world, but diesel builds infrastructure.Ā We're basically entering a period where our children and their children will have less energy at their disposal (especially with the negligent AI waste). Our economic system can't handle degrowth. The mental cases in charge have spent fifty years shouting GDP, growth, "what about the economy" and "he/she is economically illiterate" at anyone who tried to point out the anti-thermodynamic cult that they had created. They'll die clinging to those religious economic beliefs. Quote
Don Julio Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Resources dry up. Life becomes shit. People rebel.Ā Ā Time to go back and read The Handmaidās Tale. Or the history of Teotihuacan. Or Aberdeen post mid-90s. Or whatever. Rico clearly knows more about this than the rest of us so looking forward to reading more (thatās not sarcasm by the way). Ā Quote
