The Worth A Look Thread

I get the impression that Calderwood needs some help identifying good players who could actually improve the team, so lets compile a list of available quality players for no-one to pay any attention to.

No. 1 - Marcel Seip

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...yle/7335091.stm

I've been looking on Plymouth forums fairly regularly to see how Anderson is getting on and just about everyone thinks this guy is the best thing since sliced bread, and rate him higher than Anderson.

Still got another year on his contract but has fallen out with Sturrock so might be able to get him for a small fee.

Marcel Seip (born 4 May 1982 in the Netherlands) is a Dutch footballer who plays as a defender for Plymouth Argyle.

Known as a tough-tackling player - who can play at right-back, but prefers to play at centre-back - Seip made his debut for BV Veendam in 1999 and enjoyed a two-year spell with the club before being signed by established Eredivise club SC Heerenveen in 2001. He really made his break-through in the first team at the start of the 2003/04 season, appearing for the club regularly in domestic and European competition for the next three-years, scoring two goals in the process. His contract expired during the summer of 2006 and after showing interest, Seip joined Plymouth Argyle initially on a three-month contract.

Marcel made his debut for Argyle on September 16, 2006 as a first half substitute at St. Mary's Stadium against Southampton . His first goal coincided with his first start at home against Norwich City on September 23, 2006. Seip's impressive displays made him an ever present in the starting line-up - making 42 league and cup appearances, scoring two goals - and he agreed a three-year contract with the club, extending his stay with Argyle until at least the summer of 2009. On the 5th of April 2008, Marcel was told he would be included in the Plymouth squad against Charlton Athletic as a substitute but, after 4 successive starts he refused resulting in Sturrock adding him to the transfer list.

Have cut a' the shit oot of the article about Ayr releasing players this weeks Ayrshire Post.

Looks like the boy Stevenston is setting his sights high ::)

Meanwhile, Ryan Stevenson, who scooped three player of the year awards, is playing a waiting game as transfer speculation mounts.

Stevo, who is under contract for another two years, has been linked with old club St Johnstone and Hartlepool United.

He said: “Full-time football in England appeals to me and my agent has told me Hartlepool have been watching me.â€

Chairman Lachlan Cameron stressed there had been no contact from other clubs but vowed that Stevo wouldn’t be sold cheaply.

He said: “Exciting players attract attention and I know that Ryan wants to play at the highest level but there has been no direct interest.â€

The fucking Chimp Chokers!!

Well, set the bar high boyo! ;D

The fucking Chimp Chokers!!

Never heard St Johnstone called that before.  :o

Chimp Chokers???? Who wants to choke poor Chimp? What's he done wrong? :(

He's a SPY I tells thee! And a French one at that.

See Darren Currie is leaving Luton on a free??

RE: Chimp Chokers

Hartlepool is famous for allegedly executing a monkey during the Napoleonic Wars. - see The Hartlepool monkey hanging - for more information.

Historians have also pointed to the prior existence of a Scottish folk song called "And the Boddamers hung the Monkey-O". It describes how a monkey survived a shipwreck off the village of Boddam near Peterhead in Aberdeenshire. Because the villagers could only claim salvage rights if there were no survivors from the wreck, they allegedly hanged the monkey.

"Monkey hanger" and Chimp Choker are common terms of (semi-friendly) abuse aimed at "Poolies", often from bitter footballing rivals Darlington.

Remind me to avoid Hartlepool. :o

James Troisi

Not being offered a new contract by the Toon.  Might not be good enough for them but would be quality signing for the Dandies.  Would add a bit of bulk to our midfield?

Never heard of him.  Seems a bit like Kevin Kyle was when he had 8 Scotland caps but just 2 first team starts for his club!!

A striker who doesn't score and gets played at left midfield...

Sounds familiar ;).

I see Gary Breen's been released by Wolves. Don't know exactly which degree of ancient he is but he might be the experienced defender we need beside Zander.

I seem to recall Sunderland fans, during their very bad season in the Premiership tearing their hair out at him, despairing at how poor he was.

Past it IMO, just another Jackie Mac.

Think he's signed for someone like Coventry already though, so we're safe enough. Of course, it could have been that an item about Coventry was on SSN when i saw the banner bar saying Breen had been released, and i thought "fuck me, he's still playing?!", and then associated him with Coventry.

We need a left back - Ian Harte has been released. How old is he? Maybe seriously daydreaming that he'd come here but I remember him being a fair player.

I think we've needed a left back for about 15 years.

No point us worrying about that now.

Another who was pretty guff for the Makems.

But unfortunately it's players of this sort we're probably going to have to take a punt on.

Gavin Williams has been told he is free to leave Ipswich.

I remember seeing him years ago playing for Hereford in the FA Cup and tore his marker to shreds down the wing. Seen him play a few times since then and always looked a menace with the ball at his feet. From reading the link above, he seems to be a bit of a nutcase too.

Lock him up, he's nuts

IF he was to make the trek up to Scotland I reckon it'd only be to the tims.

I know we've probably got a replacement for this position, but Yuri Cornelisse who plays for ADO is some player. Some of his passing is awesome. Though it said he's an attacker, seemed to play more of a play maker role.

EDIT: for some reason the link won't work, but if you copy and paste it all it does

Worth a look?

Wathced the league two play off final between Stockport and Yeovil Town after the fa cup yesterday. The striker who scored the winner for Stockport,Liam Dickenson, looked quite decent, tall lad with really good feet - showed in his goal. If they dont win the final may be worth a wee look at buying

Stockport have had fairly decent strikers for the past two seasons. I think we should put in a cheeky wee bid for him. Is Jermain Easter still there?

Easter plays for Wycombe innit?
