Competition for places is what we need next season. Consolidation and improvement and strength in depth. I'd love to keep Logan but pretty certain we're losing him. Robson and Brown off. I'd allow Shankland, Smith and Pawlett to find new clubs. I'd listen to offers for Flood, Jack & Reynolds but wouldn't be overly concerned if they stayed. I'd try to retain Church or else consider a move for Billy McKay, but I wouldn't pay a fee for him. I'd be looking for a talented wide player in the Niall McGinn mould, to light a fire under, Niall McGinn. I'd also make an ambitious bid to sign John McGinn and play him alongside either Kenny McLean or Ryan Jack in the middle. A solid central defender is a must as we need to reinforce our backbone GK-CB-CM. I like Jordan McGhee at Hearts but don't imagine they'd sell. The problem is that in order to do this we could be talking about a significant spend. Would the board sanction the readies needed to turn Hibs' heads for McGinn? This is good man-management by Klopp. Mignolet is in negative equity in terms of his blunders at Liverpool and by bigging up Ward in this way Klopp's laying down the gauntlet to Mignolet to prove to him he's got the bottle to hold off Ward's challenge. Ward will usurp Mignolet as Liverpool #1 within the next 18 months and go on to win 50+ caps for Wales in my opinion. He made mistakes for us that he managed to get away with, some of which down to lack of experience (poor positioning at free-kick v Caley away) and I tend to agree he's probably been our best keeper "this century", but let's not quibble here - that's not saying much is it? At the very least he was a safe pair of hands and showed what a confident man between the sticks can do for the back four as a unit when compared with the various predecessors. At best he was probably the second best keeper in the Premier League (no shame if Craig Gordon's the no1) and showed big maturity for such a young keeper. I hope he goes on to have a marvellous career and recognises it was his time with us that set it all up for him.

I'd heard we were in advanced talks with another keeper to be our first choice next season. I wonder if either that has fallen through, or if it's been agreed therefore being able to know the remaining GK budget to offer to Rogers... I don't know who the other keeper was but I've reason to believe it to be true. I had an inkling it might've been Cammy Bell...

Community sports hubs have been in progress for a couple of years now and some of the facilities in the up and coming developments are quite impressive. I've been working on one very recently. Where to start... Landmark Hotel on Sukhumvit Road is where we stayed (honeymoon). Use the skytrain to get about - they're air-conditioned which is great respite. The river taxis are also great fun, just don't put any part of your anatomy in the water. If you must take a taxi, make sure it is one with the "taxi-meter" sign on it. You absolutely must spend an entire day in Khao San Road. Use the tuk-tuks with the white license plates and not the blue ones. Golden Palace is definitely worth a look. Patpong night market although seedy is also good. Muay Thai - don't worry if you can't get tickets in Bangkok as they'll have events in Phuket as well. Go to a restaurant called Cabbages and Condoms. It's affiliated to a sexual health clinic. Despite the name, it is a really good restaurant in a really good setting - a roof terrace with lots of greenery, like an oasis in the city. The people are wonderful and mostly genuinely helpful. You will get the odd bad egg but just keep your wits about you and all valuables out of sight. You will genuinely go into some bars at night (especially in Patpong) and see western men openly cavorting with boys and girls of questionable age. It is a seedy city especially at night but if you accept this and have the right attitude about it you'll be fine. For the bridge over Kwai/death railway trip, it's almost an all-day thing plus you are strongly advised to take malaria medication. We didn't think it would be worth it. Best thing I'd advise is not to be sucked in too much by the excursions put on by your tour operator. You'll pay western prices for things that need only cost a pittance, and the deal is that when you get to the destination you are then expected to buy a heap of shit that you don't want or need. We went to a diamond factory or something and it was a complete and utter waste of an afternoon and money. All in all, Thailand is a great place, you wont regret going.

He's now 4th or 5th in the pecking order of our strikers (Zola and Magennis seemingly both in front of him) and with Cammy Smith, Declan McManus and Lawrence Shankland all up and coming, Vernon needs either a run of games in the team to re-establish himself, or be moved out of the way to let the young boys through. It is always disappointing when a player feels he can retire from international football, even Kenny Miller. Understandable to an extent given he's playing half-way round the world but all the same if he is the best option we have, he should always remain available. Over the past 12-18 months, with very little success, I've picked up the clubs again. Aged 33, with a mild bout of tendinitis & the legs not up to the rigours of 90 minutes any more, I figured the time is right to try and sort my golf game out. Now I have never joined a club and therefore have never played medals or acquired a handicap but rest assured I'm still at the "chuffed to break 100" level. I'm OK in and about the greens but it's my driving and long irons that let me down. That said, I hit the ball better than ever last week (Oldmeldrum) and yet my short game was uncharacteristically dreadful, three and four putting all over the place, over-hitting chip shots. The great expense of equipment and memberships have always put me off taking it really seriously. I have a semi decent set of second hand irons but will be looking to upgrade next year, as well as possibly taking a membership somewhere forgiving like Longside. Is it possible to get a driver (currently have a TM R7 which is a bit sclaffed) and a set of irons for combined less than £250 that will improve my game?

I'm more and more coming around to the belief that the whole "Arab Spring" is in reality a shroud to supplant Al-Qaeda puppets into power in moderate countries. The west I believe has become susceptible to brainwashing in the battle of good vs evil in Syria. I reckon Western governemnts have got it terribly wrong there and are trying to manage the embarrassment of backing the Al Qaeda supported rebels.

Russell's legs are gone and I suspect he'll drop down the pecking order with a fully-fit Considine, Reynolds and Hector all available. He was probably just as culpable for the penalty as Langfield was but it does appear that Scottish referees are too "by the book" these days to make their own minds up on decisions. It wasn't a foregone conclusion that Samaras was denied a clear goalscoring opportunity and a yellow would've sufficed. Jack and Flood full of running in the middle of the park which is so refreshing to see and Hayes certainly seemed to be getting stuck in as well. Reynolds had actually done really well to keep pace with Forrest and get a block in, just one of those absolute flukes. Weaver had absolutely no chance with it. That being said, I don't rate him (Weaver) at all, and never have done. He's a stop-gap second choice until we free up Langfield's (and his) wage at the end of the season. The Dunfermline situation is the catalyst for it as far as first division clubs are concerned. They know that if Dunfermline, one of the bigger yo-yo teams as I like to call them, can go bust, they all can. The second division teams are roughly split on it - those who will traditionally go up and down between the divisions (QoS, Alloa, Brechin, Airdrie) would likely prefer the change. The third division teams are pretty much "meh" about it all. Nothing at all in this for them unless the 2nd and 3rd Divisions merge into an 18 team conference, with promotion and relegation to a Highland and recently mooted Lowland league.

I think there are better midfielders than him available, whop are younger and whose value and ability may yet increase. Vigurs at Ross County has had a brilliant season, is out of contract and is maybe worth a punt. A local lad too to boot.
