As a club, why do the dons make a cunt of everything we try to do? Hibs needed a new manager, decided who they wanted, and got him signed with minimal fuss and without weeks of speculation in the media. Boyle could turn round now and refuse to talk to us ffs sake. BB, afc matters more to me than Jimmy Calderwood ever did. I think it was the wrong decision, but McGhee will get the full backing of the supporters - I'm sure of that. I'm not writing him off, he was my hero when I was 9, and I hope he can become just as much of a talisman as manager.

I'll be 100% behind MM when he gets the job, I just cant understand the unjustified hero-worship of the man when he's proved nothing in management. I've already stated in another thread that no manager in his right mind would choose us over Celtic. I'm not going to defend Jimmy's cup record, we've had atrocious results, but westenddon is assuming McGhee will do better while I see no evidence to support that. His cup record is possibly excusable because his team had the distraction of a mid season relegation battle to contend with.

In 2007/08 Scottish cup, Motherwell lost to 9 man Dundee in the 5th round. In 2008/09 Scottish cup, Motherwell saw off Inverurie Locos before losing to St Mirren in the 5th round. Inspirational stuff.

Most donstalkers who are struggling to see the logic in binning Jimmy are in their 30's at least. Put BigAl in the mix and the average age goes through the roof. The JMG ers were stoney and Niall, average age about 19. Less said about mental age the better.

Think realist is more appropriate than defeatest. Maybe Ajja and several other users here (myself included) are looking for stability for afc, with anything extra (the euro run for example) being seen as a bonus. We should admire the youthful enthusiasm and ambition that all the young guns who wanted rid of Jimmy are displaying, but we've seen the club go from great, to terrible, to something resembling 'happy days' again. As you'll find out (hopefully not, but probably in the not too distant future) mediocrity beats humiliation every time. Our club was the ultimate laughing stock 6 years ago. That was unbelievably hurtful for any dons fan who grew up in the 80's. Don't under-estimate 'avoiding utter humiliation'.

westenddon, a few questions to get back on topic... 1. Out of the candidates touted for the afc job, was Mark McGhee your first choice? 2. What would be an acceptable league position come May next year? 3. At what round would being knocked out of the cup not be a 'disgrace'? 4. How would you feel if McGhee brought players of the calibre of Bob Malcolm to our club?
