There is absolutely no way that team would have put 5 past us if Mair and Severin had been playing instead of Duff and Young. That's out of Mark McGhee's control though, and the only thing that pissed me off about MM was his inability to change things as the game slipped away. We were getting torn apart, but he made no effort to shore up the defence.

That's good. The lure of European football should make it easy to attract the calibre of players required.

We needed somebody who knew what the fuck they were supposed to be doing at the back. Somebody to help Duff and/or Young through the game. We didn't have that tonight.

I just feel you can get away with playing an average player out of position, if you have somebody experienced enough to help them through the game. We had lots of blank stares and shrugging shoulders at the back tonight.

To be fair to Considine, nobody as young/inexperienced/shite as him should be forced to be the "anchor" of a defence containing Foster, Duff and Young.

In my opinion McGhee could have changed our tactics as early as 10 minutes in, but he opted to leave us as we were. Young and Duff looked hopelessly exposed, through-balls going over their heads because their positional sense was so bad. But neither are defenders. I sympathise with MM because the squad is so small, but please dont say he could do nothing about it. It was a massive gamble playing them there. He possibly underestimated the opposition and assumed we'd get away with it, but he was wrong. In my opinion we wouldn't have lost that game with Scott Severin on the park. Simple as that. Until he is replaced with a quality centre back with proper leadership/organisational skills we are going to be fucked.

Their Dad hasn't enjoyed the Merkland stand since he was 12. But you're right, they are under 12.

Not really Al. Haven't felt this lethargic about a new campaign for years.

Match day - and I can honestly say at this moment in time I have no enthusiasm for tonights game. The kids want to go but quite frankly I can't be arsed. Feel terrible for saying that, I hope as the day goes on I become more interested in this important fixture. But right now I'm about as excited about this game as I am about all our new signings. Can i have some positive vibes please gents, help get me up for this one.

We'll pump the tims in some style in a couple of weeks, three points against them will get us off to a flyer.
