Surely the idea of pre-season tournaments isn't to actually WIN the tournament, but to give the teams participating a chance to play around with tactics and formations. As I said a couple of days ago, I dinnae care if we lost every single game in this tournament. I just hope that these games have given JC and JN enough preparation to be ready for Dundee United.

Didnae think players who get suspensions in one competition have to worry about those cautions carrying over to another competition!! Hence, someone can get a red card in the SPL, but play the very next week in the Scottish Cup. These cautions dinnae count against us in the SPL ... unless Clark's suspension is being carried on from the end of last season.
-
suspended? How many cards has he received in the competition so far??

Notice Miller's been dropped like a hot potato following his yellow card against Al-Aluminum

When was that incident? One of my old mates from Edinburgh (now working at Fingers Piano Bar, where Ebbe can be seen playing the piano) was the barman who invited Russell Latapy and Dwight Yorke into his pub for a lock-in, which infamously resulted in the pair's drink-driving incident about five or six years ago. -
To be honest, I'm not too fussed about these results. Yeah, it'd be nice to win. But if it means sacrificing matches in what is supposed to be our pre-season training to allow JC to tinker with formations, personnel and tactics, then so long as he gets it right when it counts (ie against Dundee Utd) then I'll be happy. Sure it'd be nice to win against these Egyptian teams. But let's remember, they're friendlies that JC is using to tinker.

Al Aluminium 3 Hamada (37, 78), Walid (81) Aberdeen 2 Brewster (47), Foster (66)

Furry boots ye reading this, min? Nothin on the second goal on the AFC website, and nothing on the official tournament website either.
-
1-1 so far. Brewster has levelled after Hamada put them in-front

RICO, RICO! Oh for someone with his grit and determination in midfield in our current team!!!
-
Yeah, he looked promising when we first signed him, and indeed in his early games he looked very handy! He's powerfully built!!! I just question his lack of motivation. As Kelt suggests, I dunno if this is his fault or the fault of our reserve/youth team coaching system. Good luck to Chesterfield. I think you may have a good squad player on yer hands. Just be very careful how you train him, as we didnae get thruppence haepenny out of him.

If I were in the UK, I'd grab this deal with both hands! Awesome deal!!! I'd just put a parental lock on Celtic TV and Rangers TV, and "accidentally" forget the lock code. -
JC least likely to get the bullet in SPL

Smith did an extraordinary job of turning the season around after the almighty calamity that was Paul Le Guen. We were quite comfortably sitting in second place when Smith came onboard. By the end of the season, we were quite some way behind the huns in the league. I dinnae reckon Smith will be chucked for a good number of years yet. He is one of Rangers' most successful managers ever, and he only left the first time around to try his hand in the Premiership. He failed miserably with Everton, so he's now back with the huns. Dinnae reckon Murray will be too happy about finding yet another replacement next term. Smith will be given at least three years in-charge, especially since he's blooding in the biggest Scottish contingent Ibrox has seen since Souness was boss. -

I heard they were keen on doing the egg'n'spoon race too, but rumour has it that Stevie Fulton had come across to Germany to help out with the pre-season training, and there was the danger that he would eat all the eggs before they had the chance to use them -

I see that chappy Pushapushpop is in the papers saying that just about the entire Hearts team are hating their current pre-season training in Austria/Germany. They've spent all their preseason doing fitness work, and none of it doing any football-related work. As such, they've been royally shagged by two part-time teams in Austria!! Oh this is comedy that not even the late great Ronnie Barker could make up. -
It's nice to hear that the club's new merchandise is available well before the beginning of the season these days. Mind the shambles that was about five or six years ago when you had to wait until October before getting the new home top.

Looks like a bit of a stoner, tbh. I always thought he was a twinny: Split at birth Ricky Gillies and former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted
-
Oh my God. Gillies couldnae make it in New Zealand???!!! Says it all really!!! My wife's old school pal is dating a guy from Brazil. He's never played professional football in his life, and indeed he'd rather surf than play football. But he's getting a game for Hawkes Bay United just now, the team that Ricky Gillies failed to make an impact at. If he can't make it at a mid-table club in New Zealand, he's got no hope anywhere!!!! Wake up and smell the coffee Gillies, you once were thought to be quite good at football. But in actual fact you'd probably be best looking at a joinery apprenticeship instead.

Close-season is always quiet for footy discussion forums. And we've not advertised that DT is actually up and running again yet as we're not finished tweaking it and building sections of the site. I reckon Hart will sign a new contract with us as it's a chance for him to show his leadership qualities by taking control of the defence in Russell's absence. But I'm just not getting my hopes up until I've seen a photo of him signing.
-
Read it all before, mate. Russell Anderson said the very same thing only two days before he signed for Sunderland. I'll only believe he wants to sign an extension once he has actually signed and we've seen his signature-photo in the Depressing Journal.

Reckon they're the Egyptian equivalent of Scottish pub teams. So nil-nil draws all the way then, hehe

Excuse me if I'm wrong cos I wasn't there, but reading a couple of match reports ... wasn't Nicholson on the bench for the first half? Accordingly he came on for the second half to replace Touzani who came off with a head injury.
