If Manamana is what's available in pound stretcher, then perhaps we should shop there more often. If it's a season or two we are expecting out of him, then I'll be happy. We only got a season and a half out of Peter Kjaer, but WOW what an asset he was to us in those couple of seasons! As BobbyBiscuit says, Manamana is a seasoned pro, and a mobile one at that too! He may not be able to keep up with our defence, but he can certainly still do a more than adequate job against most the SPL's strikers ... with probably only the likes of Naesmith being the sort of player who may cause him any sort of pace-problems.

Welcome back Kelt!
-
Glad to see we're back on the ball with signing QUALITY players, instead of these second-division journeymen we were signing a few seasons ago. Always liked McNamara. I thought that, in his prime, he was the best Scottish talent behind Jess. Still reckon he's got what it takes to perform well and consistently for us. In my view, he's MORE than adequate a replacement for our outgoing players.
-
Experienced in leading his team to relegation?! No thanks. We've had stacks of players who were more than qualified in that department. I'm happier that we're looking at winners rather than losers.
-
No real surprise there, then. Reckon Daal found his level in the First Division. I reckon he'd be a huge hit in the MLS. But in the fast-paced and bruising SPL I reckon he was just too far out of his depth to make a real impact at a club like Aberdeen. Good luck to him, though.

Drewsome, min. I know you've been an Aberdeen man long enough to realise that the Dons NEVER EVER do things the easy way. We get things done! But we NEVER do them without giving the long-suffering Red Army a couple more minor heart-attacks first. If it's escaping relegation, getting into the top six, or getting into Europe ... regardless of what our target is on that particular season, we ALWAYS seem to do the business, but never ever the easy way. We always leave it until the last couple of weeks of the season. Remember when we played Livi on the second last day of the season to decide which one of us would go into Europe? It was widely tipped that Livi would hump us (as they had given us a 6-1 thrashing just a few months previously on our own turf). Well we played a blinder that day (Danish Day, I do believe) and got into Europe in style. And then there was the season we finished last in the league. It took a thirteenth hour decision from the other SPL clubs to save us from relegation by stating that Falkirk's stadium was too shit to be a part of the SPL. And then the first season of the top-six shite, we finished just short of the top six, but won just about every single game from there on in (Steve "Pele" Paterson's first few games) and am pretty sure we ended up with more points than the 4th-placed team. Like I say, the Dons never do things the easy way. But we DO do it.

Eh? That's how fucked up the game is. You can appeal against violent conduct or for racially abusing a ref and get to play games that you shouldn't be playing in. But you can't appeal against celebrating one of the most crucial goals your team has scored all season? Fuckin joke, min!
-
Oh ye of little hope, min. There is ALWAYS a chance in hell that we can beat either of the Brothers Grim. Both Rangers and Celtic have nothing to prove. If anything, we may face a vastly understrength Old Firm over the next fortnight as Strachan and Smith tinker with new formations and young players. I reckon Hibs could really do us a favour. They have the ability to rip ANY SPL team apart, and have frequently racked up rugby scores this season against some teams. My money is on Hibs helping us out with either a draw or a win against the tarts. And it could well be Stevie Naismiths last game for Killie, so I reckon he'll go out with a bang too. So Hearts won't really have it easy for the remaining two games.
-
Yeah, but we've got pretty close ties to AFC. It's their property that we're linking to. If we say "nah, get tae" to the club's requests to pull these links, then the club can easily turn their backs on us and say "no more favours!". It's in their interests not to do this. But it's in our interests to keep these links off the site too!

Why clock up the airmiles, mate? Don't you know there are buses running from Gorgie to Ibrox?
-
Just read in the Teamtalk website (article here) that Hearts have decided to appeal the racist claims relating to Laryea Kingston. As a result, he doesn't have to serve his three-match ban until the beginning of the new season, leaving him free to play in their final (and probably most crucial) matches of the season. Again, this is absolutely farsical! I remember a few seasons ago the huns appealed Fernando Ricksen's "karate kick" on Darren Young, and as such he was free to play in crucial matches that he was due to be suspended for. It's an absolute joke that this is allowed. If I was handed a driving suspension, can I appeal it because I really really need to drive next week? NO! If I appeal, I might not get punished financially (or criminally), but I sure as hell wouldn't get to drive again until my case is heard.

It appears that the site wa configured to slow down access if you were browsing through a network that was behind multiple firewalls. Very rarely are home users behind more than one firewall, but offices are quite often behind both hardware AND software firewalls. As such, a lot of people found browsing the site from work a very slow and laborious task. I've since disabled the bit of coding that was affected by these firewalls, and it appears to have paid dividends.

Yes please, if you could! I believe the issue may now be fixed, but I need as many people who were having speed-related issues to check the site again and report accordingly! Cheers

Whilst it ain't us who are actually hosting the videos, if we link to the YouTube videos then we are seen as a vehicle thru which people can see these images. ANY videos or photos of inside Pittodrie are automatically copyright of AFC, regardless of who has recorded them. When we post links to videos on YouTube, effectively it is against the interests of RedTV so the club come a-knocking on our doors.

Done! I've re-enabled the avatar resizing. How is the speed now? Still good? Or has the site slowed down again?
-
I'm nae one of the folk who is having issues with my speed on the site. But can anyone who was previously having issues please let me know if there is any improvement now? I've been doing a wee bit of tweaking on the site, and believe I might've stumbled across something that may have been slowing several users down ... especially users who are behind multiple firewalls. If you were previously having speed-related issues, can you please let us know here if the site is a bit faster now ... or indeed if there's no change whatsoever!

Go to any bar in Leith. I've been to a number of Hibee bars in the past, and they GLADLY support Aberdeen when we face the minihuns. Still reckon there's a very tangible relationship between Aberdeen and Hibs. I've not met many Hibees who dislike the Dons ... and I used to work in a Hibee bar!

"Didn't have to deal with Paul Le Guen"??! They seem to think that the title is theirs by right! Granted if we didn't have to deal with likes of Alex Miller, then we'd be winning titles again too! Fact is, we've got to live with it. No league is anyones by right. They have to take gambles to have a chance of winning ... unless you're Dunfermline, in which case you just take all the has-beens of the SPL and put them together to create the most boring product in Scottish Football. But if I remember rightly, there were a number of managers prior to PLuG who fucked things up at Ibrox. Infact, every manager who's been incharge at Ibrox since Walter Smith left has fucked things up. If it's not fielding an entirely foreign team, it's fielding a team of "up and coming local nobodies who cannae even get a game for Airdrie (and they dinnae exist anymore!). Or if it's not bowing out to complete minnows of European football such as Viktoria Zizkov, it's blowing £12million on a big galoot of a player like Tore Andre Flo who scored a few goals at Chelsea cos he was receiving service from one of the best midfields in the world. The huns have VERY short memories if they think every fault is down to PLuG. Mind you, there's quite a high number of huns who actually bear an uncanny resemblence to Plug

I genuinely believe we've got the right strikers at the squad right now. We just don't have any creative midfielders who can feed the strikers anything. Nicholson is reasonably creative, but one source is not good enough. I'm pretty miffed we didn't have a real crack at signing Brian Kerr. Would Michael Stewart be worth a look at?

Signed Aberdeen FC Club Shirt (real SPL football top) on Ebay
Reekie_Red replied to a topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Nice shirt. Amusing advert though! Signed by, amongst others ... Derek Young and Tommy Solberg! Yeah, somebody needs to talk to you about how to sell a product! And it certainly is a rareity, as it's Baldur Bett's shirt ... and it's seen SPL action. That's like selling one of David Zdrillic's hatrick matchballs! Don't mind my sarcasm. It's all part of being an AFC fan. Good luck with the auction. The shirt looks to be in good condition -
Probably released that statement cos he doesn't have to face the fans every week. I mean, let's face it. If you were a Pars fan, would you be passionate about your club? Passionate enough to stand outside the club doors protesting when things keep going wrong? Stand outside the club doors when a manager gets sacked to see what's the latest? I mind when heaps of fans were camped (oo-err) outside the main doors of Pittodrie when Ebbe left. Eventually, Dazzling Darren was given the task of reading out the 'official' press statement, cos all the other players kept saying different things as they left. Bet he's glad he doesn't have to do that sorta stuff now! Let's face it, Pars fans winnae protest, cos Pars fans dinnae care. Enjoy Division One, Darren. Yer brother's found his level there. Maybe you should too.

Welcome back min. Hey, btw ... just for old time's sake ... wrong forum, min!

Could be a good new nickname for the hatters ... "Woolworths" Hemin, fits the latest on Woolies?

Statistics and miniskirts, eh?! Wouldn't it be cool being Dunfermline? Only losing two games throughout the whole season against every single club except Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Kilmarnock, Motherw.... We see this statistic appearing every season in recent times. Sad thing is, this doesn't mean jackshit because, unfortunately for us, this league contains Rangers and Celtic ... the two teams who we have failed to get any change from this season. If we'd managed to raise our game against these two teams like we did last term, then we might not be trying our best to brush Hearts off our shoulders. Indeed, we'd be looking far far towards the horizon and seeing a feint maroon glow way far back in 4th place! Hey, we could even still be sitting proudly in SECOND!!
-
Why not? It'd increase revenue from increased attendances in the bottom-half of the SPL. Currently, a match between S'murn and Dunfermline on the last few weeks of the season will attract three old fellas and one canine companion. But imagine what a playoff between S'murn and Dundee would attract ... with the KNOWLEDGE that the winner of the match would go up, and the loser would go down?!! Not only do the SPL and SFL benefit from this ... but both the winning and losing teams benefit from a day of having a higher-than-average attendance. Yeah, I know there's the slight issue of one of the teams going down ... but surely that's got to be part and parcel of having a shit season. At the moment, if you have a shit season, you've got an 11-in-12 chance of staying in the top flight. Stupid, really!!
