  1. The herald says today is the today McGhee finds out the outcome of his Celtic Interview. 'Various' BBC SPL Gossip page; state he will be appointed at Aberdeen if unsuccesful. Today may actually be the day all the mad rumours cease..!
  2. I dont know if it'll be confirmation of a new manager but at least a statement from WM about our intentions..
  3. This wasn't here a minute ago... http://www.afc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/clubNewsDetail/0,,10284~1666218,00.html Could we find out this evening about our new management team?
  4. Here's me thinking that with the manager gone there would be potential to put all this JIG / JMG pish behind us. Hopefully that will be the case in the next couple of weeks. I think that the effect of the 'protest' is over-estimated here, however what is recognised is that the fans were divided, as a pulsecheck between this forum and the hat and mad there are evidently plenty of fans who love the Dons 100% - it is pitiful to see attempted point scoring and bitterness relating to Calderwoods departure and who championed either way. Am just wondering if the players knew prior to the pish up that led to the boxing on Tuesday...
  5. So the new manager whoever it is has either 7 or 9 weeks to review the squad after summer departures. That isn't a whole lot of time..
  6. I have mixed emotions about this announcement especially on the day where we secure another venture into Europe. Calderwood has given us stablity, respectability, consistent Top 6 finishes and a great European run. Calderwood has also divided our fans, given us 2 of the worst moments of being a Dons fan QOTS/DA and has also frustrated endlessly with tactical tinkering and slavering in the press. Only time will tell if this will be good for the club, the next managerial appointment is crucial. However I am really concerned for next season and in this current financial climate is 2 european ties plus potential of more a big enough carrot for a new manager, we won't have the funds to put out there to attract one! I always asked who would everyone that hates Calderwood replace him with - I guess now we'll find out..
  7. Mark McGhee Craig Levein Willie Miller Jim Jeffries John Hughes Eric Black Billy Reid Steve Coppell Loads of names in the mix??
  8. Wouldn't surprise me if its Willie Miller to save the club money..
  9. Certainly sounds like he's going from what Richard Gordon said. Although Calderwood is maintaining he has a contract and its about talking to a few people??? He is not coming out and saying - am staying. Between the lines it must be he is getting the dunt or someone else has come in for him
  10. Great just great ! Unreal - although Wednesday was the players day off you don't expect nonsense like this to happen. Why not wait til the END of the season and all fuck off to shagaluf again to get pished? Who knows how it went down, or what was said, or who kicked it off? Its easy to lambast Kerr but folk get charged by the cops for self defence or splitting up fights these days. Also am sure I read Kerr got caught and went down then got kicked in the head. If so this is another piece of over zealous bouncer action - no need to kick a bloke in the head when on the deck! If he is down concussed then why is there any need to launch in a size 14 and fracture an eye socket? If the players have been acting big time charlies then they get all they deserve, fines suspensions, disciplinary action. If they have been the victim of some of the trash that inhabit Aberdeen town centre everynight and want to box with everyone then they have my sympathies. I also cant stand door staff who a) act like cocks to the average bloke out on the pish and b) react with unnecessary force. Either way roll on Sunday ! Lets do the HIVEES !
  11. 5-3-2 possibly Playing for a draw or on counter with Foster and Mulgrew changing it to 3-5-2 as required. Langfield Considine Severin Mair Foster Mulgrew Young MacDonald Smith Miller Maguire
  12. Am thoroughly fed up of the JMG / JIG nonsense. Throughout the season and at crucial moments you could easily move from one position to the other if forced to chose an extreme. JIG - banging in 4 goals against Celtic, JMG - losing to the Pars. The only thing this polarisation of opinion is doing is dividing fans. Calderwood has brought us respectability with decent league finishes, a great european adventure and the result of this a large chunk of debt re-written or cleared. He also brought us some terrible lows , QOTS semi being one of the worst games I have ever experienced and the inevitability about this years Cup game was there to see. For me the Pars game was not nearly as bad as QOTS, due to Dunfermline sitting in with nearly 7 at the back and us going out on pens. I despise the constant need for your support to be pigeon holed into either area, and the I told you so folk who have the self righteous position of championing anything negative you say not defending Calderwood 110%. The question remains - who is the viable alternative and to this I have not heard a decent reasoned answer that a) would guarantee us to be in a better position than with Calderwood and b) would compensate for the pay off required. I don't think he is God at all but thats what we have at present and is a protest going to help the team reach Europe?
  13. Out : Miller, Mair, Mackie - possibly Smith and Aluko (needs to talk to the latter two apparently.. ken fit talking i'd be doing a rocket fired up the fuckin arse.. I'd go with the following - Langfield Foster Severin Diamond Mulgrew Young Kerr McDonald Aluko Smith Wright If Aluko out then play Considine at LB with Mulgrew LM If Smith out then Maguire behind Wright. Options are pretty few and far between...
  14. Until we secure a Top 6 spot I cant see the regulars and seasoned campaigners being shifted to the bench. As much as I want to see Paton or Pawlett given a chance now is not the right time.
  15. ''We cannot afford to let fantastic opportunities like this pass the club by.'' Am pretty sure Miller will be getting his arse felt by the board for the result also - considering our West Coast media friends decide to report QOTS £1million profit from their cup run and final simultaneously with our exit. As DOF I think that some strategy other than sorry - we were pish is required, am sure as fuck if I were on a 6 figure salary I would have to justify it with more than soul searching.. Underneath this is the fact that Pittodrie even with c14K inside for a cup tie is at times like a morgue and this in turn underlines the depression.
  16. Mark Kerr closely followed by Diamond. Worst Man on Park - Severin Bayne was probably their best player holding up the ball and never failing in dsitribution, ironically showing what we were missing with Miller being out.
  17. Am glad to see a sensible thread about last night, had a peek next door and some of the vitriol is absolute nonsense. In regards to the team put out last night, it was a team designed to attack with pace - a task performed for about 10 minutes, I can agree with his initial selection. Smith, Aluko, Mackie and Maguire all had it in their locker to tear that defence open. Why the team switched off is beyond me it was all to play for, we can play football but the players chose not to being dragged into a game at division 1 level. Am sure as hell any SPL manager starting with 2 wingers would not tell a team to resort to longballs for 90 minutes. However failings are again obvious, the mantra of lets play to cancel them out led to Severin sitting on Phinn and effectively put us a man down in midfield, that man being our playmaker. FFS just play our own game and let teams worry about us without the tinkering, while your considering that bring in some youngsters. Dunfermline played a spoiling game, were restricted to random shots from 25-30 yards and Langfield had very little to do, they played for the pens and took the chance when it arose. It's not easy to beat a team with 6 at the back. The fundamental question remains - who would replace Calderwood? Followed by what would it cost? As frustrating as being found out 2 years on the trot in the SC, who is to say that in 5 years we are back to bottom 6 relegation rubbish and wondering was the fatman really that bad. He has brought us respectability, and with the Euro run halved our debt. These things look good on a managers cv regardless of the product on the park. It will take another manager to move us from respectability to respected. Top 6 is essential, 3rd wont even please some, however at present I dont think there is a real alternative to our current regime. I did not applaud Pars last night due to their shitey style of football, QOTS deserved the applause last season due to playing us off the pitch at times. Pittodrie - as much as I love the old lady, atmosphere is dreadful too many mood hoovers among our fans..
  18. Thank fuck he was on the park tonight - one redeeming feature in amongst that utter pish, although Zander also gets pass marks- especially for the Zander Ronaldo stepover. Disappointed at the result, no longer angry - think my QOTS experience taught me all I need to know about being raging at a game. Its a sad state of affairs when a team comes to Pittodrie to play anti-football with 4 at the back and 2 defensive mids in front of that, but that was their plan and we have to be better than that. We had 120 minutes to change that and they were breathing out their arses after 70, getting massages at FT due to being banjoed. The apathy among the fans was hanging in the air tonight, the penalty shoot out had the air of inevitability. Props to Duff for stepping up first. Scott Severin - pack your bags now, or at least play only once a fortnight, or only in defence or something. At least watch that game and wonder what you've become as a footballer.. Calderwood - dig out your survival manual Never should have lost either tie, but life being a don wouldn't be the same without the continuous disappointments. Here's to nailing 3rd - it's got to be done...
  19. 1-1 was a fair result in the end, although we should have used the first period in the second half to bury the tie. Kerr, although he looks like a runt and needs a haircut deserves another deal, I worry for our midfield if he ever picks up an injury. Aluko was excellent although could play earlier ball on occasion. Missing the attacking Mulgrew and would prefer him at left mid - thought the comments about him concentrating on defensive duties have affected him. Hard to forgive Foster for the random header that led to their goal, but he was only on the park 4 minutes and in that time the defense changed from 4 to 3 at the back. For folk querying why Considine came on, it was to allow us to go 3-5-2 with Duff and Mulgrew pushing on as wing backs..the usual gung ho type effort from calderwood. Great atmosphere today, and a solid bounce for Sone's goal. Welcome back Jamie Smith, lets hope we leave you wondering on a new deal to get performances like that until the end of the season.
  20. Dear AFC, No fucking up like last years semi today please. Too many folk are still scarred by that day. Only a win will stop the pitchfork mob descending on Pittodrie this evening. Just Do It... Thanks
  21. Going: 1. Mizer 2. Funster 3. GD 4. Manc_don 5. Padre 6. Hebrew 7. BigAl & Son 8. topcorner 9. Bert and the irn bru mob 10. Jagerdeen 11. Peterheid Loon 12. 22. A Happy Dons team captured 5 minutes before the news broke that the Tennants Sixes would not be going ahead this year.
  23. After Foran falling through I was told by a friend that Higdon was an option for us. Apparently we had already approached Higdon prior to attempting to sign Foran to create a fallback position. Fits Jimmys desire to have a 'bigger' team, affordable, wages within budget, I reckon he would be a good addition certainly is a handful and gets stuck right in. Only stumbling block is the commute for his family already 3 hours from pool to Falkirk Will wait and see... Not usually one for rumours but hey ho fuck all else going on.
  24. 1 Round Collars are pish because they strangle you at fives. 2 Skin tight things are pish because my ever growing man boobs look stupid in them 3 Skin tight things are pish because we are not Italian and its bollocks freezing in Scotland.
