http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lennox-Craig-Russell/dp/1847249671/ref=pd_cp_b_2 Absolutely superb, great find. Wasn't aware of this series of books, of which "Lennox" is number one in a collection. Set in post WW2, Glasgow of the early 50's, I can't help but think there is a TV mini series in here somewhere. Got shit loads of time on my hands these days, so after finishing the first, got the other three for the kindle and rattled through them pdq. Funster, strongly recommend for you, as just the sort of thing I believe you liike reading mate P.S Make sure you read in correct order

http://forum.rangersmedia.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=265152&st=20 Sorry guys to sully our fine board with filth like this, but this was sent to me, and for entertainment value I felt I simply must share with you. Comment 24 is the one...... -
Yes indeed I do and several others like it if I'm honest. There are two types of awful football matches, and to be honest I'm not sure everyone is going to buy into this. Firstly where both teams are absolutely shite...yesterday fell into that category, neither team could string more than about three/four passes together. Secondly you get games where the team you support get a doing, because they are shite, and the other team play well, no matter how much you wish they hadn't, and that is the category into which a 4-0 defeat @ Rugby Park falls.... And on that basis, yesterday's game is one of the worst I can remember ever attending
-
key word is REMEMBER Trust me however, today was fucking awful
-
Turgid Worst game I can remember ever being at......

Disagree regarding the size of the Dons support. Glasgow last Sat, Edinburgh two weeks ago, Paisley this weekend, Glasgow next weekend....got a feeling this is the one that might suffer.

BBQ on day of tie I assume Dave
-
Decent enough draw, so not complaining, however interesting that assuming ICT put out Stranraer, nice to see the then two lowest remaining teams draw one another
-
Couldn't care less who we get or don't get in the quarters, although given two away draws already in Glasgow, you could see a third successive one coming out of the hat this afternoon. Opened this thread with comment about Collum, so in coldl ight of day with sober head, actually going to go on record and say I thought by his previous standards he had an excellent performance yesterday. P.S. One swallow doesn't make a summer, he is still a tosser though

Aberdeen fans aren’t bigots.. they dislike everyone equally
BigAl replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Another good article from the Evening Times: Derek Rae I HAVE to start my column this week with a disclaimer: I am an Aberdonian. I grew up in the Granite City and I have monitored the highs and the lows experienced by the team in red throughout my life. It is impossible for anyone from the north-east of Scotland not to have an affinity with the Pittodrie club. I was on Bundesliga duty with BT Sport on Saturday and only caught up with how Aberdeen had fared in the League Cup semi- final afterwards. I was pleased to hear Derek McInnes's side had beaten St Johnstone 4-0 at Tynecastle. Not long afterwards, though, the story about Neil Lennon being abused by Aberdeen fans emerged through his agent. I immediately posted a Tweet saying that any right-minded football fan would condemn that behaviour. And I also added that I hoped the thuggish actions of a small minority of so-called Dons fans would not be used to suit the political agenda of some. But I think the response to this sad incident has shown us that it is high time that we all started forming our own opinions. For I am afraid that far too many people are being led down the garden path by agitators in the blogosphere. Now, there are a lot of good writers online. But I get very tired of reading people who only have one outlook on life. And it troubles me greatly that many people seem to want to believe anything they publish. The facts of the matter, as Neil himself confirmed when he spoke to the media after the game with St Mirren on Sunday, are as follows. What happened in the capital was concerning and unpleasant. But he was not the victim of sectarian abuse. I thought Neil was very skilful in his choice of words. He did not inflame what was a delicate situation. Does the west of Scotland have a sectarianism problem? Undoubtedly. Is it sectarian every time Neil Lennon gets abused? Of course not. Was what happened at the weekend loutish, thuggish and unacceptable? Absolutely. Was it sectarian? No, it was not I grew up being told the story of the little boy who cried wolf. The reaction to events at the weekend reminded me of that fable. Yes, there is sectarianism in this country. But the last time I checked it was not a main issue for any political party in either the Scottish or British elections. I grew up in Aberdeen and can say unequivocally that sectarianism is not a part of everyday life in the city. I know for a fact the people of the city are furious about this. It is extremely dangerous for people to inflame things regardless of the facts just to suit their own political agendas. It is not at all helpful in the battle against this problem. -
We're in agreement mate. It is the exception rather than the rule, but licensing law in Glasgow does allow for 11am opening, but you're right the majority don't bother to do it. A cup final day might be the exception though I could be wrong in saying this, but I think JDW open @ 7am even on a Sunday, but I guess it is only for breakfast and non alcoholic drinks.....would allow for a lining on the stomach though.

All the JDW pubs, i.e Counting House and the one across the road at Queen St Station (old campus) will be open as they will be doing breakfasts.

OMG.....not heard much outcry about this.....Quelle surprise A GROUP of Celtic fans opposing Scotland's sectarianism in football laws are to release an anthem to Irish Republican hunger strikers as part of their campaign against the legislation. A GROUP of Celtic fans opposing Scotland's sectarianism in football laws are to release an anthem to Irish Republican hunger strikers as part of their campaign against the legislation. Custom byline text: ELLEN THOMAS Fans Against Criminalisation (FAC) said they would release 'Roll Of Honour' next week in a bid to "embarrass the hypocrites who seek to criminalise us". The song mentions the 10 Provisional IRA and INLA members who starved themselves to death in Northern Ireland's notorious Maze Prison in 1981 in protest against the UK Government's prison policies for paramilitary inmates. It has seen several Celtic fans brought before the courts under the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act for the line "England You're A Monster", although some of these cases have been dismissed by sheriffs. It is being released in conjunction with its authors, the notorious 'rebel' band The Irish Brigade. A statement from FAC said the release of the song would "help aid our campaign against the criminalisation of football supporters and the suppression of political expression". It adds: "This particular song is a ballad about civil resistance and a struggle for basic human rights and it has been a favourite of the Celtic support for over a decade. "Shamefully, the SNP's Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act has resulted in the song becoming a target for Police Scotland and numerous arrests have been made as a result. "From its outset FAC has sought to oppose this discriminatory piece of legislation and to defend the rights of football supporters which have been continually eroded since the Act's introduction. "We call on the Celtic family from all corners of the globe to support this campaign by downloading the single to help raise funds to aid the legal costs of those whose lives are being torn apart by this disgracefully illiberal law and to help further publicise the hypocrisy inherent within the government's position." But the move has not been universally endorsed by Celtic fans on social media, with some criticising the plans as being unrepresentative of the wider support. One fan said: "'This is a song the vast majority of fans see as having nothing whatsoever to do with their club. Celtic is a club which is looking forward, not back."
