1. It's the same every year. We let a bunch of players go, a couple of first team regulars and a few fringe/reserve players. we then bring in maybe one or two new players who may or, as is more like the case, may NOT be able replacements. Usually just journeymen. We proceed to fanny around trying to sign other players who invariably go elsewhere for more money. Then, with the season about to start, and having done the sum of fuck all to get in a decent player, we panic and buy any old shite and pretend it was our number one choice. At the end of last season we were told (lied to) that we'd be getting in 8 - 10 new players to cover the departures. No-one seriously believed that was going to happen, surely?
2. Saturday, 11 August, 2001 Hibs dump dismal Dons Hibernian 2-0 Aberdeen Franck Sauzee fires Hibs in front from the penalty spot Hibs recorded their first three points of the season with a comfortable triumph over Aberdeen at Easter Road. Franck Sauzee slotted home an early penalty and Tam McManus added another goal in the 45th minute in a match dominated by Alex McLeish's side. Hibs were guilty of missing numerous good chances and Aberdeen goalkeeper David Preece produced some fine saves. With three games of the season played, the visitors are still pointless and goalless. Ebbe Skovdahl's men offered little in the way of attacking football and gave away possession far too easily. For the home side Alen Orman replaced right wing-back Ulises de la Cruz, who was away on international duty with Ecuador, while Gary Smith and Paco Luna were relegated to the bench. Paul Fenwick and McManus were the players to benefit. Calum Bett earned a starting place for the Dons and Hicham Zerouali was among the substitutes having recovered from a broken leg sustained almost a year ago. Hibs were given a dream start when John O'Neil was upended in the penalty box by Thomas Solberg in the 4th minute. Sauzee drove the spot kick down the middle to put his side in front. Craig Brewster and Derek Whyte tussle Craig Brewster blew a glorious chance in the 11th minute when he completely missed the ball right in front of goal following a great run and cross from McManus. Soon after, Preece had to race from his line to block the advancing Grant Brebner as Hibs pressed for another goal. The Dons keeper then had to look smart to smother an errant defensive header from Derek Whyte. An excellent turn and shot from O'Neil in the 36th minute produced another good save from the busy Preece. Another chance for Hibs was wasted when McManus knocked the ball wide after pouncing on a slack headed back pass from Whyte. McManus was rewarded for an industrious display right on the stroke of half time when he slammed the ball high into the net, having been released by a defence splitting pass from Brewster. Zerouali was thrown on at the start of the second half as the Dons went in search of their first goal of the season. The lively McManus went close with an angled drive before being replaced by David Zitelli. With 15 minutes remaining Darren Young saw his drilled shot tipped wide by Nick Colgan as the visitors made a rare sortie towards the Hibs goal. A great turn on the edge of the box gave Brewster room to shot but his goal-bound effort was blocked by the body of Whyte. The impressive Orman should have put Hibs further ahead but was wide of the mark with a free header from a corner. Orman was later denied by the feet of Preece after some neat footwork inside the penalty area. Hibernian: Colgan, Fenwick, Sauzee, Laursen, Orman, Brebner, Jack, O'Neil, Murray, McManus, Brewster. 3. I hope he cooks better than he plays fitba, 'cause he was shite at fitba.
4. Was thinking the same thing. Only thing that alarmed me about McNamara leaving was the length of time it took to happen. Worst player ever to wear a Dons shirt? I think so.
5. First big lie of the close season, and it's a fucking quality lie. Not an original lie, of course. They said something similar last year. But still, it's a good yin. I'm going to predict that the next big lie will be the claim that we're going to build links with whatever gash teams we play in pre-season.
6. Wasn't going to be buying a kit this year, actually would have been 2.. one for me and one for the loon.. but this bland, unimaginative abortion pretty much seals the deal. I'll keep my 200 bucks and use it to buy him a Redwings jersey. The defeat to QotS.. sorry, the surrender to QotS determined how much money AFC would get from me this season.. and that's fuck all. If they show some ambition next season I might buy a kit the season after... but based on their signings so far they'll be getting no cash out of me then either. Whole club can bleed to death as far as I'm concerned. Perfectly happy to see it happen.
7. If I was any good at fitba I sure as fuck wouldnae play for Aberdeen. I'd go where the money was, have no loyalty, and only go to Aberdeen if they were the only club that wanted me. Oh, so I'm Lee Miller then.
8. 80. Exciting young player comes through Aberdeen youth system 81. Aberdeen sign exciting prospect 82. Aberdeen gets realistic price for it's team captain
9. The board DOES have ambition, and this is the problem, because their ambition is simply to remain in the SPL and shoot for top 6 finishes. Another problem is that we could have had a guy for 50k who turns out to be a player. And we didn't have the coaches who weer able to identify his talent. Instead we went with Young. This speaks volumes for the lack of basic ability amongst our coaching staff. The rot runs deep at Aberdeen, and it might never go away.
10. Not sure Aberdeen should be signing any young players. Any time we sign 'one for the future' the fail to develop beyond where they were when they arrived. In fact they actually get worse, since 'promising players' and 'fantastic prospects' at Aberdeen eventually regress to the stage where they are released on a free and sign for non-league teams. We don't have the coaches or training set up to bring young players' talent out, so we should stick to signing mediocre 25+ year old players who at least know the basics and don't have to rely on our abysmal facilities to learn their trade. Signing anyone under 25 is going to be a waste of time and money, and it's not fair on a player to destroy whatever prospects they might have had of developing into the player they have the potential to be. Mind you, at 25 Cowie is hardly a young player.
11. Exactly. A squad player who's not particularly good at anything, fills an empty shirt and not a lot else. Does nothing to improve the side. If he's going to be a regular first team player then we're going to be weak in whatever department he's playing. We've got worse, but they've no business playing for us either.
12. Novo dismissed, violent conduct. Horrific challenge, and even the ref had to send him off. Which surprised me.. because the ref sent him off.
13. Huns getting desperate. Loving it? Do I not like that? But yes... I do.
14. Novo uses his hand to gain advantage, ref only too happy to wave play on as Boyd goes through on goal. Awesome. Refereeing integrity, anyone?
15. DUFF, YOU CUNT! LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE MILLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRR!!!!!! THAT IS A GOAL!
16. Commentator going on about how tonight's games show the integrity of the Scottish game, with both Aberdeen and United going for it and not lying down. No, what that shows is the integrity of Aberdeen and United, which was never in question. The lack of integrity is from Rangers, Celtic, the SFA and the referees. And that hasn't changed, nor will it.
17. Great tackle by Touzani on the edge of the box, foul to the huns. Awesome.
18. Blatant haul down on Diamond by Adam, no foul. Awesome.
19. Surprisingly Aberdeen are clearly the better team right now. Huns had a wee spell, but we've posed more attacking threats. Wish we had a striker though.
20. Darcheville's (sp) a threat... just need to stamp on his ankle to neutralise that threat.
21. Hun tries to break Miller's jaw... commentator: "Sometimes that just happens". Certainly does, particularly when the Huns are playing Aberdeen.
22. If losing 4-3 to Queen of the South in a Scottish Cup semi-final isn't a sackable offence, then nothing is. I've been a supporter of the mentally ill buffoon since he arrived, but if he'd been sacked after that game I'd have been perfectly happy. I'd still be perfectly happy to see him sacked for that.
