Thousands of Queen of the South fans have snapped up tickets for their Scottish Cup semi-final with Aberdeen.

 

The Dumfries side face the Dons at Hampden on 12 April - the first time the Doonhamers have reached that stage of the competition in 58 years.

 

A club spokesman said they had sold about 5,500 tickets so far.

 

Aberdeen have reported a "relatively slow" response so far but expect that to pick up when general ticket sales open up on Thursday.

 

A spokesman for the Pittodrie club said they remained confident of taking several thousand fans to the match.

 

Queen of the South's ticket sales are already more than double their average home attendance this season, which stands at about 2,000 supporters.

 

The town itself has a population of a little over 30,000.

 

The Dumfries side reached the cup semi-final thanks to a 2-0 win over Dundee.

 

They have yet to concede a goal in this year's competition.

 

I thought we would be bringing a pretty decent crowd down, but going on that I may have to think again as if anyone is going to go it will be people in supporters clubs. I know we have a record order put in, which maybe skewed my thoughts.

If reports are correct there are already more tickets sold than seats in easter road or tyncastle.  We should be encouraging as many folk as possible to get to the game.  The way they have sold tickets should ensure the best possible atmosphere.....and to be frank I want to see afc at hampden again, not some shit hole in edinburgh

I'm not so desperate to see us at Hampden that I want watch us in a half empty stadium grinding out a result against QotS, I want to have a proper day out at hampden where I can walk in and look over a sea of reds waving flags and banners and feel just for one day that we actually have a support that gives a fuck.

well given that there will be circa 15,000 dandies there you should get that.

Padre, you are bringing a tear to my throat and a lump to my eye. There will still be a great atmosphere amongst the Dons support for this one, despite the empty parts of the stadium. You will be able to see a sea of flags as we are getting to lay them all out across the seats in the empty bit

There is still something special about going to hampden that you just would never get at Ibrox or Celtic Park.  The SFA got fuck all money to redevelop Hampden compared to the EFA and WFA for Wemberlee and the Millenium Stadium respectively.  The South and North stands are excellent, even the stands behind the goals are ok as long as you aren't too near the front.  It's not ideal but I'd far rather be going to Hampden for cup semifinals and finals the Ibrox, Celtic Park or fucking Murrayfield.

 

Perhaps you should watch the semi at home as you quite clearly decided that the whole experience will be a pile of shit

According to footy mad poster we have sold out our North and South Stand allocation (shown in red). We will now start selling East stand tickets to fill the gap between our two supports. Rumour is that the NS area holds 9Kish and SS area holds 3Kish. 12K sold already is a decent performance if its true, especially as th ephones seem to be busy today
