BigAl Posted March 27 Report Posted March 27 Watching the second half with BBC Scotland commentary. Summariser is Ryan Stevenson, a guy who I have always thought was a total cock but actually sounding pretty knowledgeable about things Quote
Jute Posted March 27 Report Posted March 27 0-0. Luke Graham probably best for Scotland. Lobban and Frame both played okay. Same problem as always for Scotland with no real striking threat. Quote
Jute Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Lewis Carroll and Cooper Masson starting for U19s. 1 Quote

TheDonbytheDee Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Watching a Scotland game for the first time in years, well over 10, probably nearer 20. Not something I could do regularly. At least it's not rugby. Loving that Japan top though. Quote

swaddon Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Tommy Conway sounds like the name of a singer from the 1950s. Quote
manc_don Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 Was a terrible Scotland performance, but nice for it to be a win-win fixture for me (mum is Japanese). Definitely deserved the win of the two sides but a pretty dire game until the subs were made. Quote
wokinginashearerwonderland Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 For the undoubtedly good work that Clarke has done we still have a lot of progress to make. The right back and keeper not playing for their clubs and we started the game yesterday with what is really four central midfielders. Conway who is a central striker by trade stuck out on the wing. The wee hun boy looks a decent prospect, would have preferred to see him get 90 minutes to see if he could be an option for us out wide. Feels like we are still trying to shoehorn all of our best players into the first eleven. Quote
Jute Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 Really very poor game yesterday. Not sure what Clarke learnt from it. Surely he already knew Conway and McGinn were not wide players. Quote
swaddon Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 "Rydnn"? Is that a typo or his actual name? How is it pronounced? Quote
Jute Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 Liam Kelly is an awful keeper. Would be nowhere near team if he wasn’t a bench warmer at Huns. Quote
Jute Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 U21s 2-0 down to Portugal but U19s 3-0 up on Poland. Quote

He's been in from his time at Motherwell, and is one of only four Scottish goalkeepers left in the world. I think he'll be the one to drop out if Gordon is fit in time. Anyway, not the worst performance tonight against a decent team. We were terrible for the first half hour, but matched them for most of the rest of the game. Hirst isn't a footballer, and it's obviously a big problem, not having a quality striker. There's probably five or six players we shouldn't be taking with us, because they're just pointless. Quote
blinlemon Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 They’re no fucking good at fitbs. Just give it up. Quote
OrlandoDon Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 Didn’t see the games but Scotland have one of the same main problems we have at Aberdeen. It’s a very difficult game when you don’t have any creative width. Without threat wide it becomes a very narrow and congested game, lots of sideways backwards and slow play. Again, didn’t see the games but that’s my sense based on reports, a from past games. Makes it pretty painful to watch. Without doak we’re quite stuck, one of the reason I’d have accepted Barnes. MLS season is young, but Lewis Morgan and Ryan gauld provide creativity and some width we sorely lack. But I don’t think Clark has the time or willingness to really make them work for the national team. Quote

Both are or were injured, gauld had knee surgery, plus MLS season stated recently. I don’t really follow the league so not sure how they are doing, but I know both have done well over here. They may actually be fit and fresh for the World Cup, unlike many who have run to death and are at the end of their seasons. Clarke had them in the squad before so I’m not ruling them out, but we are desperate for creativity. Clarke has done well but with his favorites and the fact we have our talent in central midfield, to get the most out of gauld, Morgan, or a few other players would require changes in personnel formation and tactics.
