I was just watching him a few weeks ago on tv here when Armenia played Portugal.

Never will go down as one of the Aberdeen great managers, but coming in straight after Fergie was going to be tricky.

Wow I was unaware of his illness but saw Highlights of that Armenia game.

As do supporters of other teams like my own Killie. Ian Porterfield was an absolute gentleman...a lovely guy who will be sadly missed.

Did he not survive a plane crash where most of his international team were killed? Then to be got by cancer - what an absolute bastard that is. R.I.P.

As has been said Porterfield had an impossible task taking over from Fergie, and co-incidentally as the Murray/Penis revolution at Greyskull changed Scottish football forever. Don't actually think on reflection he did that badly during his time at Pittodrie, and in all reality at a different time would probably have been a winner here.

 

May he rest in peace.....

He signed Charlie Nic for us, something I'll be eternally grateful for as some of my favourite Dons memories came from watching Champagne Charlie.

Can't say I'll have overly fond memories of his time as our manager (though as has been pointed out any manager would've struggled & many more have since to fill Fergie's shoes), but still noone deserves to go that way. RIP Mr Porterfield.

 

Have to agree with BobbyBiscuit though- what a signing Charlie Nicholas was for us, so for that alone I'm grateful to him.
