  1. Totally!!! Must admit, if she was representative of our support I for one would be going to many more games!
  2. I'm v doubtful we'll have a chance at a Euro spot... 4 games before the split: Hibs(a), Well (a), ICT(h) and Celtic (a). how many points do you think we'll manage to collect. Then look at Utd: Celtic(h), Hibs(h), Hamilton(a), Killie(h) Hibs: us(h), Utd(a), St Mirren(a), Rangers(h) <- perhaps our saving grace! Well: Killie(a), Us(h), Rangers(a), St Mirren(h) Don't know about you guys, but I'm far from confident we'll be in the right half of the league to go for europe come the split. Long story short, after the Celtic game we put our feet up thinking 'job done'. The huns were there for the taking & we did nothing.... after that it's been steadily downhill
  3. I think the word that sums this all up is apathy. Yes I'm gutted that we're out, but in all honesty I have this gut feeling that even if we'd made it through tonight we'd have screwed it up against Falkirk. No disrespect to any of the teams we've faced & to Falkirk, but could you honestly ask for a more favourable route to a final?? And I hate to pose more negative thoughts here guys, but you're all talking of finishing 3rd/4th. Our next 2 games are away to Hibs (where we have an amazing ability to chuck leads) and away to Motherwell- both of these teams are tucked right behind us. Next up is ICT who you may have noticed are fighting for their lives & picking up points..... and right after that a wee trip to Parkhead. Not sure about anyone else, but I'm not overly confident we're gonna be in the right part of the league to worry about Europe come the split. [i refuse to use the phrase "top six" as this is seen as some sort of achievement if it is "won"] Do I think JC has had his time? YES! Tonight was the last straw. Sometimes you've just gotta go route one & get a big guy up there- and play either Mackie or Maguire off of Wright hoping to use their pace for flick ons. Smith was bloody awful- continually trying to beat a player too many! Just seemed to me that when Wright did eventually come on it was for the wrong uy. Aluko is the only player we have capable of getting to the byeline & getting a ball over. Don't think there is any chance Calderwood will go before the season ends, but I'm hopeful that we'll have a fresh face in for next season. I could just about handle the level of pish he spouts in the press & hios Rangers love-ins if he succeeded in his role.... and by that I don't mean pushing for the league & a cup win every season or so. In 5 seasons, we've qualified for Europe once & I've lost count of the cup embarassments. This bafoon was talking himself up recently & linking himself with jobs here & there. Do us a favour Jimmy & get tae.... please!
  4. This was the 1st footie game that I ever got taken along to see.... and in all my years I've never enjoyed a match quite as much (though a 3-1 win at Tynecastle when Deano got a Hearts boy (Bruno?) sent off & a penalty through "gamesmanship" ranks a close second). It was just before my 7th birthday & remember being scared shit-less... dare say my old boy a little more so as we were sitting in the main stand & I was cheering the goals in. Come to think of it, I'm really not sure how we got out of there alive. Away to watch & enjoy it all again
  5. i.e. there is no fucking story! The boy was having a bit of banter with a mate of his & all of a sudden this is "news". Had Maguire reacted when that jolly decent young scallywag Ferguson had him by the throat (which would have been reason enough without these "pre-match boasts") then there might be some merit to the story. Instead he chose to laugh in the face of a guy that should've known better than let an 18yr old wind him up by niggling at him as the ball went out of play. You almost feel as if the Record are raging that there is no real story.... imagine the mayhem had he reacted to the choke-hold & lamped the p**** (it was Fergie that was the p**** wasn't it??) & then this "story" had broke! Had Maguire sat in a press conference before the Rangers game & said "That fud Ferguson & the tit Hutton be warned because this scrawny wee fucker is out to get you" then there is a story. A pretty laughable one considering his size & the stupid blonde hair, but a story none-the-less. He didn't though! Maguire should know better than to make comments like this when they can (and will) be dragged up by the gutter press. However I have no problem with him winding these guys up On a totally different note, it was interesting to witness the actions of both Hutton & Ferguson on Sunday , which would in NO WAY suggest that either was in any way a p**** or a ****! I take it that the Rangers Supporters boy had a go at both of these players for their stupidity (with all the medals & experience that they've gained playing at Mordor) in costing his side a victory??
  6. Can't really see him coming back up the road so soon. To be honest though the reported £1 million fee is small change compared to the rest of their summer signings. If he's not going to cut the mustard there & Keane decides to get rid then I really can't see them holding out for mega-bucks. Yes the million pounds is a significant amount to us, but with the money teams in that league generate through the gates & from TV it's bugger all! As much as I'd like to see him back at the heart of defence, our financial position means we can't (and shouldn't!!) go out looking to pay big money (in our terms) for players. Diamond & Considine are both younger & already in place. The way ahead for Aberdeen is bring through players & maybe buying in young potential... we can't afford to pay the money for guys like Anderson in my opinion. And if Ando is croked & maybe a long-term thing then that million pound is looking like a decent fee... I hope it's not the case & he goes on to establish himself there, just saying if it were the case...
  7. Was it no that Bohemians player that scored an OG for us in Dublin??
  8. I'm a little confused... has Aberdeen or indeed his own house moved since he signed for us resulting in the 2 being further apart?? Now I'm not against players wanting to move on if their unhappy (in principle) or in the example of Brewster... but I'll be raging if Aberdeen let one of our best players move onto one of our main competitors (lets say for arguments sake Killie, Hibs or Hearts) when he's under contract! Weakening our squad & strengthening an opponents in one easy step
  9. Can't say I'll have overly fond memories of his time as our manager (though as has been pointed out any manager would've struggled & many more have since to fill Fergie's shoes), but still noone deserves to go that way. RIP Mr Porterfield. Have to agree with BobbyBiscuit though- what a signing Charlie Nicholas was for us, so for that alone I'm grateful to him.
  10. As much as I agree with you re Hart being good enough for Scotland, there are a few problems with him being called up: first & foremost Hutton and Whittaker at Rangers will ALWAYS be included before him. I'm not saying that they're better, but trust me they'll be further up the pecking order. In all honesty, I'm not sure I really want Hart getting that recognition from a selfish point of view: yes it's good for the player & the club's standing.... but at the end of the day it will mean an increased exposure & prob the Dons needing to shell out more on wages than they previously needed to! All that said Hart, Nicholson & Clark are musts to re-sign. Maguire seems a decent prospect & likewise should be retained. Diamond has started the season (a real make or break one in my book) v well & looks like one to be kept. The other 5 guys I wouldn't be overly bothered if we lost. Lovell is a frustration as we paid decent money for him, but has struggled with injury & form. Think he'll be offski through his own choice- but would be good if he put himself in the shop window by helping us out 1st. Langfield & Soutar are both capable goalies. No more, no less. If we keep em fair enough... if we lose em then there are plenty of a similar standard milling about. Langfield must be for the off though if Calderwood is still the boss next term. Byrne is a guy that gets slated alot. Haven't seen enough of him to make a judgement. He's always injured, but then so was Touzani last yr & that resulted in a 2yr deal... so god knows! In my book he seems injury-prone so not worth the risk to be honest. Lee Miller is another I can take or leave. Fully expect him to delay any "talk on his future" until late into the season & put in a similar end of season that he did with Hearts when his contract was up in order to get another move. Like Lovell I won't be bothered if he does his bit, puts himself in the window, and moves on... with any luck they may have put us into Europe again? In all honesty though, I do feel that Aberdeen need to offer more than 2 yr deals which seems to be the max these days. Just seems every summer its either one half or the other that's out of contract. That way when we do have a desirable player we have a bit of an advantage to get a decent fee... just a thought
  11. I hear what you're saying guys, and yes at times he was having to check back to avoid the offsides... but other times he was just not showing any desire to make the runs. It's so frustrating to watch at times when there's an obvious pass or run to make (easy to spot when you're in the stand right enough!) & things just don't work out. Still maintain the miss in the first half was a shocker, but it was the one in the 2nd that dis-heartened me. It was on the angle a bit, but it was the sort of chance that had Lovell scored his confidence would've soared & we all know that strikers always go on about it being a confidence business. That said I'm happy for him to be given a wee run in the team & see if that brings the goals. Fingers crossed! At the end of the day it was most important just to chalk up our first win- after that 1st season with Ebbe I'm always relieved when the first goal, clean sheet, point & win are on the board! Like you say, with any luck we can build on it... just typical there's the international break now! We've played most of the harder teams, so hopefully there's some points to be won when the league re-starts
  12. The first half was absolutely god-awful. The Lovell chance didn't look as bad (the open goal header) at the game, but was an absolute shocker having seen it back. In fact his performance in general was terrible. Complete lack of desire to drive into the box when we were going forward & close players down. Criticise Mackie for what you want but he'd at least be willing to get himself in there in these scenarios. 2nd half was alot better. The opening 20mins or so of it we created several good chances & really should've been more than one up. Some v poor finishing (Lovell in particular here) coupled with bad luck meant a nervous close to the match. Still, overall I felt we deserved the points
  13. To go slightly off topic, I think Jamie Smith has been a massive let-down since his first 4 or 5 months at Aberdeen. That 1st season he was pretty much the driving force of anything creative, and I remember thinking he'd do even better when we had better players alongside him... Yes he's struggled with illness & injuries, but had it not been for that explosive initial impact I wouldn't be too upset if he moved on. As far as Clark is concerned, he's a player I think does a solid- if unspectacular- job. Anderson was (by a country mile!) our best player for 2-3 seasons, but after him it was much of a muchness. Personally I'd opt for Severin (the midfield variety) as our current "best player", but happily we don't seem to rely upon 1 or 2 key players in my view & have decent depth in our squad
  14. Foster is a player I've liked ever since he came into the team, so I'm chuffed we've got him on a new deal! However, it seems odd that whenever we offer new contracts it's usually 2yr max though- hardly leaves us in a position to demand a decent fee if/ when we decide to sell him on. Foster was pretty much a 1st choice last season (and is also 'versatile' which is the main thing under JC) so why only for 2yrs? (unless of course that's all he wanted) Anyways, here's hoping we can get the likes of Mikey Hart & Lovell signed up before long too
  15. During his first spell he summed up everything that was wrong with Aberdeen players of that time, and frankly I'm amazed that any SPL club would sign him! In fact, does this not mean that JC has signed him twice?? Like folks have been saying I presume it's only as a "squad player", but even then would we not be better chucking in a youth player in times of an emergency & finding out whether or not they can cut the mustard? Just see this as a totally pontless signing, but I do love the irony of him leaving the Dons for higher wages & presumably now re-signing on a fraction of what he was on before! Darren was always more capable as a footballer, which in itself again sums up the quality of players we had around that time. Oh well, for every decent signing we appear more than capable of signing an absolute stinker... just hope now that we don't end up selling on one of our 1st choice strikers such as Lovell (as has been rumoured for large chunks of the summer) as the shit would hit the fan then! Totally un-inspiring signing, but you won't hear me (or any other dons fan!) complain if by some miracle he does something decent this time around!
