Can't remember if there was a specific film thread so here goes.

Anyone been/going to the cinema to see anything in particular?

I've been to see Inception and Toy Story 3 recently. Both were fantastic. Saw Toy Story in 3D but I'm not overly sure that it was necessary, but that doesn't detract from the fact that it was a great film. Fitting way to end the trilogy

Sadly this future started quite a while ago. I miss the days of watching things on set days, then chatting about them at work, and looking forward to 'next week'. What an old man thing to say.

  • No one watch films anymore 🤔 Ten months and no posts 😲 Watched "I Swear" last night. A true story of tourettes sufferer John Davidson from Galashiels. Starting with him going to seconda

Or on Topic 😆. They were brilliant. I’m all in on anything with a peanut slant. Used to love a Nutty. Star Bars are the absolute bollox. But you should try The Holdovers too. Phew, back on films.

Currently enjoying a guilty pleasure in The Holiday. Without Jack Black it’s not much shakes but alright for a bit of lightweight winter caper.

Never heard of the film, but respect the choice of a Star Bar.

A lovely piece of confectionery and been banging the drum of old skool chocolate bars for the past few years.

I'm still reeling about the demise of Red Bounties and Topics, so doing my best to keep demand of old skool bars alive.

Apologies for hijacking the thread and taking it off topic!

So I am a guy in my sixties and sorry for saying this but what the fuck is a red bounty, can honestly say I have never heard of this piece of confectionery 🤔

Really? You know what a Bounty is, surely?

Well the red wrapper was the dark chocolate version.

The said back in 2021, the were stopping production, due to the global shortage of coconut and then sneakily put out a press release, 18 months later, saying they had been discontinued.

They did the same with Topics.

Folk would rather eat American peanut butter bars now.

I didn't even get the chance to stockpile any.

😭

Genuinely still don't recollect ever seeing them.

Maybe they were a Granite City delicacy and didn't make there way to the west of Scotland, a bit like decent butteries 😪

Only had the Mars bar and Marathon deep fried, never fancied a deep fried Bounty.

So films then....

Latest 'Knives Out' passes the time

Recently picked up 'Angel-A', 'To Live and Die in LA', and 'Born on the Fourth of July'.

The latter only leaves 'Hamburger Hill' in the list of Vietnam films Ive yet to see.

To Live and Die in LA features an extremly young Willem Defoe which I found a bit surreal.

Angel-A has beem on the list since I saw the poster at the Belmont but Film4 etc never seemed to show it (Leon, and the fifth element meeting their Luc Besson quota)

'The Naked Lunch' and 'Mullholland Drive' also added to the collection but no idea when ill get time to watch them

I got A Hard Day's Night on DVD out of a charity shop last week for 50p. Great film.

Just think, when it came out in 1964, for 50p you could get a bus to the cinema, two tickets to the film, chips and a bottle of Bon Accord ale afterwards and the bus home, and still have enough change to put a deposit down on a three bedroom house.

Changed days.

Was at the pictures today, seeing a film call Marty Supreme

Story about an American Table Tennis champion and based on a true story.

Wasn't a bad film, but would have preferred to watch at home instead of going to the pictures to see it.

It was set in the 1950s, but the music used throughout was all 1980s. I don't personally see the point of doing that.

I saw The Voice of Hind Rajab last night.

Chilling, I have no words really, came away angry at a world that allows the killing of children and the bombing of ambulances.

I'm a big fan of the older films. No excessive gore, no over the top profanity and no full frontal nudity. I could quite probably watch Lawrence of Arabia on repeat until I eventually fall asleep.

I went to see Is This Thing On? at the talkies the other week.

I thought it was pish. Two stars out of five.

Is that the thing based on John Bishop's life? He does nothing for me.

And his acting roles are dreadful. He's not actually in it though is he?

Or have I got the wrong film?

One Battle After Another

Film with Decaprio and Sean Penn, about a group of revolutionaries who are getting chased by the law, after many years in hiding.

Not bad, very slow to begin with and glad I didn't go to the pictures to see it.

I've started going to the cinema a lot more these days, may even get an Odeon card.

Went to see Crime 101 last night.  It started of quite well but turned in to a poor mans Heat.

I didn't see the point in Barry Keoghans character which is a shame as I thought that particular plot line could have made for good viewing.

Watchable but it doesn't really pull you in.

Saw a trailer for Fuze about a London based heist with an unexploded WW2 bomb thrown in as the ultimate distraction.  Looks good, I will pop along to watch that.

It is based on his story of how he became a comedian. It's an American film, though. He is not in it.

Just finished watching Truth & Treason. Not too bad.

Just finished watching:

Das Boot (Theatrical version) - very good or should I say sehr gut.

TV Series :

The Night Agent. Three seasons.

Extremely good.

This furore over the admittedly dodgy word a lad with tourettes syndrome shouted out at the BAFTA's.

I'm noticing an awful lot of naked hate being aimed towards a man who literally can't help having said what he did. People who are fierce anti-racist advocates indulging in very open and ugly ableism.

It's all very telling.

Those who are giving him grief should watch the film and the documentaries about him over the years.

I remember when Tourette's used to be funny.
