Holy Mother of Jesus: AWPR Approved

Although I dare say we will be waiting another 10yrs for them to actually build the fucker:

Aberdeen bypass given green light

The controversial Aberdeen bypass has been approved by ministers.

The Scottish government has given the project the go-ahead after considering the findings of a local inquiry. Industry figures welcomed the decision on the £295m-£395m project, which is aimed at easing traffic and improving business in the north east.  But opponents have criticised the cost and the environmental impact of the 28-mile bypass. Campaign group Road Sense said it would take legal advice.

The planned bypass is aimed at providing a fast link between towns to the north, west and south of Aberdeen.  Subject to all the approvals being met, work could get under way in 2011. Finance Secretary John Swinney said: "This has been a complex issue in which there has been a wide range of issues to consider. "There has also been significant public interest in the proposed route, with clear arguments on both sides.

"Having given careful consideration to the issues and arguments, I agree with the reporters' findings and reasoning, and with their recommendation to proceed with the bypass."  He said the bypass was one of the most important infrastructure projects in the north east, bringing a range of substantial benefits to the region. Mr Swinney said it would reduce congestion in the heart of the city as well as remove thousands of vehicles from the area's rural roads.

Aberdeen North SNP MSP Brian Adam said it was the "best possible early Christmas present for residents and businesses in the north east".  Aberdeen Central Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald welcomed the decision, but called for assurances about project funding, no delays, and stressed the need for better rail and bus services.

And West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine Lib Dem MSP Mike Rumbles said it was a "vital transport project".  Bob Collier, chief executive at Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, said: "Democracy has now run its course and we would ask any protest groups to think very carefully before taking any action that might delay this investment which has the full support of the vast majority of local businesses and residents."

Councillor Kevin Stewart, chairman of regional transport partnership Nestrans, described it as a "defining moment" for the local infrastructure. And Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) north east manager Ian Armstrong said it would "boost economic recovery and confidence".

However, Road Sense spokeswoman Sheona Warnock said the group was extremely disappointed at the decision and expected there would be grounds for a legal challenge, including a judicial review. She predicted that would cause significant delays to the project. Friends of the Earth has joined Road Sense in claiming the building of the new road could mean Scotland failing to meet its climate change targets.  Scottish Green MSP Patrick Harvie said: "This Scottish government either doesn't understand climate change or doesn't care about it." And Transform Scotland said the project would do nothing to address the key traffic congestion issue in Aberdeen.

The Scottish government said the country could hold its head high at having the most ambitious climate change legislation in the world, and having the determination to implement the targets.  Campaigners also recently criticised the £51m cost of moving the International School of Aberdeen to make way for the road.  A long-running public inquiry was held in Aberdeen last year. The Scottish Government said the probe was necessary because of the public response. Story from BBC NEWS:

NE = Backwards.

NE = Backwards.

Just because we're getting some shitey horrifically expensive construction in the heart of our city that we don't need but we're still humming and heying about a bridge that we've needed for fucking ever that costs a fraction of the price of UTG?

That could be part of it, yes.

In a not unrelated story......

So how long will this take?

Take it they've given up on the new Brig o Dee bridge then?

The decision will allow the local authority to proceed with the £15.8million project, which has been mooted in various forms since the 1960s.

City bypass appeal flawed from start, says judge

By Ryan Crighton

Published: 28/03/2012

Scottish judges found that William Walton’s appeal against the Aberdeen bypass was flawed from the beginning.

Lords Clarke, Bonomy and Philip ruled against him at the Court of Session last month, saying the basis of his case was “misconceived”.

They also said Mr Walton was “not entitled” to halt the project in the circumstances, because he does not live close enough to the route.

Well there's a fucking surprise  :wanker:

RESSURE group RoadSense will launch a fresh court challenge to the Aberdeen bypass – if it can raise £100,000 in three days.

The Press and Journal can reveal today that the objectors want to take their fight against the city’s Western Peripheral Route to the Supreme Court in London.

The Scottish Government is ready to start building the highway – but a fresh appeal could delay work for years.

It's about time this lot were run out of town  >:D

THE fight against Aberdeen’s bypass is set to continue.

The chairman of opposition group Road Sense is to lodge a challenge at the UK Supreme Court within the next few days.

The decision could result in a further delay of up to nine months in building the 28-mile dual carriageway.

I hope this cunt can sleep easy at night.  I'm surprised he makes it to the shops without somebody starting on him.

Can they send him the bill for the inevitable massive over spend?

Must have happened already. I feel like driving to his hoose right now for a square go.  :hammer:

Third appeal lodged by William Walton according the the P&J. The Scottish Government has confirmed that the scheme is once again on hold.

:hammer: x a fucking million.

Just build the fucker then let them complain

Can anyone summarise his actual objections to the project

Is his house being cleared Arther Dent style?

Is his business or land being swallowed up?

I ask because the press reports I see merely state he thinks the public either werent consulted properly or the route is flawed. If it is the latter has be proposed an alternative route which will meet all his criteria or is he just against completley against it ergo likes the congestion at the Hadigan roundabout, Brig o Dee, Anderson Drive etc etc

It seems the latest appeal is in his name only so does that mean his Road sense cronies have abandoned him?

This reminds me of the boy who challenged Aberdeen councils proposal to put wheelie bins on the streets to stop seagulls tearing up the bin bags. Said they were ugly etc and eventually won some sort of victory in the courst meaning the Wheelie bins were not installed on his street. A couple of months later when the seagulls seemed to have bought flats in the street and turned it into a landfill he went crawling back to the council who told him he'd have to personally pay for each bin.

Nah Road Sense are still behind him apparently. I seem to remember him moaning his hoose was too close but apparently a previous appeal was thrown oot because the judge decided he didn't live close enough to the planned route.

Yeh he's not personally affected by it. He is a professional objector.

I think there are flaws with the design (round about at Stonehaven ffs) but not enough to stop the fucking thing getting built.

Yeh he's not personally affected by it. He is a professional objector.

Jesus. What a prize cunt that guy really is.  :hammer:

This.

I believe they are objecting this time on a point of principle. Apparently Tavish Scot forced through this route so as not to affect another lib dum (nicol steven) property. Ergo their arguement is the cosultation process is null and void.

Forgetting that in the meantime everyone in the NE has to suffer

A 'grade A' cunt indeed

WILLIAM Walton’s appeal against the Aberdeen bypass appeared to be all but over last night after a court order left his legal team on the verge of quitting.

Supreme Court judges have agreed to shield the university lecturer from the majority of the Scottish Government’s legal bill – which is expected to reach £80,000 – if he loses in his third attempt to stop the £400million road.

But in a shock twist, the order they made also limited the amount the government has to pay – a decision that means Mr Walton will be able to hire only one advocate instead of two.

In the Supreme Court today.
