Queen of the South v Aberdeen

It's a long trip down to Dumfries for Aberdeen this coming Wednesday as they take on Queen of the South in the League Cup. It begins at 7:45 pm.

Victory will seal qualification for the knockout rounds, and I think we will do it with a scrappy 1-0.

Actually think we will win this one a wee bit more comfortably than the last 2 games.
0-3 the Dons Nisbet, Smith and Lyons

Another trip that if it had been a Saturday I would have made but not possible to get there by public transport mid week even from Capital. Game on tv so at least have option to watch it. Plastic pitch might be a bit of a leveller but despite not seeing much to impress on Saturday I think we should still have to much for a league 1 side. Would not be playing Mayo at right back as looked every inch a centre back playing out of position on Saturday.

Completely agree about Mayo, he's been decent at CH but didn't offer anything from RB going forward. Devlin and Lobban definitely better options unless we are planning to defend for 90 minutes

One thing about Saturday was the lack of anything off the bench. It reminded me of last season where when we were doing nothing in the game, you knew that there was very little other than more of the same to come on. Obviously Briedl was decent when he came on, but I'd like to think that we'd see him starting soon.

First time down there since the cup game many years ago when there was two Andy Gorams in nets for them. Think it was probably early 2000's

Would have thought Lobban would be more than enough at this level of opposition. Think Mouloua will offer something when he settled. Like Briedl he might be a medium term starter. Suspect it’ll be another 3/4 games before this team gels.

It’s a shame because Palmerston is one of the better away days in Scotland. Not at that time on a Wednesday though

4-0 us. Goals from some new folks, Nisbet chipping in with one. 4 different scorers.

How come we get away trips to Brora and Dumfries whilst Dundee Utd get drawn against Montrose and Arbroath (and Stirling and Edinburgh)! That's rhetorical, no need for answers on postcards.

I really really really do hope* that our supporters will refrain from crooning the rather unkind comment about the fragility testing of Connor Barron’s lower limbs as they did the last time we raised the collective IQ of Dumfries for three hours by our attendance.

*my fingers are crossed (behind my back, like)

Trying to keep my calendar clear to be able to watch at least some of this. I’ve no idea what to expect, regardless though we should be seeing of league 1 opposition comfortably. Will we ever see Marshall in red do we think?

Rumoured to be going out on loan.

If true, no idea how our kids will ever get first team chances.

If they aren't getting minutes against lower league teams, in the league cup, they have little chance in the league.

Think SR is planning to make changes but it’s about getting minutes into players who are expected to be starters like Briedl and Mouloua and protecting those who aren’t up to speed yet.

Robinson said he wants a 23 man outfield squad with 3 goalies in his presser today. Our first team is below and runs to 31 players. It does seem like Mitov will leave so that would leave Müller, Suman and Vitols for the 3 goalies and I don't think you can really call Ambrose a first team squad member anymore so that would leave 29. Milanovic seems likely to move so there's 28. From the rest of the squad Frame is rumoured to be away, certainly looks like one of him or Gyamfi will be with the signing of obi-2 anyway. So that's probably 27. Marshall on loan would be 26,if we can shift Palaversa that's 25 and I'm sure the club is likely still looking for a final Yengi solution so maybe even down to 24 which would mean two more in the door. One will clearly be a winger but I would hope the other would also be some form of versatile attacking midfield option as we seem pretty well stocked for FB, CB, DM, CM and CF

Another rumour that's doing the rounds, is that we have offered Devlin to a few clubs, to see if any takers.

Hopefully we keep him, as I still think he is a capable player.

Guess there’s also the chat about Milne which would further reduce the squad numbers. Wonder if we just cancel the contracts of some of those who really don’t have a future. It’s weird how long the Milanovic transfer has taken, as far as I’ve seen, nothing has been confirmed? I still maintain that I’d be amazed if we received money for him. If anything, we can’t have paid them up front for him.

I hope it's warmer in Dumfries tonight than it was in Brora last Tuesday!

Lewis Smith is missing from that list so presumably 32. Although could argue Tobers and Knoester count as half each.

Mitov can go if he wants. I’ll not lose any sleep if Devlin goes as long as we sign a proper RB. Think we’ve had the best of him now.

If the young lads aren’t gonna get a game, get them out on loan. Disappointing to not see one or two getting a chance though - Marshall especially.

If we could punt/release Ambrose, Molloy, Palaversa, Milanovic, Yengi, Gyamfi & Milne, that would be a good summers work for me…

Fair play on your attempts to bring the word "goalies" back into fashion.

Robinson spoke about Marshall yesterday :-

"Marsh has gone out on loan, he has to now come in and be better than what is in front of him.

"That is the reality of being a first team footballer, it is not the democratic society of Aberdeen where everybody gets equal game time.

"You have to be better than the person in front of you.

"Ultimately, they have to play football, developing isn't sitting on a bench, so I think the club do this really well with the loan system they have, and we will continue to do that, and we will look at those boys come the end of August and 'do they need to go out on loan again? Do they need to develop further ?.

"We are talking about very, very young boys with little experience, and to play for Aberdeen you need that mentality, you need that backbone, you need the experience of playing football matches.

"You only gain it by playing, so we will look at that very closely, and Marsh will be one of those players as well."

What’s the story with Devlin and Frame?

Is the line up listed in order? It's not by numbers and it's not be alphabetical order, so is it by position?

If so, is that Lyons at right back? And is it a 4-2-3-1 rather than 4-3-3?

That's what I was going to ask! Think it's a 4-3-3 with Lyons at fullback.

Is it not the order that it comes out of the tombola…
