Mexico and South Africa start off the World Cup tonight at 8 pm, and that's followed by South Korea v Czechia at 3 am. Both games are in Group A.

I think a home win and a draa in those games.

I have little time for international fitba, even more so since it now affects the domestic game with its unnecessary match cancellations, which is all I give a flying fuck about.

I watched about an aggregate 6 matches all told, and I’m as happy as a dog with twa cocks that it’s done. The Yank influence on it, occurring in the future, will see me even more disconnected. 1966 is still my favourite World Cup - 16 teams, 4 groups, all over in 19 days. Exclusively about the fitba.

I thought it was a great World Cup. I wasn’t planning on watching a lot, I don’t watch a much football now other than the dons, partly due to family but also because I find many games boring. The World Cup had a lot of exciting games and a lot of late drama.

48 teams was good, didn’t like the 3rd place qualification crap and want a 64 team tournament. 16 groups, top 2 advance to the round of 32. There are so many more countries, teams like Italy and Denmark missed out, wales and maybe Ireland, all are certainly good enough. Africa has quality teams and in North America it’s no longer just Mexico every 4 years, Canada, the us, and Panama are good enough.

Teams like Haiti and Cape Verde, dare I say even Scotland, added to the occasion, there’s enough good teams to make it a good competitive ‘world’ tournament. We have very few high scoring blow outs.

Lots of late drama, were 5 subs and water breaks a positive factor there? Did we have fresher and more energetic players giving more at the end of games?

Was not a fan of the half time show, said that earlier. The commentator said it was just over 10 mins longer than normal. Is that really a big deal? Playing in the heat and humidity, maybe the players appreciated the rest/recovery extra time.

There’s no perfect host, saying that loud and clear. But USA does a tremendous job with sport and entertainment. Outstanding facilities and perfect pitches, even indoor stadiums. Great venues. Kudos to Mexico and Canada too, that’s a hell of an event to host.

There’s will always be criticism of hosts, Mexico with drugs, Qatar with their beliefs, Brazil being a third world country blowing billions on stadiums that are never used for example, no need to go there, just enjoy the occasion in my opinion. The world isn’t perfect, what an event for so many to enjoy!

It’s brilliant I just hope the rest of South American teams decide to copy them. Uruguay disgraced themselves.
