A huge game for our fading hopes of the league title; lose this one and we can't mathematically win the league.

It happens at the Pink Bus Shelter in Edinburgh on Saturday 28th at 3 pm.

I'm not sure how this will go. Probably 2-0 to the hosts.

Watching that today felt like watching a Barry Robson team. Was a lot of long balls that didn't really have much purpose behind it. Hearts played the same way at times, and it was a rubbish game for the neutral, but Hearts are a bit more adept at it and had players they actually found with their passing. 

Then, late on, we were just knocking it around our back line and going nowhere.

The main difference (among many failures for us) was Hearts' positioning. They knew when to double up on a player, when they passed they found players in space (space we gave them because our positioning was so bad), they just had players in the right position while we look so badly coached.

 

Positives (few, but there were some). Some of Mitov's goal kicks were poor but generally thought he played well. He's still our number one in my eyes. Frame was hitting the byline well when he came on. Nilsen played okay. Also thought Nisbet played as well as he could with no service, but as @RicoS321 pointed out, twice he was screaming for the ball in a great position and someone else made the wrong decision (I actually think it may have been three times as Frame couldn't find him late on when he had made an intelligent run).

Geiger overreacts, but why do it in the first place? You've won an important match and are nine games away from becoming a legend at Hearts and probably Scottish football. Enjoy it.

According to some Hearts fans, he also made some derogatory comments about Aberdeen in midweek at a supporters event.

Bit needless and a fine way to lose goodwill with a club who gave him an opportunity in 2013, treated him very well and paid him handsomely for the privilege.

Think I also prefer Mitov,unsettled defence in front of him doesnt help.Ideally an experienced unit beside either Milne or McIntyre to bring them on. Frustrating to not be getting the best out of Nisbet while he looks in the mood but others on a different wavelength

Meh, he brushed past the guy. Geiger was shite yesterday, and he started tanking around hacking at folk. He's lucky he didn't get a second yellow after the game and needs to sort his shit out.

You see this is a penalty. It's given and there's a very real possibility we at least get a draw away from home against a team that has been on top of the league table all season.

People really need to stop watching games already having decided we're shite and the players are all shite.

It's simply not true.

That is not a penalty. Just two players coming together and one going down easily.

Genuinely don’t think that was a penalty. Don’t get me wrong I shouted for it at the game but on watching it back Armstrong goes down very easily from what is a coming together nothing more. It’s a contact sport and not all contact is a foul.

I guess the difficulty here is the penalty Dundee got against us. In my head if a player deliberately gets in front of a player who is travelling forward and initiates contact it’s not a foul. Both the Dundee penalty and the Armstrong one are not penalties but one is given. This is the problem.

It's not much of a problem though is it?

The ref had already given a pen in the Dundee incident. 

The two incidents are similar-ish, but not exactly the same.

Armstrong is already falling over and receives little to no contact.

Most importantly, that we got a penalty given against us that our manager doesn't believe was a penalty doesn't mean we should get one that is also never a penalty.

Not a significant problem no but a frustration that in the modern game you can force that play, the rules are unclear and most importantly not applied consistently by the officials or VAR. I doubt there is much to be gained by debating the inconsistencies in officiating, it’s been done.

I just noticed he wasn't on the bench yesterday.

I had assumed, he was just dropped for Mitov.

I've never understood the expectation, and constant call - mainly by pundits and idiot managers - for consistency. It makes no sense. Ironically, it's likely the cause of most of the issues we see. It's created this ridiculous scenario where we strip incidents of all context, all deliberateness, and package them all neatly into a particular "type" of foul or punishable crime. No incident is the same, and the motivations and actions of the players involved are very often different, and can most often be interpreted best by a referee in real time and at real speed. Asking for consistency across multiple games, at different times, involving different referees and different players is the height of stupidity. It's like asking for consistency between Nisbet firing one in from ten yards, and Olusanya kicking it with his standing foot first from exactly the same spot.

That’s fine in a pre-VAR world where games were officiated in isolation to some extent. Even then there were still ‘rules’ being applied, there was just a lot more interpretation allowed. VAR has almost enforced a level of scrutiny and specific clarification of what constitutes a foul in granular detail. On top of that, we now have officials who are either not willing or not able to referee the game in front of them so we are operating with a different set of standards that lean towards consistency of application. I’m not a fan of the current situation and would gladly see us revert back but I’m not willing to accept that I’m an idiot for hoping for the rules to be applied consistently either.

Just BIN VAR it's been a massive failure if reducing controversy was ever it's intended goal.

For me it's been introduced with the purpose of entertaining armchair fans. Probably at the behest of the TV companies who now have a massive say in the game.

The in your recliner chair experience is admittedly quite good especially if you're watching a game as a neutral. However the in the stadium experience is entirely different and not in a good way.
