It was me trying to be funny about him telling the clubs how many minutes they need to give youngsters. I'll work on my delivery.

I actually met him yesterday and got to see the presentation he did to the clubs. Was interesting.

Really hoped that getting Lutz onboard would be the springboard for positive change in our club, as it is his appointment and all that has followed in a sporting sense has been an unmitigated disaster.

Lutz should've punted Thelin long before he actually was and due to the timing of his sacking it left us ill equipped in the Jan transfer window, the next sequence of events were straight out of the Cormack handbook and ended with the panic appointment of Robinson months after Thelin departed. Robinson, a manager that no fan wanted, was signed purely out of desperation, regardless of the nonsense that Lutz would have us believe, to stop us falling into the play-off spots and had no obvious future planning attached other than having the FMB's collective fingers being crossed that it all works out in the end.

Add in the signings that have Lutz's fingerprints all over them, which I don't think anybody could say have worked out, leave me wondering just WTF was the purpose of his appointment when after a year in the job we are in a worse position on the pitch and also in a worse position with respect to the ill feeling a vast amount of supporters have towards our club.

Lutz only just joined when Thelin was on his death march, it wasn't unreasonable to give them a couple of months together to see if they could improve things.

Robinson wasn't his fault either.

The biggest problem with Lutz is his apparent remit. Given the spate of average players we signed from Germany upon his arrival, it seems that he's been given some form of control over transfers. That's absurd, and not the fault of Lutz, but the guys above him. A sporting director should be ensuring that the manager is held accountable; that we're aligning with strategy; that the messaging between recruitment and the football department is working and they're responding to the request for particular types of player and they understand what is being asked; that the manager can explain his request for players and how they'll fit in to his side; that we have plans B and C in place on the pitch and that we've recruited for that. He should have the final say on players where manager and recruitment team disagree, and offer counsel to players who are unhappy and can't go to the manager. He should definitely, definitely, not be going to his "contacts book" for players or any of that shite.

To cut a long story short then, what is the point of Lutz being at our club if he wasn't fully abreast of Thelin's massive failings that we endured for well over a year bar the cup win? That Lutz was given sway over which players to bring in if it shouldn't be part of his job? That Lutz wasn't responsible for Robinson's appointment? That Lutz has now disappeared off the face of the earth when he was the one making it known to all and sundry when appointed of his face being seen and his voice being heard? Seems to be an extravagant waste of money for someone at our club that apparently does nothing though that could be levelled at lots of people at AFC.

He'd have been aware of Thelin's issues, but it's not unreasonable that he'd want to experience the situation first hand. Sacking the manager a minute after arriving would have been a terrible move, unless it was Robinson, who is universally disliked!

Otherwise, you've ignored what I've said. If Lutz has been given the wrong remit then sacking him will only mean the next guy comes in with the wrong remit. I don't need to hear from our sporting director, it doesn't need to be an outward facing role. The club should have been patient and waited for his manager to come available in my opinion. Let him be judged on actual failure. They panicked and overruled him, but it wasn't an egregious overruling either, and so I can see why he didn't jack it at that point. Like a lot at our club, we seem to get potentially the right people in at the wrong time, without the resources in place to back them and then don't back them as promised and then wonder why it doesn't work out. I'd give Lutz the correct job description and let him fail on his own merit with the new manager.
