OrlandoDon Posted yesterday at 15:48 Report Posted yesterday at 15:48 Not complaining but Morton have been awful. Offered very little. Exactly the game we needed in a way. Quote

wee toon red Posted yesterday at 16:02 Report Posted yesterday at 16:02 Might be jumping to conclusions but neither Polvara or sokler getting on today would suggest they don’t have much of a future with us. Quote

I wouldn’t necessarily say that. You can only make 5 subs, deep bench. At the same time, they are down the pecking order. Quote
wee toon red Posted yesterday at 16:53 Report Posted yesterday at 16:53 (edited) I think that if Polvara especially was going to be needed this would’ve been the day to get him minutes rather than bringing on Shinnie or even clarkson. Edited yesterday at 16:54 by wee toon red Quote
OrlandoDon Posted yesterday at 19:12 Report Posted yesterday at 19:12 Motherwell at home in the next round, not a bad day! Quote
Jute Posted yesterday at 19:58 Report Posted yesterday at 19:58 Thought we did enough to win against a very poor Morton side but not the performance was hoping for. Despite scoring from one felt our set pieces were poor again. Was surprised Polvara didn’t get some minutes ahead of Shinnie. Agree with wee toon that might suggest he is seen as surplus to requirements. Same goes for Sokler. ETA - Decent draw. Home game is best you can hope for at this stage. Quote

I think more likely Thelin was thinking about who is going to start on Thursday, which is why the five guys that came on are all in contention to start, or at least play a big part in the game. Freshened up the team, but still made sure everyone likely to play on Thursday played some part. 2 Quote
Panda Posted yesterday at 20:31 Report Posted yesterday at 20:31 Thought Aouchiche was the man of the match today. Was almost an unsung hero in the way he linked the play and brought others into the game - was what we've been missing. For example, Morris doesn't look that dangerous without him there playing one-twos and moving defenders about. He basically did the job Okkels struggled to do last season, and that Gueye only did in flashes. Off the ball he gets himself into the right positions to be a goal threat too, and I think he'll score a few from midfield this season. Overall it was a game we needed, almost the pre-season game we didn't have. Not perfect, but some good play and a confidence builder for the European matches. Quote
Jute Posted yesterday at 20:39 Report Posted yesterday at 20:39 Agreed on Aouchiche Panda. Meant to say in original post Aouchiche again impressed. He looks a very intelligent player and moves ball well. 2 Quote
manc_don Posted yesterday at 21:03 Report Posted yesterday at 21:03 Hopefully the jump start we needed (or pre season game as panda mentioned). Some much needed confidence for everyone. Know “it’s only Morton”, but you can only beat what’s in front of you and looks like it was a professional performance. Can’t ask for much more than that. Quote

There was one situation in particular when he picked the ball up deep and attacked straight up the middle. Far too often we’d knock it back, square, or send it wide and hope. He’s an aggressive 10 that we’ve badly needed, I like what we’ve seen so far. for this formation to work we need a 9 who can play technically, creating 2v1s with 9 and the wide guys and the 10, or wide guys and 10, as you saw with him and morris. Yengi really struggles to control the ball which makes this hard. He was a little better today though, but from what I’ve seen on YouTube, lazetic seems pretty technical and could make a big difference. 1 Quote
