Scottish Cup final: Aberdeen v Celtic - 24/05

I'll be in a minority that's glad it's Celtic we're playing in the final.

The 2017 final still rankles. We should have done it that day. Shay Logan standing off Stuart Armstrong and letting him hit that equaliser in a half when Celtic offered little. The Jonny Hayes - Kenny McLean mix up that should have given us a second (and to this day I still don't know who to blame).

Beat them on 24 May, win the cup, end a 35-year wait, and do it against a seemingly unstoppable side going for yet another treble. It would be beautiful and would finally put 2017 to bed.

Tickets

I don't actually think we'll sell 21,000. Too many just can't be arsed with what they think (wrongly) will be another defeat to Celtic. So 19,000 probably would do us.

However, it's important that Aberdeen fight for half of the North stand. The way the noise projects around Hampden, you can barely hear the fans behind the goal when you're at the other end. Give us half the north, the west stand, and the lower deck of the south. That's about 19,000 tickets - if we sell out, then give us the rest.

That's the first fight we need to win long before we get to Hampden.

Reminder to all of the super fans that tickets are now on sale. Lesser fans can get there's around 11am.

Ticket system has crashed at the moment. This won’t affect Rico of course as Jimmy dropped his off personally this morning.

He is in for a surprise as hacked the system and I already have the ticket Rico thought he was getting 😂

Obviously I looked after myself first by buying a ticket before coming on here to remind everyone else.

It wasn't working for me either this morning, so I went to the season ticket renewal page, then clicked on tickets from that page, then away matches, and then scrolled down to the cup final from there. I assumed that it was just me having issues.

Server issue seems to still seems to be appearing but method Rico used is still working.

Nice one. Apologies, I would have said earlier if I'd thought it was a universal problem.

Looks like the sales are going well.

It wasn't the easiest to get the actual seat selection to function earlier on Chrome but it worked alright via my phone. Let's hope the good pace of sales keeps up.

Not bad considering it's not even on general sale yet.

This is going to sell out today.

Fucking fantastic effort from us

Tomorrow morning Dave should be asking for extra tickets given The Tims haven't sold any yet 😉

Website claims only 2k left

Hoping there is at least 1 disabled ticket left..

Website is a fucking shambles. Should've had access earlier but wasn't showing available to buy despite having the required points. Then allowed in at five and fuck all works.

Ticket office also shut. Amazing service.

Just let me in with no issues.

Go to Afc.co.uk direct (leave out the /tickets) and follow the link on the home page

A club statement to the effect that we won't be offering down payment in future should be forthcoming, hopefully.

Exactly the same for me, apart from having to use a laptop to get tix at 5 as it didn’t work on the phone. Wonder how many missed out due to the decision to allow people to buy 4.

I had 3 phones ( android and apple) and an iPad. I'm not gonna pretend I had hundreds of points but I was above the limit for 2pm and it didn't let me buy until 5

Then I couldn't see any seats on any device to pick. Just a blank space and green bar where the pitch is.

I'm sure I'll be able to acquire the three I need but it really wasn't good.

Getting tickets for Hampden via the club site has always been shite. I do it on the phone, because Firefox on the laptop can be variable, but you can't expand the view of the seats on the phone so you just have to sort of guess. The "Pitch This Way" bit is useful, I guess, but it's difficult to read the row numbers, and difficult to click on the actual seats you want. As I've done it quite a few times now, I can do it without too much bother, but it could be significantly better. It's like nobody from the club, or SFA, have actually tried buying tickets themselves. Don't get me started on the Hampden app either. What's the fucking deal with the QR codes being tiny, and along the top of the screen? Why can't you click on it to expand the code for quicker and easier scanning (like at Pittodrie, for example)? That said, the transfer of tickets is quite straight forward.

Technically, my 100% record of always being right is still intact as we didn't sell 21,000, but I shouldn't have doubted our support, and I apologise to the 1,200 fans who could have missed out on a ticket if the board had done what they often do and read my posts before making important decisions.

Scandalous decision on ticket split. I have written to Ian Maxwell this morning.

I said earlier that I thought Aberdeen would demand a 50/50 ticket split for the upcoming Scottish Cup Final. I thought that common sense may prevail and Aberdeen would have received around 15,000 tickets, which would have been at least a couple of thousand more than they took to the semi-final. I was quite angry when I heard the SFA decision yesterday, but I suppose not really surprised, Mr Maxwell has been no friend to Celtic during his time, even I think Celtic supported him to get the job.
I have written to him this morning; the letter is below.

Mr Maxwell,
Chief Executive,
Scottish Football Association.

I think the decision taken by the SFA with regard to the ticket split for this year’s Scottish Cup Final was a scandalous decision, and one that is a slap in the face to the supporters of Celtic Football Club, who have been a cash cow for the SFA and Hampden Park for many years. Since the 2017 season, Celtic will have played in fourteen finals, seven Scottish Cup, and seven League Cup, so counting semi-finals twenty eight appearance in total.

In this year’s Scottish Cup Semi-Final Celtic sold in excess of 37,000 tickets, Hearts reported sales of 20,000, Aberdeen 13,000 (at most), and St Johnstone somewhere around 3,000, so Celtic sold more than the other three teams put together, and received 25% of the profit. Just imagine Mr Maxwell if St Johnstone had managed to beat Celtic in the semi-final to play Aberdeen in the final, you wouldn’t have been able to give away more than 30,000 tickets.

Now in the final every Aberdeen supporter who attended the semi-final should be guaranteed a ticket, while around half of the Celtic Supporters who attended the semi-final will be denied the opportunity to get a ticket, is that a fair solution to the problem that is Hampden Park, you could have played the Final at Murrayfield, Celtic would still have sold at least 40,000, Aberdeen would probably be around 15,000. Dave Cormack claimed if the semi-final had been at Peterhead they would have sold their 20,000, well let me tell Mr Cormack this, we visit Aberdeen on Wednesday night of May 14th, there will not be 20,000 Aberdeen fans in attendance that night, although he’ll probably pull the stroke of guaranteeing all in attendance a Cup Final Ticket.

Finally, Mr Maxwell your tenure as head of the SFA has been underwhelming to say the least, imagine if the SFA was run as well as Celtic FC, maybe you wouldn’t need to milk the hand that feeds you so regularly. I also wonder if your favourite team that play in Govan had not got put out of the Cup by Queens Park, and were contesting the final, would Aberdeen be receiving 20,000 tickets? I very much doubt it. I won’t be holding my breath, or wasting my valuable time waiting on a reply from you.
Regards,
Joe O’Rourke,
General Secretary,
Celtic Supporters Association.

Nothing better than seeing the Victims getting wound up

This was 35 years ago today. In fact, with extra-time played, the penalties would have been starting just around now 35 years ago.
