  1. I would be pleased if we signed him, although I do hope that it is so we can move Hart beside Anderson and make a tight defence even tighter. It is a very shrewd signing, especially if he is able to play a holding role.
  2. Old Donstalk would have been bogged down with transfer stories regarding potential new signings. So I will be the first to Bog in a wee while. Lee Mair on board. Anyone know much about this Charlton youngster- Jonathan Kurrant? I hear he has been raisin a few eyebrows. No sour grapes if he doesnt sign but (sorry). Ferrie Bodde seems ace from my Football Manager scouting, which as all old Donstalkers know is the only way to scout out players, but do any of our Eredivisie viewers know anything of him?
  3. Clark is maintaining that he didnt leave the park and it was mistaken identity. Might well have been Mackie who left the field. Can we not appeal it - a la Kingston- just so he can play in the Hun game?
  4. Could any of our current first team even grow a moustache? Even the older lads seem to have that sandy haired, baby faced 'maybe a bit of face fuzz' look.
  5. Gavin Rae is linked to Sheffield Wednesday or Nottingham Forest. What a career move they would be. Probably pay him ten times what we can.
  6. Having him in the squad will be worth giving him a new contract. We do not have an experienced squad at all as Brewster is 13 years older than our next oldest player. Having an old head around is well worthwhile, whether that is on from the start or coming into games late. I am not always convinced starting with Brewster is the best option, but there is no doubt he has helped the cause since he came in.
  7. He is probably the third best keeper in Scotland right now. Read into that whatever you want, but only Boruc and Gordon are better than him. McGregor is a decent shot stopper and nothing more. He is a stop gap at best for Rangers. Which other keeper is of any real standard in the SPL? Langfield has been decent if unspectacular, and considering we dont seem to have any better options...
  8. As amusing as it is I find it quite hard to believe. Whelan and Boksic regularly played together for over 3 years. If this incident did actually happen then it probably happened very soon after Boksic signed, during a season when the pair were regularly partnered up front, although very rarely on consecutive occasions. Hardly surprising when you can call on striking talent like Carlos Marinelli, Hamilton Ricard, Slzard Nemeth and Brian Deane. Middlesbrough were hardly very good at any point during their time at the club, but Whelan and Boksic were first and second top scorers in 2001/02 (with 12 between them, wow). If this story was true then it would make Boksic the biggest hypocrite in football. At the time he signed he was the highest paid player in the Premiership and was roundly rubbish for two seasons.
  9. You can actually get better odds on their being a new manager in charge by the start of next season than you can of the current puppet staying in charge for 4 more months.
  10. I think Langfield is a decent keeper. His late save against Motherwell showed exactly what he is good at. The fact is that we cant get a better goalkeeper within the price range we can afford. What people should take note of here is this is also the price range Rangers can now afford. They will still offer better wages than us, but the days of them signing Champions League winners are long gone.
  11. The latest in a long line... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/h/heart_of_midlothian/6470111.stm Gordon underlining the point again. Apparently he was told they were negotiating his transfer in January. Didnt tell him who to mind...
  12. Considine has been very solid except for the games against Rangers this season. He is far more accomplished on the ball than Diamond and that serves him well in most of the games we play. However, he looks nervous whenever we play the Hun and the fact that Diamond seems to hate them as much as we do suggests he might well be better employed in the games against Rangers.
  13. It was a combination of bad timing, twisted words and Rangers fans finally having something to celebrate. Earlier in the season, a fairly innocuous comment designed to praise a few of Hart's team-mates would probably have been taken as just that. Or at the very worst it would have been used to highlight a Rangers side in turmoil. The fact that this total non-story came out at a time when Rangers have their tails up gave some of the press the opportunity they have been waiting for all season praise the Hun and put the boot in on us. This will no doubt go down as one of those Pittodrie non stories which is recycled for the next 5 years and "never gets tiresome". See also the toaster story. What annoys me most is that what was intended as a way of saying that certain players in the Aberdeen squad are as good as anyone in Scotland (a statement that is certainly true) has turned into a stick to beat some of the players (ie Diamond) with for losing.
  14. Or could be looking to buy a new house in the area, say with a new signing on bonus...
  15. He still hopes to win a contract with us. Maybe a wee spell with Dundee will give an indication of what he can do with a run of games. Not convinced by him though, for a big guy he cant head the ball! But he does always give 110%.
  16. I think folk are being a little over critical of Calderwood here. What youth players had he had a chance to bring through? I would say the only two that have looked worth their salt are Considine (a regular under Jimmy) and MacGuire (knocking on the door age 18). Foster has become an infinitely better player under Jimmy, and we are the only side in the SPL who can regularly field 6 or 7 players to come through our own youth setup. I dont think our youth system is perfect, but Willie Miller sees that as one of our most important development areas and I trust him to deliver in that area. The tried and tested players JC has brought in have been the right players at the right time. If Brewster is to offer us the same next season as he has already this season I would offer him a new contract now. For far too long we had no experience and we finally have a fairly experienced squad. Its not like the side is filled with old players- Brewster is the oldest by 12 years.
  17. I am more worried about a lot of those players not wanting to stick around that I am optimistic about next year. A lot of those players dont have anything to prove and I would be happier for next year if we can secure the likes of Anderson, Hart, Lovell and Nicholson especially.
  18. The guy Hammell who is on loan at Dunfermline from Liverpool. If they were willing to sell him he would be a good signing.
  19. The paper today was saying that the 2 match suspension is just for the 2 yellows. He will be facing an SPL enquiry about his comments (for which the 2nd red was show) on the 1st of May. Typically speedy SPL procedure here. Wait until the end of the season before the player gets his suspension...
  20. Wouldnt go near Jason Scotland. If we do qualify for Europe then we surely need to be looking upwards rather than down the way for new players? I think a striker is probably the least of our worries. A naturally left sided player and a ball winning midfielder with a bit of bite would be my order of the day.
  21. Brewster has been outplaying most of the strikers in the SPL (for workrate anyway) for years though. Its not just our strikers. each striker brings something different. Lovell is by far the most accomplished, but drifts in and out of games. Mackie has pace and determination, but lacks composure. Miller has good control and is good in the air, but is a bit powder puff for a big lad. On a cold Tuesday night in a scrappy SPL match it isnt that surprising that they Dog of War is the best striking option.
  22. Foster has had a few runs where he cuts inside and hits it this season. Granted that they nearly all go a good few feet wide, but it was about time one went it. Great hit. It will give a gloss to an otherwise pretty rotten performance, but hopefully give him some confidence on Saturday.
  23. Anyone know good places to park around Motherwell? I know the town alright but its been years since I had to drive to the game. I cant imagine it will be a huge crowd but any info would be appreciated.
  24. Its not that I dont think we get enough coverage in the media, I am more than happy that we can quietly get along with our own business. It is that Hibs (even under Collins in his new patchwork team) seem to get given praise every week. Kilmarnock have made "huge strides" under Jim Jeffries. At a time when we could seriously do with some money to A. build the squad and B.keep the players we have, we could do with the media giving us a bit more credit so more folk come through the doors. I dont believe for a second that there is any 'West Coast Conspiracy', we just dont seem to have anyone taking us seriously other than Pat Nevin.
