Eoin Jess on stuff and his Best XI
baggy89 replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Are you sure? It would have been 89-90 League Cup with the final being in 1990. Didn't we lose to Rangers in 1989? And had Jess even made his debut by the time of that final? Or through the haze was the league cup played entirely before Christmas in those days? In which case your right and I apologise for questioning you. -
Hud on... Strip Seve of the armband, NOW! Foster for Captain!

Well obviously not Steve Guppy (although he did get an England cap so he must be up there). Ronald De Boer played over 60 matches for Holland including a World Cup Quarter Final, won the champions league with Ajax before playing for Barcelona. So he's certainly up there with Demarcus Beasley Numan has over 40 Dutch caps must have played in the same Quarter Final as De Boer. Klos has a Champions league winners medal with Dortmund Viduka only played in the Semi's of the Champions league I seem to remember Moravcik in my WC '90 stiker album, how old was he at Celtic? He was good though, touch control, vision, wonder why he never played at a higher level? Kanchelskis was replaced by Beckham at Man U, would it be too dissimilar to Ronaldo popping up at Rangers in 6 or 7 seasons time? Cannigia, World cup finalist? Definatley played in 90, OK I suppose 10 years and a lot of drugs later. Berkovic and Petrov out of that lot would be closest in terms of talent to the current old firm squads, so I'll give you them. Although Petrov is currently plying his trade for a top 4 Prem side so that has to make him top 50 at least . I'm not really speculating on who was the better manager though, I certainly didn't like Ebbes first season when we were getting battered by Celtic 7 - 0, avoiding relegation by virtue of league restructuring and the like. On the flip side, like Stoney says, we were in two cup finals, and reached Europe twice, in what three seasons? As opposed to no cup finals and reaching Europe once in 5 seasons. From that point of view I can see why people remember the times fondly. Especialy considering Ebbe had a bit of character too.

Realistically over this season it should have been possible to be a lot closer than we are. I suppose thats fitba though. I don't think we're too many years away from another "New firm" era though. Maybe in the next few seasons we might see that one special* youngster come through along with a couple more consistent performers that might make the difference. *Jess special, not special needs, Ricky Foster, special .

Off the top of my head Larrsson, Berkovic, Viduka, Moravcik, Kanchelskis, Klos, Van Bronkhorst, Numan, De Boer, Canniggia, Petrov and of course Steve Guppy .

I heard after the Hearts game last Saturday Foster got JMG ironed onto his training top, said that the fans expectations are realistic and that he hated the colour Orange, before refusing to give Jimmy his last Rolo.

I don't know why someone from the club hasn't contacted you to offer you a scouting role. Think of the numbers of players you could scout in a week by listening to the radio.

Just watched the match on alba that i'd recorded last night, we were very unlucky IMO. No way should Zander have attempted the back pass for their first but I felt Sandaza pulled Zander back to get in front, then Zander did the same. Definatley six of one half a dozen of the other. Their second, the Scumdee No. 17 was standing on our goal line in what looked like an offside position. How you can't be interfeering with play standing on the goal line is beyond me, especialy as Langfield had to dive round in front of him in an attempt to save the ball.

*edit* It's OK I'm talking shit. -
I'm surprised he remembers where he put his pen these days While waiting in the ariport the other day for someone to arrive, I came across this; http://www.amazon.co.uk/2666-Roberto-Bolano/dp/0330447424/ref=pd_ts_b_55?ie=UTF8&s=books Anyone attempted it? Think I may give it a go.

The amusing thing is over on the hat I don't think anyone had picked up on the Zander comments, they were to busy congratulating Jimmy for saying "Darren Mackie has a lot of things wrong with him"
-
Stolen from the Hat who I'm guessing stole it from Aberdeen journals???
-
How about "If Carlsberg DIDN'T do transfer deals..." I'm hoping the Pittodrie their referring to in the article is the Pitodrie Bar's sunday league side (If they haven't got one I'm hoping they're thinking of starting one for next season).

OH forgot to mention I watch a shitload of Cartoon Network nowadays. Anyone looking forward to the new series of Ben 10 starting Monday?
-
TBF they're going round brewerys, distilleries, vineyards etc. Nae Weatherspons, Liquids, and the like. The rest I probably agree with though. Anyone watch Underbelly on FX? Sat down to watch that Mad Men last night on BBCHD but set it on record after 5 minutes and went to bed instead. Been watching the new series of Skins, McKenzie Crook as a Bristolian Gangster .

You'd seriously complain if the BBC said to you "Here's a couple of hundred grand. Now I know this will be difficult for you but... We'd like you and your mate to go around Britain getting lashed" Although maybe it would seem crap after previously being asked "We'd like you and your mate to go round France and California getting lashed on wine."
-
Why do you not see outfield players taking goal kicks now?
-
Boring, unentertaining, clueless buffoonery . . . .

I don't think the folk who complain about players playing out of position, the team adopting different formations, have to "repeat for the next few seasons until you can finally say I told you so", they are proved correct every time there is a performance like last Saturday. Incidently I disagree with the comments regarding Aluko playing out of position, he is the one player we have, that IMO, can play anywhere across the midfield and up front. Young players will have dips in form. The worrying thing for me is he's not being rested to counteract this and worse is being played through an injury (and folk blame the medical staff at the club for our players endless injuries). And yeah people make mistakes and have off days, this is the first time I have heard Jimmy admit to any in the public domain (probably a good job Andy Considine wasn't playing ). I hope he realises what the mistakes are and rectifies them. Self awareness and an inability to admit to mistakes (in the past) seem to be his downfall and are certainly the two main things that irk me about him. -
That's the English for you, if you've to wear gloves it's time to start driving everywhere at 15mph and braking suddenly if a car 500 yards in front of you has had to stop at a junction. And fuck me if there's a snow flake fluttering down when you look out the window in the morning, you better get on the phone to work to let them know you're snowed in, and get down Asda to buy a trolley load of soup.

I'm guessing Mitchell Meginson is a School boy international and is actually Faroese?
