  1. I think the time has come for him to retire. Unless winning challengers is enough for him. (I'm sure it isn't.) He went on and on about how he fancies his chances against anyone on grass and that he was feeling good. Tsitsipas is a bang average player on clay and hard courts and worse on grass. 10 years ago he wouldn't even be in the top 10/15 IMO opinion. He's lucky the new era is of a lower standard. Murray has nothing to prove. His kids don't like tennis apparently so he needn't bother trying to win something for them!

We don't usually get a new home AND away kit in the same season. But club seems to indicate on FB that a new home kit is coming. A couple of Adidas red kits have been released so far, notably Nottingham Forest and Benfica. Both quite different designs, I think I would prefer the Nottingham Forest one out of those two designs ...

Do we not? I thought that was quite typical these days. Milk the fans as much as possible and all that.

Look doesn't matter what I say I'm going to always be wrong in the eyes of you guys.  I'll just leave you to your bullying private gentleman's club I've honestly had enough of the crap.

But you haven't said anything though. That's the point we're making. Frankly, to accuse anyone in this thread of "bullying" is out of order. I'm generally not one for locking threads but I'm with Al on this one. It might be best locked because you're taking offence where none is intended.

So you're telling me with the club's own admission that if we take the season ticket total for next season 10,000 right now that 2,000 aren't there for some reason or another every game?

And you wonder why I get angry guys.  You've just half explained my argument for how this system is not fit for purpose!!

So what would be an acceptable reason for those season ticket holders missing the game? Many people buy a season ticket knowing full well that other commitments will mean they aren't able to attend every game. They either do it to support the club and/or because it means they can make last minute calls on whether or not they can go. 25% of season ticket seats sitting empty isn't an issue in the games that don't sell out which are 99.99999% of them. I'm pretty sure AFC did a scheme for a while where you could sell your season ticket seat. Whether that scheme is still running or not I don't know.

I don't think you've really got any right to be angry at anyone who, for any reason whatsoever doesn't go to a game.

Do you lot know how bloody scary that thought process is?

Yes Lee I do. You're far from the only one that struggles to a severe degree with mental health, believe me. But as you'll know all too well life isn't fair! And if you can explain how better to prioritise the more deserving fans I'd still like to hear it. I'm all for change but it has to make sense.

I like to watch Liverpool when I can. I've been to Anfield a handful of times. It's very difficult to get tickets and despite the fact I'm travelling a long way I'm still behind Liverpool season ticket holders in the priority list. And in my opinion that's absolutely fine by me.

Please don't ever anybody ever question my desire to be at a game again.

Who is questioning your desire? Your desire is clearly stronger than mine at the moment. I went to less than half of our home games last season due to a mixture of apathy and ill-health. But I've been a season ticket holder for god know how long which is the club's only way of measuring loyalty unless you can suggest otherwise. So still none of us have been able to come up with a solution.

  7. Lee, are there any other clubs who do it differently whose model we could look at? I'm certainly not a believer in doing things a certain way just because that's how it's always been done and I don't think anyone here has suggested that. Genuinely interested to see how else it could be done. If you got a ticket for Roma at home and a season ticket holder wasn't able to get one as a result of that how would you want the club to explain that?

  8. Lee, can you answer my question about how you'd change the current loyalty system to make it fairer if it currently isn't fair? How would you measure loyalty? The club (and every single other business in the world) will measure loyalty by cash (attendance). I'm struggling to think how else it could be done. Whilst we, as human beings can appreciate the effort it takes to travel long distances on a semi-regular basis it doesn't entitle you to anything in the club's eyes I'm afraid.

Lets just say the real lack of class from the club when it comes to making games accessible for disabled fans like myself that live four hours away from Pittodrie.  If things don't change I will probably need to give up on the club and football altogether.  I'm sick of not being eligible for certain matches because I'm not deemed 'loyal enough'.

If what was announced about season ticket sales is true and we get a couple thousand more the likelihood is I won't be going to any of this European adventure at Pittodrie because I'll not have enough 'loyalty credit' for want of a better phrase to be able to purchase a ticket in first place because they'll all be gone by time my phase comes round in general sale.

You want to understand the physical toll it takes on me as a 43 year old guy to make just one match on my own with all the other stresses of this messed up world?  I have a 33% brain injury from birth plus left sided cerebral palsy all down that side of the body and it takes me two or three days after a game just to recharge all my energy and go again so I'm sick of all this loyalty chat about folk from the city that go every two weeks and should get priority.

And because I'm not deemed 'loyal' enough in the eyes of the club I'm not able to enjoy my number one passion watching my football team which has probably stopped me from killing myself all these years. I think about ending it all pretty much every week.

You know I've not been allowed to buy a ticket for my nearest two away grounds in Edinburgh since May and October 2017 respectively.  I spend nearly £200 buying a train ticket, organising overnight accommodation, paying for match brief, plus covering food and drink (not that I take alcohol) but you know what I mean every time I'm at a home game.  Because my local council has taken off the last three bus services to where I live on a weekday a few months ago we will now need to pay about £35 for a taxi from Berwick-upon-Tweed station even though I have a disabled bus pass and until recently used it to get home on last leg of journey back.  So please don't talk to me about the loyalty I've shown this football club since 1991.

I don't expect any of you to get my argument. I mean how could any of you relate to a guy with my lifelong health issues but I'm more than bloody angry at the way I've been treated as a supporter last five or six years.

Interesting point of view. Recently (and certainly in the later McInnes era) I was finding myself feeling more inclined to do myself in after attending the games at Pittodrie.

I live a 7 minute drive away and often can’t be arsed going. The older I get the more apathetic I’ve become. Jim Goodwin  didn’t help matters. As hard work as I’ve found it recently I’ve still renewed my season ticket every year despite swearing I wouldn’t.

As Slim pointed out you should get home game tickets no bother surely. You could probably count the number of games we’ve sold out at home in the last 20 years on one hand. Away tickets is a different story. How would you make sure that the most deserving fans got tickets? How would you measure loyalty?

  10. Supposedly a case in Aberdeen.

Lots of folk keen on reality checks - not as serious as other health issues, etc... it’s all blown out of proportion etc...

However surely the point is that as there’s no vaccine it’s only going to put a strain on a countries health service, as each person on average passes it on to 2.5 people, and the mortality rate is higher than influenza. So it does need to be nipped in the bud pretty sharpish.

    Can see Olympics being pulled.

False. What paper do you buy?  ::)

Symptoms and mortality rate of Coronavirus significantly less severe than influenza. 92,000 people worldwide have it. On a planet of 7 billion. It's hardly affecting children and the only people dying are those that would die if they caught influenza anyway. So like Rocket I'm asking myself why is it exactly that every media outlet on earth (seemingly) is trying to make us shit ourselves over this? It hasn't worked on me.

  11. Interesting. That assumes that you pay people for time on court, which is quite a bizarre criteria. Would a big-hitter be downgraded because they win their points in one shot rather than a 20 point rally? Should a person who loses in 3 sets be paid the same as a woman for that particular game? Has length of game got anything to do with quality or entertainment? Given that average point time in the men's and women's game is broadly similar, do they move to a pay-per-point scheme? Or do they judge the entire game on its merit?

Correct. Agreed. Which is why I said absolutely nothing of the sort. ???

Also, women that play tennis do so as a full time job in the same way as a man does. I don't imagine that Andy Murray works any harder than Serena Williams just because one has to play a 5 setter as opposed to 3). The overwhelming point about tennis is that Grand Slam events are single tournaments for both men and women, they are not separate entities with separate audiences. In that regard, the "office" equivalent from your example is the tournament with the paying company being the LTA or whoever. Thus, there is a fairly good argument for pay to be the same (or based on some other criteria if that's your thing).

He 100% absolutely does work harder than any female on the circuit. I'd bet my house on that. But again that's not the point I'm making.

Where do we start with "But to pay female tennis players the same as male tennis players just isn't a fair reflection of the money in the game"? Is that true? Would Serena Williams be more of a draw than Thomas Berdych? Is it split evenly across Male/Female lines rather than top of each gender being the draw? Even Graff v Navratilova would have been a bigger draw than a hell of a lot of mens games at the time, so it's nae a modern thing either. Furthermore, how does that transpose to other sports? Should the huns and tims be given massively bigger shares of TV money because they are the bigger draw? I don't think you or I would argue for that. The point being that they're part of the same organisation or league, so each needs the other to continue that league or host a tournament (indeed, if you don't want pay-parity, then tennis should split into gender-specific tournaments). You have to also bear in mind that significant money is available to players outwith prize funds in tennis just as it is with teams in football. If a sponsor wants to pay the huns more money or Federer more money then they're absolutely within their rights to do so (unless yer faking it like Man City).

You could compare male and female rivalries all day but again that'd be missing the point. What I'm talking about is the money drawn by the WTA compared to the money drawn by the ATP. (The former being Women's tennis and the latter being Men's.) I don't have exact figures and although what the ladies are drawing has certainly increased (very much helped by the fact that Grand Slam tournaments have been paying equal prize money for years) what the men draw is still significantly higher. Why that is is a matter of opinion. Mine being that what the elite men serve up is significantly better than what the elite women do. And as such I can completely appreciate the argument of "fair" pay not necessarily being split 50/50 between men and women.

  12. How in the name of fuck did The Huns escape that with a one goal lead  :dunno:

Can't see them getting through over the two legs though particularily as Morelos managed to get himself a stupid booking and misses the return

That's nae like him! Here was me under the impression that it's only Scottish refs that treat him differently on account of the agenda that exists against him.  ::)

  13. The equal pay thing is another minefield and I'm jumping in. I'm 100% in agreement that, for example, in an office a man and a woman who do the same job should be paid equally. Obviously. That's a no brainer. But to pay female tennis players the same as male tennis players just isn't a fair reflection of the money in the game. And it would be exactly the same with football if the women somehow gain parity. As an athlete or sports person your pay should reflect your level and your influence on the sport. Women play best of 3 set matches in Tennis; but not because they're not capable of playing 5 sets because of course they are. They're athletes and look after themselves. But the painful truth is that next to no one wants to watch a female 5 setter.

Pay all athletes/sports people what they're worth regardless of gender. That is true equality.

  14. Liverpool beaten by Atletico. I only managed to watch about the final 3rd portion of the game as I was oot but it seems like the other two games were better.  ::) Not that the Motherwell/St. Mirren game is allowed to be televised if CL is on.  ::) ::)

Liverpool more than capable of turning round a 1 goal deficit but I did have a sneaky feeling that they'd be bowing out at this stage of the competition this season.
