I know this post is probably a waste of time and will never happen, but, what if at the end of the season Russell was still not breaking into the first team at Sunderland and was not featuring in Roy Keane's plans, would it not be an idea to try and by him back (or at least try and get him on loan with a view to a permanent signing). I know the board would probably baulk at the thought of any kind of fee, but surely with any money made from the original sale of Russell, European Run, Sky Money from Celtic cup game, etc, we should be investing it in a player that will shore up a very leaky defence where we are in danger of ruining Zander(I think there is too much pressure on him and he is still quite young and still learning). I read an article today where Jimmy said they were missing big Russell's influence in the team badly. In my own opinion I don't think Russell will feature in Roy Keane's plans, I think he will end up being overlooked with all the other defenders that have been signed, and I don't think Russell really wanted to leave the club in the first place. What is everyones views on this subject ?

I think he was a Hibs fan and knew his team were going to be pumped by the famous Aberdeen the next day and so he topped himself !!!

It was a Sunday when we beat Hibs 3-0 in October, 1985. As I remember going as a kid and missing the final episode of Stookie on STV on the Sunday. If memory serves me right it was also the day after the actor who played Wayne in Auf Wiedhersen Pet (Gary Holden I think) was found dead.

OK there seems to be a bit of chat regarding Barry Nicholson and his future. What about Lee Miller ? I thought JC had asked him for a definite decision on whether he was staying or going so he could line up a future replacement, and I thought this was round about the time he was sniffing about Scott Dobie, before he went to Carlisle (Thankfully!!). Anyone else heard anything else on the matter ?? Hope he stays with the club though.

The signing of Duff reminds me very much of the signing of Neil McFarlane from Hearts a couple of seasons ago. A very average utilty player(doesn't know if he is a midfielder or defender) that had fallen out of the picture at his club, only for us to offer them a short term contract in order to try and prove they are actually a decent player. Also, worryingly, Jimmy Calderwood appears to be trying too hard into talking himself into believing Duff is a good player. Hope I am wrong though, it is only fair to give the boy a chance.

Hi I'm DON 71. DON because my name is Donald, 71 because I was born in 1971 (Not very imaginative I know!!) I was born in Aberdeen 36 years ago and I am now resident(and very settled) in the west end of Glasgow(Partick to be precise) having also lived in Ayrshire & Edinburgh along the way(Although I stil consider myself very much a proud Aberdonian). The first Aberdeen game I attended was against Kilmarnock in 1983, and I was lucky enough to take in many games & cup finals in the 80's when our team was without dout at their best. I don't get to that many games nowadays due to work & family commitments(but never miss a Dons game thats on the box !!). My 2 great loves in life are Aberdeen FC & My family(Wife & Daughter) in that particular order !! ( I can get away with saying this as the wife is not a fan of football and unlikely to visit this site). I am currently trying hard to educate my 5 year old daughter in the joys of Aberdeen FC. I am not one for posting alot on this site but I do visit the site every day to catch any news or gossip on the Dons which I don't find in the west coast old firm biased newspapers. Stand Free

Has anyone heard any news/gossip on what is happening with regards to Barry Nicholson & Lee Miller signing new deals ? ? ? It seems to have all gone very quiet on this subject since it had been about a week or so ago that Barry had been offered an improved deal and Jimmy wanted an anwer from Lee on whether he was going to stay or go.

Surely the board can stretch it abit and offer Barry Nic an improved offer, after all they managed it with Zander after saying they had given him his final offer. In my opinion it is clear that Barry Nic would rather stay with the club than leave and I think resigning 2 of the players Jimmy Calderwood really wants to stay, will pesuade him to renew his contract also. Barry Nic has chipped in with a good few important goals this season and we could do with a few more if we are to get into cup finals this season and make 3rd place in the league.

The problem is that the afore mentioned £4-4.5k a week would probably not even get us players who are as good as the so called 4 average players, and besides in my opinion some of the 4 players are far better than in most other SPL teams, so in short it would cost us nearly as much to replace the 4 with lesser standard players !!

After the club stated that earlier in the season that money from the sale of Russell Anderson and from the European Run would be used to secure new contracts for the management team and the players coming to the end of their existing contracts !!!! .............. Surely, Surely we are not now going to hold a press conference to announce that all are now leaving the club !!!! The club moans about dwindling attendances at matches, well this is really going to help solve that problem !!! And when the club did make the statement about the money going towards keeping the management & players this did not include for the financial gain from the Bayern Munich games, so surely there must be a bit of financial leverage to try and improve the offers further. We will look a right laughing stock yet again if we loose half our team and management. In my eyes Willie Miller is God but if this press conference goes the way it is looking, then I think I will become an athiest !!!!

Firstly well done to Jimmy & the lads ! Great performance, made me truly proud to be a Don ! Now we are in the group stages what financial figure can we expect ? I take it it will be dependent on who we get in our group. How do you think the club will spend the money ? Will it be used to clear some of the debt ? tie up existing players & management on long term contracts ? Maybe some new players ? Isn't it a pity we had to sell big Russell before getting into the group stages as surely this would have meant we could have afforded a deal to keep him. Your thoughts guys ?
