I think the issue with Maguire is that he is still very much learning on the job. In years gone by the squad would have been big enough and good enough so that Maguire wouldn't have been blooded so early. When guys like Booth and Jess came through they were fairly accomplished when they made their debuts.
I spoke to a fromrt player who played with him under his captaincy and management and he said that Miller, whilst respected as a great player, was not fondly thought of in the dressing room or for his management skills.
Workrate was very good, he seemed to be popping up everywhere. Kept the ball very well, didn't seem to give it away. I was impressed with his crossing too, especially on his weaker foot. Finishing was abysmal.
Maybe. In recent years I don't think we have raised our game much beyond our normal standard against the Hun. I think last night the pressure was off and the players showed a sense of freedom which, coupled with the huge pressure the Hun felt, allowed them to play decent attacking football.
