Joke of a goal to concede. All that good work undone.

James Wilson down, holding his hamstring Wilson OFF Cosgrove ON

This is night and day from the Hibs cup game, we are certainly a lot better at the back as well as offering more of a threat up top, the balance between defence and attack is fairly spot on.
-
I would say we actually edged that half in terms of clear cut chances. GMS really should have scored near the end of the half though, that's the sort of chance we have to take to have any hope of winning this game. They are absolutely beelin at this McKenna/Edouard incident  Also, top trolling from big Joe with the Tim physio

20 minutes in as I type this, we're actually holding our own and other than that opening chance for Forrest, they've been timid whereas we're knocking the ball bout well enough. Putting on decent pressure. EDIT - They hit the post after I typed this, shat myself haha, also, these 2 on Celtic TV are as insufferable as the goons on the Rangers commentary. Tom Boyd is one I think, guys a fucking cretin.

Turns out Ferguson isn't back for this one, I could have sworn he said in his post match or pre match interview that he'd be back for this game, never mind. Will most likely be the same 11 that played against Hibs then I'd imagine, should be interesting, as we didn't look close to scoring in open play for 90 minutes then, hopefully Celtic's defence are nervous, because they have been up until now.
-
Aye, feel it would hamper Scott Wright & even Frank Ross, on the flip side, would maybe help them, experience is never a bad thing. Agree also that he's made some fucking mental decisions, but we've always lacked our own lunatic. At the end of the day, he was a Premier League player, who fell away & is also Injury Prone, so he fits the bill no doubt.

Can't see Celtic being as impotent as Hibs, should we choose to adopt the same system. However, they are not very confident themselves just now, and as Killie have just proved, and I have a sneaky feeling St Johnstone will tonight also, they can certainly be got at. Think Ferguson is back for this one, fairly sure McInnes said that last night. Lewis Logan Devlin McKenna Lowe Ball Shinnie GMS Ferguson McGinn Wilson Heart says Tims 0 - 2 Aberdeen ( Wilson, Devlin ) Head says Tims 3 - 1 Aberdeen ( Wilson )

Hibernian v Aberdeen Betfred Cup Quarter-Final
KennyFuckinPowers replied to Lencarl's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Heard this in Pele, Calderwood & McGhee's tenure. Fans in general, from all clubs, have fickle supporters & we're no different. Hibernian fans tonight all proud of their team, yet we're the ones in the Semi Final & there is still a fairly big divide. FWIW, may be controversial, but I think McInnes admitted he feels Hibs are a better team than us, you just need to look at how he set us up in the 2 games we've played there. Anyway, not much to talk about during the 90 minutes last night, we were cut open numerous times and could have been pumped had Hibs had their shooting boots on. Ball was indeed our best player for about an hour, but sadly our midfield eventually just got steamrollered the likes of Ambrose, Porteous & Hanlon ended up in the middle of the park for them, fucking bizarre. Extra Time was much better, well first half of it anyway. Knew for a fact May was missing his chance, but really expected more from McGinn, that was a golden chance. What I will say, in a pressure game like that, all the penalty takers ( May & young Anderson especially ) deserve huge credit. Obviously delighted we're in a Semi Final, but we must improve and find consistency in selection, we do not look like a team who has established themselves as the 2nd best team in the league. Could be wrong, but 2 goals from open play this season also? -

Been stewing on this, and what 11 I think would be enough to get us through. Lewis Logan Devlin McKenna Lowe Ball Shinnie GMS Forrester McGinn Wilson I know I was saying about Gleeson coming in for Ball, but the more I think about it, Hibs' full backs do like to get forward, a lot like ours, so perhaps Ball would be the logical choice given that whoever plays in there will need to cover Logan at RB if he pushes forward and gets caught in possession etc... As much as I like Gleeson, he might not be ready for that kind of exertion. And I am certain there will be eyebrows raised at Forrester's inclusion, however, he is a CAM by trade & everyone down south was saying that's where we'd get the most of him, we need that creative spark in a game like this, Lennon won't anticipate we play him I don't imagine, therefore they may need to accommodate him which would maybe throw his plans a little, he may be reluctant to push too many bodies forward, which in turn helps us. Wilson won't last 90 minutes, I think it's going to mightily important that we don't try and sneak a goal at the end, we're going to need to take the game to them, try get 2-0 up and then manage the game. 1-0 won't be enough. Create opportunities for Wilson/McGinn/GMS/Forrester & be clinical. My head is saying this will be one of those nights where we just don't turn up, would absolutely love to be proved wrong. If we do manage a result, there's no excuse not to push on in the League afterwards. -
Hibernian v Aberdeen Betfred Cup Quarter-Final

Well the sheep are back again with their boring, negative anti-football approach of score a goal then time waste and defend the rest of the game. A hibs fans view on our fixture tomorrow night. Fair assessment or bell-end? -
Hibernian v Aberdeen Betfred Cup Quarter-Final

I agree with both of your points, I still think Gleeson will become a key player for us, he does do what Jack did, albeit perhaps not as mobile. I think he only played 5 times from the bench last season? I could be well off there, but fairly sure he never played much, which could explain his running out of steam ( Probably similar to G Stewart? ) I like Ball, I think we all seen the player he was capable of being at the tail end of last season, and I'd have absolutely no problem with him being a main CDM for us, but I feel like Gleeson has the experience & will become more mobile once he's up to full speed. Both players will have their uses in certain fixtures, against Hibs tomorrow, we'll have Shinnie's combative style and drive, so maybe Gleeson will get the nod for composure's sake? We need to keep the ball tomorrow night. Rico, regarding Consi & Lowe, that's the only one I am 100% positive on, Lowe will start, I am not saying it's what I would do, I must stress that again, I just think McInnes will opt for Lowe's pace and mobility. I am a Considine fan, never hid that, always been impressed with how he continually adapts his game & physique. Anyway, the real conundrum comes when Tansey is match fit. He walks back into our midfield. -

I'm absolutely certain of the Lowe for Considine change, I reckon that was part of thinking for placing him on the bench against Motherwell, so he was peak for this game. In my opinion, Lowe will cope better with Hibs' wide players. Gleeson for Ball, again, my thinking was based on this upcoming fixture, for me personally, there's not much difference between Ball & Gleeson, still not seeing what Gleeson is doing wrong in a few people's eyes, he's not got the engine of Shinnie, but his passing and keeping possession have been pretty good, but Ball is more combative and perhaps we'll need that in this game, or perhaps we'll need Gleeson's ability to retain possession. I'm not saying this is what I would do, I'm saying I am fairly confident that's what the manager will do. -
In an acoustic mood today. This guy deserves much credit for this cover of a song very close to my heart.

You'll get a feel of where this is going after 10 minutes. I guarantee you that they will come flying out the traps and camp us into our own half, if we withstand that pressure initially, we'll try and break them down gradually, a very similar approach to our recent league game there, which backfired needlessly Lowe will definitely come in for Considine, and I reckon Gleeson will replace Ball, I don't see him going with 2 up front truth be told, so likelihood is Cosgrove will drop out for Ferguson if he's fit to revert back to a 4-2-3-1. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised to see Wilson being dropped, due to match fitness etc...and come on for whichever striker plays, around the hour mark. If we went there and played our game, which is width & letting our wingers run at them, getting balls in the box etc... we'd spook them and could take advantage, but we won't, we'll manage the game as if we're 1-0 up and hope to sneak it near the end. Tomorrow night is about the mentality of the manager and how he gets that across to the players, Hibs will score if we let them play, simple as that, 90 minutes of energy, willingness and cool heads in the final 3rd would be enough to get into the Semi's. Unfortunately, I have lost faith in McInnes with these types of games. Hibs 3 - 1 Aberdeen -
Struggling to see what Cosgrove could have done any differently to please people? ( Other than score ) He held the ball up well, took a lot of balls into chest and feet and kept it in our possession, flicked plenty of headers on etc... I absolutely agree he has work to do, he's very rough, but he was good when he came on against St Johnstone last week and he was one of the better players today, and for me, he's currently a better option than May. Thankfully he got a very good applause when he was subbed. Like May, he's not going to suit a lone Striker role, but he's more useful and more of a handful, than May. Fwiw, I thought Anderson didn't do himself any favours again when he came on, he had 2 good opportunities and ballooned the first effort and was too slow to get a shot away at his second effort. A positive there though, he's getting into good positions, just very raw with age ( Probably the same as Cosgrove )
-
Job done, albeit far from dominant etc.... but it's a welcome 3 points, thought Wilson looked okay in spells and took his goal well, Cosgrove & GMS also played well for large parts, Cosgrove still has work to do but he's clearly useful. McKenna & Devlin absolutely fine. Good to see Hearts drop 2 points, Livingston clearly no mugs by the start they've made, surely McCann is done at Dundee? Anyway, onto Tuesday night now, huge, huge game.

Wee bit on my current Avatar, John Dillinger. Born in 1903 Was Public Enemy Number One, escaped prison with a fake Gun carved from wood, robbed several banks, and despite his reputation as a murderer, he killed one Police Officer, who shot at him first. Dillinger had no luck finding work in the city and joined the town pool shark, Ed Singleton, in his search for easy money. In their first attempt, they tried to rob a Mooresville grocer, but were quickly apprehended. Singleton pleaded not guilty, stood trial, and was sentenced to two years in prison. Dillinger, following his father’s advice, confessed, was convicted of assault and battery with intent to rob and conspiracy to commit a felony, and received joint sentences of two to 14 years and 10 to 20 years in the Indiana State Prison. Stunned by the harsh sentence, Dillinger became a tortured, bitter man in prison. A rather ridiculous sentence for a failed Attempted Robbery & Assault. Click on the link to the FBI website where they have a detailed account of his very short rein if you're interested. I always felt it was an extremely harsh account, and don't think he deserved to be murdered, but there you go. https://www.fbi.gov/history/famous-cases/john-dillinger

Stevie May .......... Derek ...... over to you
KennyFuckinPowers replied to BigDan's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
The guy has had plenty of opportunities now. Think his return is 5 goals in 30+ games, and 2 of them came in the same game I think. I was fairly happy when he signed, I remember how good and useful he was for St Johnstone, but pretty sure that was beside Steven MacLean, so perhaps he can still be useful, but the fact we don't play 2 up front means he can't be our main Striker, I certainly don't buy into the whole " He's not getting the service " tripe, because we're still putting plenty of balls into the box from GMS & McGinn as well as set pieces, he's just too slow to react, polar opposite from Rooney in that regard, and does not look like a Striker who believes in himself when presented with a chance to shoot etc... Our season quite simply now rides on James Wilson, if he's as useless as May in the lone Striker role, then we're in for a turgid season, if he's good, we might scrape a 4th place finish with a bit of luck. I think when everyone is fully fit, we have a solid defence & good enough midfield, May is not the answer up front though, over to you....James Wilson. -
Can't argue with that, although I also feel the attitude of the players was underwhelming, largely down to the manager in his preparation surely? The very first basic going into a game like that has to be making sure the team are pumped and eager to get out on the pitch, didn't feel like that watching it, sadly.
-
Obviously can't speak for Rico here, but I read it as " If we'd signed better players, using a proper Striker as an example " type of post.

New Predator movie, fucking sucks and that's being generous. Genuinely a cross between a comedy & really poorly executed B movie. First time I've ever felt robbed leaving a Cinema ( in the film sense, not the cost of the Cinema ) I'd be very surprised if anyone else sees this and has a different opinion. Honestly, it's enormously horrific.

Can only speak for myself with this one, I was at School in the 90's & early 2000's & never learned about Scottish History, was just the World Wars & bizarrely a bit about Greek History.

Rico's dream would a midfield duo of Tansey & Gleeson, it's coming Rico, just need Tansey to get match fit, bide your time loon.
