Personally, I don't think we will but annoyingly we're getting a lot of press coverage (particularly today) which has led me to get a bit excited about the thought.  Below link being an example (even one in the retard :o - but they probably have ulterior motives)

The clubs official mantra of one game at a time is completely correct.  We're only 1/2 way through the season with a lot of games yet to be played.  The game against St. Johnstone is another massive game, with the prospect of our greatest attendance of the season so far.  I definitely think we should be aiming for the top, this is probably the best chance we're going to have for a while.  If we can maintain the consistency and get a win against those scumbags in the green, who knows?

Of course we CAN win the league... whether we actually achieve that is a different question. It will depend on us maintaining (if not improving) current performance as well as beating the Tattie Munchers at some  point.

I think the recent (re)signings are a good start, but it would be good to strengthen the squad with some new blood.

Yes we CAN.

A lot will depend on January though, as long as we don't sell, as long as we strengthen rather than pad out the squad we will be in good shape. Then it comes down to the potato eaters........sell Van Dijk, rake in a ridiculous amount of money for a half decent EPL squad player, but talent from near rivals (I see gossip linking them with 2 United players......weaken your rivals to pad out your bench, was always so with the arse-cheeks) and spunk some cash buying overpriced players from the continent (who will be the greatest ever thing to grace our leagues).

I suspect we might not win the league, but we have to, HAVE TO be looking at no worse than second, and you never know..................................

PS. If rasellikbyrawaysoitisbigman don't win the league we all know it's the fault of the authorities for not allowing their bigoted brothers to play in the same league, thus weakening their competition and therefor responsible for all their ills!

I see it like this.  We can win the league, we have everything going for us.  Great manager, unified team that is fast becoming (but not yet become) greater than the sum of it's parts (though it's not far away) and most importantly a winning no fear mentality.

We have, at the moment, something that no non O/F side has had since mad vlad sacked burley.  A fighting chance.  A couple of wise recruitments in January and we are well on our way.  For the record I punted on us for the title in July, got 25/1, and whilst it was an optimistic punt I didn't think we would be too far away if it didn't come in.

Consider this.  Atletico won la liga and got to the CL final with resources dwarfed by madrid and barca.  Montpellier did the same in Ligue 1 a few years back.  A lot of commentators and their own supporters would have said no chance about their chances at this stage of their respective seasons.  Statistical probability states that the O/F cannot win the league forever more, why not us this year?

Asking whether we can is probably not the right question. Of course we can.

Hard to think we will though but as the manager has said, concentrate on improvement, concentrate on becoming more consistent and good things can happen.

No even halfway through the season guys, if we're 2 points behind in April then fair enough. We're a wee bit better and Celtic are a big bit worse, this would be the formula to give us a chance.

Pretty sure one of my good friends put on £50 on Aberdeen to win the title at 40/1. I still think he is very silly. But we should be expecting to win the league as half the fun of football is being optimistic. The OF dominance will have to end one day and atm it must be the best chance there has ever been. Very weak league without Rangers, Hearts and Hibs. Really we should be expecting to win every game bar those against Celtic and if we do that we will win the league.

Fair points funster, I don't think we will either but i'd say Andrew almost summed it up:

But we should be expecting to win the league as half the fun of football is being optimistic.

1st should be our aim rather than expectation but whether we achieve that is a different matter altogether though.  Regardless, this is a very positive position to be in, certainly for as long as I can remember and a very clear signal that progress has been made under DM.

If a punter has a ticket at 40/1 and the best odds you'll get now is 11/1, why would you think he is "very silly"?

Because I know he will never lay it off, he is a student and put way too much money on the bet and even at 10/1 there is a very good chance he will lost money he should just have kept. Gambling is bad though. Horrible horrible thing. I am pretty sure I haven't gambled in a good five months or so. I am doing well.

Fascism, ignorance and tedium in one short snapshot. Some going!

Your right to tell another what to do with his own money might have had a foundation if you had any specialist skill or knowledge but to then dismiss "gambling" as horrible demonstrates an incredible stupidity of the way of the world. It's "gamblers", speculators, innovators, inventors, market-seekers and creators who create the wealth that pays the wages of the boring bastards who push pens around in the public sector, draining the economy and adding zero value. The wealth-creators also pay for the excellent NHS staff and unfortunately the quango cunts who are ruining it, installed by corrupt politicians who also get paid for by "gamblers". Without gambling, all you tedious bastards would have been found out long ago.

To answer the question; Yes we can. but I don't think we will. The financial gulf is just too big. Celtic have this month to sign players and talk about signing ours to unsettle them. They have money to throw at the problem. We're unlikely to strengthen at all which I think we'd need to mount a lasting challenge.

I think we will strengthen this window

I hope you're right but with all these new deals getting handed out we must be at our maximum budget surely? I thought we were before and I highly doubt those new deals wouldn't have included pay rises. So I'd be surprised if we made signings this month unless players leave to vacate wages.

I would think best we will get is a replacement for Monakana i.e. another bit part player on loan to warm the bench. As Tyrant says I cannot see there being the cash for anything else given all the new deals handed out over the last month.

Quick look at the fixture list

The next time the dons play celtic will be Sunday 1st March, 3 days after yon tic have played the 2nd leg in the San Siro.

Celtic also have 9 Games before then (possibly 10 if they try and fit in the postponed Thistle game) whereas the Dons have only 6. Wise move shifting the midweek county hame to the Scottish cup weekend too

I put a £5 on us at 25/1 in July and cash out is currently £10 so presumably your mate will have a decent cash out amount with his bet?
