I seem to remember it being spoken about just before he left us in rather sad circumstances, so I think they were going to give him his testimonial. The fact Jim Leighton's testimonial year was the season before Jess left may have had something to do with him not getting one at that point.

He didn't serve 10 consecutive years therefore wasn't eligible, under normal criteria.  To be honest I can't even remember Leighton's one but would guess that his was awarded on the grounds of him being a club legend, which Jess never fulfilled, great player though.

Leighton played a few seconds after the kick-off before being subbed due to having had his jaw broken a few weeks beforehand in the cup final.
