MM comments ....

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee has revealed he was spat at by some angry Dons fans after the Scottish Cup defeat by Raith Rovers at Pittodrie.

McGhee described the 1-0 loss to the First Division club as the "worst result of my managerial career".

"There was heckling, which you expect; some spitting. I've never experienced anything like that," he told BBC Scotland afterwards.

"Raith were thoroughly deserving of their result."

The Dons forced a replay 10 days ago after firing a late equaliser at Stark's Park, but Gregory Tade's 58th-minute strike was enough to send Raith through on Tuesday.

"Raith battled for every ball and won every header," McGhee said.

"There's no doubt about it, it's the worst result of my managerial career, and that's no disrespect to Raith Rovers.

"We didn't compete for the first ball and never won a header. On a night like this, on a pitch like this we had to at least win the battle and we never won that.

"Raith won the battle and got the breakthrough with the goal. We're out the cup and I'm embarrassed, humiliated. Walking down the track there I'm getting people throwing stuff at me."

The Dons had earned plaudits last weekend after battling back to draw 4-4 with Celtic in a scintillating Scottish Premier League clash at the same venue.

But the emotions among the home supporters could not have been more different after the full-time whistle signalled the end of Aberdeen's Scottish Cup hopes.

"I've told the players I think they should be ashamed that they're capable of the sort of performance that they displayed on Saturday (against Celtic) - the battling qualities and the effort, commitment - and to come here tonight and not reproduce that, in a game as important as this, is just scandalous," McGhee added.

The Dons boss said none of his players were immune from criticism.

But he said the defeat would not affect his position at the club and that he was determined to prove a success at Pittodrie.

Well I hope he was spat on (not because he deserved to be - nobody does), because if he wasn't then that means he's lied and it's all over the BBC and Sky Sports websites.

The question is, why was Paul Hegarty at the match?

Jim Spence said he walked behind McGhee down the touchline and never seen anyone spitting.

I suspect that someone was so upset that in the process of shouting some "constructive advice" at MM so phlegm flew on his direction.....that however doesn't make a good story

Maybe it was not spit, Maybe someone did a migs from Silence of the Lambs on him

Just saw him walk down the line on BBC Scotland news, as I thought no sign of anyone spitting. Quite a lot of people applauding him.

Surely there was fuck all to applaud last night?

Surely there was fuck all to applaud last night?

You been on the hat or mad today?

You been on the hat or mad today?

Nope?

Nope?

Well dont, its like walking into a parallel universe!

Could have been sarcasm  ???

These are fairly serious allegations against (at least) one of our supporters from our own manager. He doesn't want a police investigation? Well there must at least be an enquiry, and as supporters who've collectively had our name dragged through the mud today on news chanels and in news papers, we deserve to find out the truth.

Was he spat at? And if he was why is there no tv footage or picture evidence to prove it?

or

Was he not spat at? And did he make the whole thing up in the heat of the moment?

Either a disgusting act which should be punished by the club, or a disgusting lie from a man who should have known today would be hard enough for dons fans without all this shite.

I want to know the truth.  >:(

Somewhat sceptical about the whole spitting thing.

No tv evidence, no photographic evidence, despite the cameras being on him going down the touchline.

I can only speak personally, but if I was Dingus and someone DID spit on me then the fucker wouldn't be getting away scot free.

Could McGhee be exaggerating events to deflect away from the result and performance of the team.

Somewhat worrying if he has on a couple of counts. Firstly we are national news over this.....it was even on the sport news on radio 2 tonight, and secondly if he'd lie to the fans over something like this, then what else would he lie over

Maybe it was not spit, Maybe someone did a migs from Silence of the Lambs on him

There surely couldn't have been any dons fan in the stadium that could have managed that after watching that performance  ;D

Enough already about the spitting I don't believe for a minute that it happened intentionally it was obviously some guy or girl foaming at the mouth with anger  :hammer:

Is there something you want to confess to?

Is there something you want to confess to?

I wasn't there I was watching the women's luge on tv and listening to that pathetic game on the radio

Think McGhee has tried to be smart with the spitting incident and just said it to get some of the pressure off him.

If that's true then that's twice he has made up stories to the press.

What was the other one? Hegarty wasn't made up, he just used a random name to illustrate a point about being able to handle folk trying to wind you p.

Still made himself look a bit of a twat.

So he made it up then.

His quote about Aberdonians being cold towards him is made up too, I refuse to believe that was the truth.

Much like I refuse to believe that Aberdonians are known to be as tight as a ducks arse.

I'm not sure about it not being the truth, I think the context is important here.  When he said it, I got the impression that he was kinda saying "The fans see me as a legend but even that hasn't made me immune from criticism or hasn't bought me time" and nor should it.  Mark McGhee was a wonderful player for Aberdeen, but there has to be a concession on his part that a lot of the regulars at Pittodrie, and a lot of the contributors to websites such as this one will have no recollection of him as a player for us other than what they see on DVDs and so they don't feel the emotional attachment some other fans may have with him.

I agree, its the context of what he was saying, he wasn't saying Aberdonians are cold to him but just saying folk weren't coming up to him declaring him as some kind of messiah.

At least we stand our hand and are generally first to the bar, before the wos scum steal the gantry.
