McLean and Paterson Sign!

1713: Aberdeen have secured the signature of striker Steven MacLean from Plymouth Argyle. He will join up at Pittodrie on loan until the end of the season.

Must mean Miller is definitely away then, wonder if there will be any more before midnight

Question is was it his decision or ours to sign him on loan rather than permanently?  I would have thought a longer term deal would have been better for both of us.

eventually someone to get us goals!!!

get in!!

His wikipedia page has revealed much I didn't already know:

MacLean has now decided to accept a move to Mars on a new Richard Branson project. Rumours state he is taking John Inglis with him.

He has been tipped to win the Grand National this year. William Hill have 7/4.

Would this indicate Miller is gone? Still no word if thats definite.

Just heard Dingus on Northsound. Didn't sound to me as if McLean has joined us yet !

JIm spence just said Maclean has signed and we are currently in negotiations for Jim Patterson (apparenlty we are 'getting there'

ABERDEEN FC have tonight (Monday) completed the double capture of Plymouth Argyle pair Steve MacLean and Jim Paterson. Both players have signed on loan at Pittodrie until the end of the season.

Striker, MacLean, joined Argyle in 2008 after a spell at Cardiff City. Having started his career at Rangers, he also enjoyed spells at Scunthorpe United and Sheffield Wednesday.

Paterson, who can operate at left back or left midfield, played over 100 games for Dundee United and Motherwell before moving south in 2008.

Both players go straight in to the squad for tomorrow night's Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League game with Falkirk at Pittodrie.

Paterson too

Now another striker would go down a treat.......or even a winger.

Paterson too

Hopefully at left back and Foster can go to right back and Grassi can go play with the traffic.

Both loan moves though :hammer: Thought we were 500 grand up FFS

Hope i'm wrong but reckon that might just be the sum total of it, unless someone leaves us on loan.

Bet you we're not £500k up on today's sale of Miller ;)

Suppose it's better not to waste £500k (if that is really how much we got) on panic buys.  Two decent stop gap signings.  If they do a job we might be able to keep hold of them.  If not then nothing lost and we have the best part of £500k to spend in the summer.

Kevin Kyle and Maguire going in opposite directions?  :-\

The £500k from Miller will sit right next to the £1M from Anderson which was not used to service our debt.  :-\

Will the £500K not be going straight to the Jimmy's? Compo?

Yawn.

I have a suspicion we'll be getting O'Brien too.

Would love that to be true

McLean will be a decent signing, not to sure about Patterson can't really remember him when he was up here.

Kelly Clarkson at 11:55 would be nice

Nae really. I'd be more worried if he'd played 23 games so far this season but had only scored four goals. Thankfully, that statistic became Middlesbrough's liability last night, not ours

While I am pleased to have McLean on board its not a move for the future, its only really trying to shore up this season.

Scenario 1: He puts in a great performance over the next 4 months and gets a better offer in the summer. Best we can hope for is that he sees us as a shop window and lights up the rest of this season.

Scenario 2: HE turns out to be horse and we look to offload him or worse, offer him a deal because he is the best we can get. Best we can hope for there is to cut our losses after a dull and disappointing end to the season. Back to the drawing board.

Scenario 3: He takes time to settle and play reasonably OK but fails to attract any interest from bigger, richer clubs. He then goes on to sign for us and sets the SPL alight next season.

Scenario 3 is the only outcome that will give us some long term prospect but it depends on us giving up on any progress this season so we can 'hide' McLeans talent in an average peformance.

Fucking hate loan deals.  >:D

Perhaps he's had some assurances though. It was a fairly sudden u-turn from, 'I only want a permanent deal' to eventually signing on loan. There is, maybe, an outside chance that the club have arranged a deal to be taken up in the summer with the current loan just being used to avoid paying a fee in the mean time.

Having actually typed that it seems far too idealistic to assume any facet of our transfer arrangements could be so simple and logical, however. We can but hope, I suppose.
