I'd LOL out loud on the floor while ROFLing if this turned out to be bullshit. This thread would live on as the ultimate DT FAIL.

Good luck Mark, with the most fickle support in the land. Hughes wouldn't be a bad signing at all but I reckon our central pairing are better. Still, a good player.

Well, we'd need cover now that Mark Kerr has decided to become a nutter ;)

Seems pretty obvisually a done deal. If it isn't McGhee is going to look pretty fucking daft.

As I believe it, He will make Hughes his first signing.

Thanks for that exclusive Mini. Welcome to yesterday.

Well thank fuck Bob Malcolm is off to Oz already ...

As I believe it, He will make Hughes his first signing.

You were on the Hat yesterday saying "as you believe" it was still Levein

McGhee ain't my first pick, but he was certainly not my last. Him being Dons manager has prompted a rub on the chin and a "hmmmmmmm" from me. When JC was appointed, I screamed "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh" in pain.

If he is confirmed as manager, then good luck to him. It's probably the toughest managerial job in Scotland. The Old Firm and Hearts have money to spend. United, Hibs and co don't really have that big ambitions. A top six finish is seen as a monumental success for any team outside of Rangers, Celtic or Aberdeen. But the Aberdeen manager has fuckall money to play with and has to deal with a horrible disease that spreads to every single player that moves to the Granite City that turns them from "promising/proven talent" into "shite that only turns on the style four times a season".

Good luck Mark, you're gonna need it!

But Hughes is a big hun?! We can't sign him!

Yeah, you were right all along about Calderwood. I was happy he got the job. The current crop of applicants has got me sighing with a little relief that McGhee has pretty much sewn it up.

Erm, no I wasn't. all I said was that I had a text stating that the rumours were picking up again around todders.

Is that what the mob are calling themselves nowadays?

Why did you dredge up an ancient post relating to Craig Levein, to post these rumours within?

As i was hoping we would get him as i don't want Mutley here, think he may just fail abit.

So you wanted a manager who wasn't even remotely a patch on Calderwood? YASS! JMG!!!!  :lolabove:

Why?

His head to head record with Jimmy was far better as was his cup record, Levein is a fantastic manager.

He has only got his team in the top 6 once though hasn't he.

Not very consistent.

Dundee United have finished in the top6 2 season in a row now.

Dundee United have finished in the top6 2 season in a row now.

2 top 6 finishes and no trophys? Calderwoods record pissed all over his yet you decided to join the infantile witch hunt against him. You're just proving that the JMG mob haven't got a fucking clue.

I think the point being made here is that the Arabs and Avril had one over on us for most of the time JC was in charge, kind of a sick jinx.

Culminating in the game we lost due to Langfield being in fear of his life due to a couple of lighters..

Still cut up about the JMG stuff?  FFS Jimmy has gone and had he stayed he would have proved most of to be right with his failing tactics and constant ramblings that made my shit on here look like cutting edge stuff.

Levein is a better manager than Jimmy, he was on a tighter budget at a much smaller club than Aberdeen, got them to a cup final out of a possible 4, Jimmy got us to none out of a possible 10, that is a fucking shocking yet you still think Jimmy is better.

Levein is a better manager than Jimmy

Complete and utter nonsense.

How so?  Head to head, levein at a smaller club with a much smaller budget yet they can beat us, incidently when was the last time we beat DUndee United?

Just because you keep saying it doesn't make it so. Aye, UTD got the better of us at Tannadice but Levein is a fucking shite manager who plays shite football with shite clubs. If that's your ambition for Aberdeen then fair play to you, but I want a little bit more than that.

His football isn't exactly shit, United arn't a shit club, probably just a bit shitter than us and smaller, levein done well at hearts aswell, also look at the team when Levein came in and look at it now, see what he done with a shit club with his shit football.

Compare the teams before Levein came, and at the end of this season.

Before:

GK - Stillie

RB - Archibald

CB - McCracken

CB - Mair

LB - Kalvenes

RM - Duff

CM - Cameron

CM - Kerr

LM - Robson

ST - Hunt

ST - Samuel

After:

GK - Zaluska

RB - Kovacevic

CB - Wilkie

CB - Kenneth

LB - Dixon

RM - Caddis

CM - S. Robertson

CM - Gomis

LM - Conway

ST - Sandaza

ST - Goodwillie

Out of the old team, I'd only have Robson (sold for 1.3mil), Hunt (sold for 600k), and Kalvenes (let's not go into that) back into the team - and all 3 of them took a step up and furthered their careers, where as seemingly everyone else went backwards, except Kerr, who went sideways. He's totally transformed the team, and it's now the youngest in the SPL, which is good for future sales etc.

Levein has a plan, and unlike most managers in the modern era, is being allowed to execute that plan, we clearly are going forwards (this season out highers points total for 13 years), and have spent practically bugger all. Instant success is no substitute for long term stability. Not a dig at Motherwell or McGhee, but I'd rather have 5th then 5th, rather than 3rd then 7th.

Also his SPL record is pretty good.

took over hearts halfway through 2000/01, they were 5th & ended up 5th,

2001/02 - 5th

2002/03 - 3rd

2003/04 - 3rd

took over united in 2006/07 when bottom after 12 games and being humped week in week out on a run of 3 wins in 30 games and got us to 9th comfortable, no relegation battle.

2007/08 - 5th & LCup Final (should have won)

2008/09 - 5th
