League Cup semi: Rangers v Aberdeen

I'm breaking forum etiquette here, but semi-final chat should not be hidden away in a generic League Cup thread.

Last time we were at Hampden we won the cup against Celtic, so let's not fear this mob.

The last time Stephen Robinson faced Derek McInnes in a semi-final at Hampden he skelped him 3-0 (Motherwell against... doesn't matter who it was against, but the team he beat were wearing blue shirts).

The last two times Robinson has been at Hampden - and in this competition - he won 4-1 (semi) and 3-1 (final).

So aye, we're winning this. Final against Hibs (I'm calling it now, think they'll beat Hearts) on the sacred day that we celebrate Eoin Jess' birthday (and Kristers Tobers).

Dates and kick-off time are either Saturday 31st (17:15 or 17:30 kick-off usually is the slot) or Sunday 1st November (14:00 or 15:00).

  • Enough about Mayo and Happe.

  • Appropriate night to be facing the zombies.

  • I'm argue 13,000 is an outstanding effort for a semi-final, and that's before you consider the distance to travel, the lack of public transport options, the price of travel with high ticket prices lum

Surely we don't need a better incentive to beat that lot in the semi by facing hearts or hibs in the final. COYR

That's gonna be a fun Saturday evening shift for Glasgow cops whichever way around it is.

Does anyone know which end of Hampden we’ll get? 😐

The Aberdeen end.

It’s just one of those easily fixed issues that nobody seems to want to fix

In 2026, Scottish football officials still have discussions about which club is the most prod after cup draws.

They could easily fix it. But they don’t. Mind you the sanctions meted out to the ugly sisters for last season’s usual bigoted riot is a welcome change to over a century of sweeping this nonsense under the carpet. So maybe there is may be a glacial style thaw under way.

Asking a large number of people so dumb they:

Advertise that they can't spell legend.

Burn their scarves when they sign a catholic but wave flags in support of a genocidal regime.

Don't understand the meaning of liquidation.

Believe American billionaires with a large sporting portfolio actually give a fuck about them.

To relocate.

What could possibly go wrong?

If it’s a safety issue, then Aberdeen should refuse to play the tie there.

They’ve already got every advantage going, why do we bend over and let them have another one?

Yep this really irks me. Why does no club stand up to the authorites and lets say toss a coin for what end of the ground you get.

Or make it first out of the hat for the draw gets to choose. Which in this case would be them but would make it fairer. For the final I take it they toss a coin for who gets the home dressing room so home team picks the ends.

Reporting Scotland tonight said the game was on the Saturday.

However, some chat doing the rounds that Hearts have asked for their game to be the Saturday to give them an extra day to prepare for Europe.

So don't book the train just yet.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups?

The SFA will do FA because they are too cowardly/bigoted to recognise any injustice.

The club can complain but they will be shooting themselves in the foot.

The smurfs, flagshaggers and roundabout painters have their way at the moment, but it will be their ignorance that will lead to their demise.

It may take longer than we would like of course.

You would only need to stick to your guns once. I’m not sure the other 99 clubs in the top 100 would accept it 🙂

They will get around any issue by not allowing us any fans at the game blaming the actions of a few idiots, sorry, I meant pitch invasion. I see flares mentioned now as well.

Just a point of order.

Could we stop using the R word and just refer to them as Huns (there is usually an expletive afterwards but for the sake of the children, I'd suggest keeping it clean)

The Huns v Aberdeen is confirmed for 1730 on 31st October.

We definitely need to grab this game by the ghoulies.

Did I read we’re getting 50/50 tickets too? As we should of course, fingers crossed for a decent crowd (and performance).

Looked at the seating allocation and looks like Hibs v Hearts is 50/50 but ours is not..

“The hun scum will be allocated tickets across the North, South and West Stands for the 5.30pm kick-off on Saturday October 31, while Aberdeen fans will be accommodated in the South and East Stands.

Heart of Midlothian supporters will be split across the North, South and West Stands for the 3.00pm kick-off on Sunday November 1, while Hibernian fans will be housed in the North, South and East Stands.”

No chance of us selling 50/50 for this one I'm afraid. We wont even shift the 17000 we've been allocated.

It says we asked for a 50% split but were refused and got given 17,000.

I'm fine with that for a semi-final. We sold 13,100 for the last League Cup semi v Celtic in 2024 (and we were in great form at the time) and 12,800 the previous year v Hibs. Anyone who wants a ticket for this one will get one.

It's the bollocks they pull though when we make the final, and use the semi sales as an excuse to give us reduced allocations for the final. You're making us play in Glasgow on a Saturday night in autumn against a team playing in their own city. It's not comparable you idiots.

Thankfully once we take care of Rangers it'll be Hearts or Hibs in the final, so we should get a 50/50 split for that.

So this might be controversial but if a team can only sell 13,000 tickets for a semi but over 20,000 for a final, doesn't that backup every accusation of glory-hunting that gets made?

For the record, all games at neutral venues should start with a 50/50 allocation with scope to shift the boundaries as sales do or do not progress. I'm not saying they shouldn't, just pointing out that 13,000 is a pretty shit effort for a semi I think.
