Dunfermline v The Scottish Cup holders

Was gonna post this in the Motherwell match thread, but seems apt to just start this one early.

Was just saying to someone on my way home from work there that the Dunfermline tie being away is the best thing that can happen to us.

If it had been at home, of course it increases our chances of winning, but it's another 9,000 home crowd, a win expected, and even if we get through it's not going to give our season a massive lift. The same way it didn't when we beat Raith Rovers in the last round. Sometimes even reaching Hampden gets a muted response.

But away from home, Saturday night, 2000-3000 travelling fans - maybe even more - the away end buzzing. One of those nights that - if we win - you get that connection between the fans and the players that we've seldom had this season. The new signings get to see just how good our away support can be if they deliver good performances.

A "proper cup tie" if you like, a chance to make Neil Lennon greet. It's something to look forward to which we really, really needed to keep the enthusiasm going for this season.

Also, despite Hearts, Hibs and Motherwell having significantly better league seasons than us, the odds on us winning a trophy are a lot shorter than it is for them, which is really quite something.

Tickets: Stand behind the goal holds 3,000. When Hibs sold it out they were given an extra 1,000 in the main stand and in the stand opposite, turning the ground almost into a 50/50 split. Saturday night will put a few off but we'll still take very decent numbers I'm sure.

Half the players we signed hadn’t kicked a ball in 6 months ffs.

The other half had only played a hand of games.

What did they expect? Its beyond belief really…

The problem isnt the January recruitment but the dross we signed in the summer.

The poor summer signings have been complemented by the January ones.

It's just a midden right now.

Most of them have been brought in from abroad to be "developed" and sold on for a profit. Most of them probably hadn't heard of Aberdeen before we signed them.

It doesn't matter to them. They still get paid.

It wouldn't make any more difference if they're from Scotland. Most of the team today were.  So don't try that.

Modern footballers are no more than employees. Zero loyalty or love for the club they play for. Absolutely none.

Our ‘new’ manager isn’t coming until summer whether we like this or not. We absolutely cannot continue as is but cannot fill the spot with a permanent manager right now, I’d say doc is more capable and experienced than leven and that is needed right now.

I now have a massive question mark over whether Horneland or Schwarz would take the job after tonight.

That's not an easy fix and they're not in a position where they need the hassle.

Milanovic out of the picture the past few games and into the starting line up.

Armstrong out injured for a few games and then starts two in four days.

Lobban not starting for weeks and thrown in tonight and after Jensen did well midweek.

We were decent against the Tim's and then we come up with tonight's performance.

Reading Leven's interview and he is throwing the players under the bus and admitting that we are in a relegation battle. There is not really any other option other than for him to go. The players are not responding to him at best and we need a different approach quickly to avoid any further relegation concerns. I doubt that is TD but other than the tea-lady who could improve us?

Was that interview from Leven basically him trying to escape?

Sounds like he's pretty much inviting the P45.

It’s an easy gig being employed by Aberdeen. Zero consequences

So here’s a question, what exactly would it take these days to get protests outside the main stand?

I mind protests about Alex Smith when we had the temerity to slip to about 4th or 5th in the league, and got beat in Europe by some team we couldn’t lace the boots of these days.

Zero consequences also comes from the support just continuing to blindly accept utter dross.

Have the support really had that much pride and expectation drummed out of them by years of watching pish?

Seems that way…

To be fair even the clubs with traditionally hardcore passionate supports struggle to get a decent pitchfork protest going these days.

Societal changes.

I don’t think so. But it highlights why I highly doubt someone will come in now versus the summer. We’re a shit show and the new manager will want a window summer and preseason. They’re pretty much fucked if they were to start now. Awful squad with no confidence. That’s why I think you give it to doc for now, at least he’s seasoned, leven isn’t capable  and I fear where we’ll go under him.

Yup. Said pregame too that we need a holding mid and center mid was a concern. Sivert should have prob started over sivert. Don’t think Lobban was poor, but I’d have gone with the more defensive minded molloy over frame too.

Best we can hope for in the short term is Leven sacked and Docherty given the job until summer. Not perfect but I want a head on a pike even if it's just symbolic.

That defeat tonight and more importantly the manner of that defeat can not be ignored and it cannot go unpunished.

The club don’t care. Remember the folk taking the coffin to Pittodrie and everyone ripped the pish right out them? Fair enough but the point they were making was valid

The only thing the club understands is season ticket sales and the DNA scam. If I was after change, I wouldn’t get involved in either

I'm almost embarrassed to post this but phvk it.

What is this whole DNA thing about? I have avoided reading about it all this time and am completely ignorant. What's it all about? Because I've seen a few people posting about it tonight, slagging DC with it.

I think that is true. I was outside Pittodrie shouting Snithy oot but that was a time when we were challenging for everything. Supporters from the last 3 decades have never experienced us seriously challenging and so dont consider the complete shite we are dealing up as completely unacceptable.

Oh and send Cameron back tomorrow. He's built like a schoolboy.

We need tough buggers in our side not fairies. There's battles to be had.

The club want to squeeze the pips out the fans and in return, you get a Chufty Badge. The size of the Chufty Badge depends on the money you hand over to the club

DNA. I'm an old guy who hardly ever goes to games now, so feel I can contribute my ticket money to the club through the  scheme. I can afford it so happy salve my non attendance conscience via direct debit and I get a free shirt every summer that I can squash into an overflowing drawer of Dons shirts

It's extra money you can contribute, above the ticket prices? And you might get some merch out of it?

Absolute dross, players are useless the people running the club are clueless, the coaching team really clueless and clearly like Jimmy don’t know who the best 11 are.  Cup,upsets happen but that was unacceptable tonight, that was a total domination by a championship team who showed mercy in the end by heading for the corner flags instead of going for a fourth

The problem with it was that it was linked to loyalty points. So when a fixture came up like Burnley away, then all those non attending Aberdeen fans that fancied a jolly went straight to the front of the queue. I never saw many of them when we were drawing to Gretna at Fir Park…

It was a solution to a problem that didn’t exist (put your stories about not getting to anfield away here) It would’ve been far more honest just putting a begging bowl out

It's about our loyalty, through loyalty points.

You can go to home and away games and be classed as less loyal than someone who rarely goes, but has top tier DNA membership.

Folk don't go to games and want to contribute, fair enough, but the shyte around it stinks.

As I was in the home end I didn’t get any loyalty points today.

But I now have a semi final to look forward to with my Pars supporting sons.

Last May seems a long long time ago now! 😢

We are a complete shambles from top to bottom and it’s so sad to see. We need a manger in ASAP.

On a brighter note I managed to avoid the Smiths tribute act in Drummonds.
