  1. Aye he might be using us for a bit of leverage. Out of contract in summer, out of favour at Celtic (although they are about to change manager), needs to be playing to be in Scotland team. Talk was Brown could persuade him to join him at Aberdeen.
  2. I'm in favour of Glass. But then I'm also Dave Cormack. Ach I'm willing to give him a try, especially if it brings in the England striker coach, Scott Brown & Leigh Griffiths. The other realistic options on the table don't fill me with much optimism - Stephen Robinson's name has been mentioned an uncomfortable number of times. Everyone forgetting Motherwell were shite when he left them, played 5-5-0 at Ibrox which is unforgivable, got thumped 7-1 at Ibrox too. Not actually seen any consensus on who fans have as a favourite though.
  3. Was he being groomed to be the next Aberdeen manager? I can't recall that ever being suggested. And if he was, and isn't currently ready to manage Aberdeen, why would that be the club's fault? Would it not be down to the guys he's been working under the last few years - ie McInnes & Docherty? Do they? It's going behind your manager's back and doing the dirty on them.
  4. It would have been worse surely had Cormack been speaking to potential managers while McInnes was still in place? There's every chance McInnes was told he could remain until the end of the season and declined. Cant imagine it'd be much fun going in front of the media to explain you've been sacked but are carrying on, likewise the players might lose respect for you. He also probably doesn't want another fourth place finish on his record. If it is Glass, then Aberdeen have actually moved very quickly here. Compare that to Hearts and how long it took then to get Daniel Stendal, Rangers when McInnes turned them down and they went the rest of the season with Graeme Murty, and Celtic who sacked Lennon a week before McInnes yet appear no closer to appointing someone.
  5. Most clubs allow the new manager to pick his own assistant. Aberdeen doing the same isn't a failure on their part.
  6. No. A manager would be signing players, implementing his own tactics, picking his own backroom team. Surely you can tell the difference between a manager and a coach who is working under another manager?
  7. That would mean Paul Sheerin has been a manager for years then, since he's been running the U20s. Aberdeen's U20 results are largely irrelevant. It's about developing the players and preparing them for the first team. That's what Glass' job has been at Atlanta 2.
  8. Did you miss Celtic winning a quadruple treble? I'd say as a captain and an influence on players at the club he's certainly had a big part to play in that. You're dismissing him as a coach without having any knowledge of how good a coach he actually is. The point is, people on here are saying he has no coaching experience. You yourself have said he has "little or no coaching experience". He's been helping coach their U20s as far back as 6/7 years ago, and has done both his B & A licence badges. If Stephen Glass is the manager, then he should be able to pick who he wants to work with, not told he has to use Barry Robson because Derek McInnes may or may not have made some promise to him. Considering how poor we've been at so many things - set pieces, scoring, pressing, creating chances - I don't think an overhaul of our coaching team is a bad thing.
  9. Did you read a single word of my post before replying?
  10. Keane played six games in his final season for Man U before signing for Celtic, and hadn't played for four months before his debut v Clyde. Brown has made 37 appearances this season.
  11. He hasn't been in management for two and a half years. It's not as if Atlanta & Atlanta 2 are separate clubs and he has free reign over signings and tactics. He's running the reserves. His job isn't to get results. His job is to turn these players into first team players and to implement the tactics of the manager (which was Frank de Boer, who was sacked for being shite). The only time he was in management was when he was in interim charge, but he couldn't sign players, had players injured, and due to a few factors he had little time to actually work with them on the training ground. Even so the general feeling was the performances were improving towards the end. I wouldn't judge him on his results. I'd judge him on how good a coach he is, and he's very highly thought of there. If he's watching games then he's going to know the league a lot better than bringing in someone who hasn't paid any attention to Scottish football bar a few old firm games on sky. For example, Ebbe Skovdahl clearly had no idea of the job in front of him. If Robson offers so much, why are we not reaping the benefits? I'd argue that Scott Brown, even at 36, is currently a better player than pretty much all of our midfield. On Roy Keane, there's a video on YouTube of him absolute bossing an Old Firm game at Ibrox. The problem for him at Celtic was his hip, not that he was past it. I'm not aware of any big injuries that Brown is struggling with. They've just got better and younger options now in McGregor & Soro. Considering how our midfield regularly folds against the Old Firm, I'd be more than happy with Brown in there for those games.
  12. I think the Glass/Brown combo is quite an interesting one. Am I excited about it? No. But then can't remember the last time I was genuinely excited about an appointment. But it's a far more interesting option than Stephen Robinson or Neil Lennon. Glass wants to play attacking football, has been a coach for years, will give youth a chance, knows Aberdeen & Scottish football. If we are going to be getting players from Atlanta at least he'll know what he's getting. I was reading a few Atlanta blogs and Glass appeared to be getting the best out of Jon Gallagher over there, they've been raving about him. Scott Brown: You have to separate the personality and the player/coach. Even at 36 (which is what he will be next season) I think he still gives Aberdeen a good year or two, will help bring on Ferguson/McCrorie/Campbell especially, is a leader which we've badly lacked this season. Tactically, again from reading these Atlanta blogs and based on his short time in interim charge, Glass liked a number six coming deep and freeing up the rest of the midfield going forward - can see Brown/McGeouch switching about to do that job and Ferguson & McCrorie going a bit further forward. As a coach, he's been helping out coaching Celtic's youth teams for years, highly thought of there by all the young players. Also talk that if Brown is coming, then Griffiths (out of contract in summer I think) might be persuaded up too. Again, separate the personality & player. A fully fit Leigh Griffiths is a massive improvement on anything we've had up front for a number of years. I was sceptical at first but I'm warming to the idea of Glass.
  13. That's the worrying thing - I actually think we're in a poor state for next season. Need to do a lot of rebuilding yet the income has been hit, which will likely be hit further if McInnes has to be paid off. We need defenders, creative players, strikers and in amongst that some fucking leaders. That's why finishing third is so vital to get that group stage slot. Without it, we'll be in poor shape next season. And it could be a double whammy if a direct rival like Hibs actual land that windfall instead (obviously the Scottish Cup if it gets played good change things).
  14. Fair enough. But aye some of the debates are mindnumbing. The Pure Fitbaw podcast, or whoever it is running their account, was just convinced a new manager - whoever they are - would take us down the table. It's playing it safe: "McInnes will keep us top four, anything else is a risk." As for whether it's a majority or not who want him gone, I think it's hard to say. But I'd argue the majority of those who do back him probably wouldn't be too heartbroken if he did leave.
  15. Labelling Chris Chrichton as a happy clapper just sums up how absurd the phrase happy clapper actually is. I genuinely can't think of one Scottish manager I'd want. Steve Clarke has somehow engineered himself to the top of the pile of Scottish managers despite not doing a huge amount.
  16. To be fair to Cormack (and this could be one of those posts that look really daft when he goes and does the opposite) but he strikes me as the type of guy who would want an exciting name, something to give the fans a buzz. I don't think he's a "who's cheap and available" type of fella.
  17. Tom English going public on the rumours that defeat on Saturday might end McInnes' reign https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55939909
  18. Goodwin? Bit difficult since they got knocked out in the semis.
  19. Aye, so did Paul Hartley, another boy who was once being tipped for the Aberdeen job.
  20. We do this all the time, tip guys for the job after they get a few good results. Stephen Robinson used to be regularly tipped for the Aberdeen job, Jack Ross was the man when he was at St Mirren, Tommy Wright after he won the Scottish Cup. I even remember when John Hughes was perfect for Aberdeen. It won't be long before David Martindale is the front runner. So Jim Goodwin is the latest one, because at clubs like St Mirren you only remember the good results and not the poor ones, ie that before these past two games they had won once in seven games, or that they're one or two defeats away from a relegation fight. He's doing okay. But lets wait until he's been in the job more than five minutes.
  21. BBC article here, although missing some of the info in the EE piece. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-55766510 The suggestion was that the hotel would be knocked down and that the council would consider relocating businesses to other locations, such as the extreme sports building. Photo (hopefully attached) of where the EE think it will be.
  22. I think the debate over a city centre v Kingsford location has been done to death, and I'm sure most of us if given the choice would prefer to stay put. But the club - rightly or wrongly - have always looked at it from a business perspective. They say having two separate sites adds 100s of hundreds a year into the cost, if they have to buy the land that adds more, I'm guessing no feasibility study has been done to determine if the location even works. The club are already struggling to raise £50m for Kingsford - I think they'll need a lot of convincing to consider another location. If the council are suggesting as part of their city centre plan that they'll help with some costs, ie donate the land, additional costs like re-routing of roads, and maybe there's a promise of no restrictions like there is at Kingsford (height), then maybe the club might be persuaded. From a fan point of view I'd love this to go ahead. But I think this'll fizzle out and in a few months someone will be posting in this thread to ask if anything ever came of the talks, followed by a Cormack interview saying the club are confident they'll be in Kingsford by 2028, but that's it a big challenge and zzzz.
  23. Unless the land is being offered up for free I don't see what's in it for Aberdeen. Already have planning permission at Kingsford and building at beach will be no cheaper than there. It's Labour, they have a history of making of cooking up plans that look good on paper but delivering nothing.
  24. Nah I think we're past that now. He beat Rangers three times in Glasgow in the 2018-19 season and it didn't stop the increasing number of fans wanting him out. Once you've lost the support, you've lost them. I don't even think making the Scottish Cup final would save him. I think you would just find many fans saying it's the best way for him to leave having won the cup.
  25. I don't think the Hernandez signing has had much influence over the ability to sign others. Especially when months prior to that McInnes had the chance to sign strikers but instead opted for Curtis Main. Since finishing below Kilmarnock (a poor season where the decline was evident) he has had three transfer windows, and in Scottish terms has been handsomely backed. Summer 2019: Ash Taylor, Curtis Main, Craig Bryson, Ryan Hedges, James Wilson, Funso Ojo. (Loans: Greg Leigh, Zac Vyner, Jon Gallagher). January 2020: Dylan McGeouch, Matty Kennedy, Ronald Hernandez Summer 2020: Jonny Hayes, Tommie Hoban, Greg Leigh (loans: Ryan Edmondson, Marley Watkins, Gary Woods, Ross McCrorie). We were told this is the strongest squad since he took charge. Yet the team is the poorest in his time here.
