  1. easy come, easy go. to be honest, i'm nae sure another striker is a priority. let's get clangfield oot the door and a decent keeper in and we'll be in pretty damn good shape, i say.
  2. as noted elsewhere, i don't believe there's ony chance we'll start the new season with souter in goals. should we get a fee for the balloon langfield, i'd suggest jc will plough the cash straight into buying a replacement. if, as expected, no-one in their right mind wants the clown, i'd hope the c0ckwit eats a steaming bowl of humble pie every day between now and the start of the season, in which case he'll be back between the sticks. hopefully the former, like. langfield has only consolidated my opinion that he has no business turning out for afc. get him punted.
  3. shame if he's not being punted. he is rubbish, after all. for a brief moment there, i thought we were in real danger of having a successful season next year without this clown in goals.
  4. nae surprised at macauley, to be honest. didn't look like he could find his arse with both hands whenever i saw him play. michie at locos. good signing for the team, i'd say. he'll do alright there - although he's going to have to raise his game. they play some decent stuff at harlaw park, ye ken.
  5. have i missed something? are rangers going to offer quarter of a million for him, or are we just asking what we would do if they did? if it's the case that they're desperate to land him (lord alone knows why), then i'd take 250,000 in a heartbeat. i've said on here before that i think langfield's the worst keeper we've had between the sticks since nicky walker and i stand by that. there are plenty of keepers out there if you use a bit of imagination. paul gallacher, tony bullock, hell - even falkirk managed kasper schmeichel (and i don't even think they had an especially bad keeper in lambers in the first place). hibs have found to their cost that a decent keeper is absolutely vital to ensure a consistent challenge. but we'd have been a lot closer to the gers at the end of the season if we'd had one too, i can tell you that. let him go to the fort of the badger. quarter of a mill will buy a lot better than clangers, no foolin'.
  6. i'd be delighted if he was left back in the dressing room. considering we've just signed jackie mac and this fella Kurrant, i'd hope that's richie's days well and truly numbered.
  7. have to say, i'd love this to be true. jc's been making the right noises and says he acknowledges the fact that we don't create enough. to be fair, you're never going to get that from chris clark, so get him on the bench and let's see this new dutch fella light up pittodrie like a second generation hicham zerouali.
  8. to be fair, foster hasn't suddenly become a good player overnight. however, he's definitely better at left back than he is up front, where his lack of ability becomes glaringly obvious. he's still too lightweight and his passing leaves a lot to be desired. but he's still got a decent shot on him and he's probably done enough this last season to feel very aggrieved if he's bombed out of the team. jc seems to have a lot of time for him, so i'd be surprised if he loses his place altogether. left midfield sounds like it could be the place for him. or on the bench.
  9. come on min! let's get carried away! 3-0 the dons on saturday, jackie mac on board to spearhead our assault on europe, a sustained uefa cup run which clears our overdraft and scott brown turns out to be the biggest waste of money since harold brattbak! happy days!
  10. Easily the best finisher at the club. oh boy - did you see the game last saturday? lovell shoulda bagged a hat-trick. mackie gets pelters too, and his finish was tremendous. people are already mentioning lovell in the same breath as peter van vossen after that show last week.
  11. terrific signing. solves our left back problem at a stroke (although ricky's done a sterling job there). as long as no-one we don't want to leave packs their bags (ando, hart), and some of the jokers we DO want out the door (byrne, dan smith, winter) clear off, i think we're looking at the champions league next season. no foolin'.
  12. this is another nothing story. let's face it, clubs have scouts at games EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND of the season. not just at aberdeen either - every professional game in every league up and down the country will have a scout or two from somewhere at it. singling this game out is making a story out of nothing. this comes up all the time because anderson is a good player. let's face it, if he wanted a move, he'd have got one long before now. the boy's going nowhere. don't panic.
  13. to be honest, i'd be mair confident o a killie victory at rugby park than a dandies win at todders. still think we'll be in europe next year, like.
  14. absolutely spot on, min. honestly, it's like the flat earth society over there at times. no matter the evidence to the contrary, some o these clowns won't listen. have some applause on me.
  15. it's another punt and hope, i reckon. our track record of finding quality from the floods of trialists that wash up at todders isn't a great one, unfortunately. i mean, isn't this the US equivalent of junior fitba we're taking him from? nae exactly an auspicious sign, i'd suggest. agree about the tache, like.
  16. currently, i'd have to say chris clark (last week excepted). never really know what he's supposed to be - he's got nae pace, he can't tackle and his record in front of goal is worse than hear'say's record in the top 10. on the all time list, ilian kiriakov takes some beating: looked great on the telly, couldn't even throw the ball to his own team once we'd signed him. toni kombouri (sp?) michael o'neill: i remember him being good once. aye, for hibs. jim hamilton: astonishingly, a man who tried LESS hard for his favourite team than he ever did (and continues to do) when playing against us. cato guntveit: arrived unfit, was unfit the whole time we had him, punted him on unfit. passing was extraordinarily bad, scored about two goals in total. thomas solberg: i'd argue, even worse than kombouri. it's depressing just thinking about all the utter c0cks we've signed over the years, isn't it?
  17. ha ha! well done, great gag. although april fools day was last week. i'd agree that brew did next to nothing on saturday, but to suggest that the lumpen, extraordinarily limited and clumsy oaf that is lee miller is a better player is the most ridiculous thing i've read on this board since it came back.
  18. no mixed feelings on this thread. give him a deal. he's the best footballer at the club by a country mile. unanimous, then.
  19. afc hat is the online equivalent of the staging post in bucksburn. i used to work in said establishment half a lifetime ago, and it was a fraught experience. problem was that all the minkers from boxy, dyce and woodside who had been barred from every other local pub used to wash up in the stager, as that was the only pub that would serve 'em. unfortunately, all the tools who we chucked oot of here ended up there and it's now the dons-flavoured version of the daily record hotline - populated exclusively by mongs who, by the very nature of their williingness to make themselves heard so readily, almost automatically invalidate their own arguments.
  20. kerr would be a terrific asset, and is a big, big step forward from gary dempsey. gavin rae would be even better, i'd argue, but unless he fancies a drop in wages only matched in recent history by that experienced by gerald ratner after his 'total crap' debacle, he won't be coming to todders. still, the fact that these are the types of players we're chasing demonstrates the team SHOULD be getting better in the close season, as opposed to being weakened year after year, which is what was happening at the turn of the decade.
  21. astonishingly (well, maybe not, considering how quiet this place still is), there's been no forensic analysis of the killie game. a quick glance over at afc hat reminded me why i've come back here so sharpish. honestly, i've never seen more idiots in one place since the last time i visited the united states. for what it's worth at this late, late stage: we were absolutely 'king awful for the first half. jc's innovative five at the back was a total shambles. and surely we've seen the last of the enigma that is dan smith. his performance in the first 45 was nothing short of risible - so bad he was even outshone by richie byrne. the midfield was completely non-existant (chiefly as a result of being hellishly outnumbered, i guess) and as a result, neither brew nor mackie got a sniff of the ball. contrary to the lunacy you'll read elsewhere, 70 minutes of craig brewster is better than 90 minutes of any other striker we've got. granted, lovell can feel hard done by after being benched and granted, he looked lively when he came on. but we have no-one at the club with the same footballing ability as brewster, and given the paucity of our play for most of the game, that's an attribute we can't do without. altering the shape in the second half paid much more tangible rewards, and we definitely looked much more comfortable (even if we didn't create a whole lot). mackie looked much better in the second half when he was pushed out wide, and showed great intelligence with the assist for anderson's goal. oh aye, and momo sylla really is honking. some of my tattie howking colleagues used to give the man dog's abuse when he was at the potato dome, which i couldn't understand after seeing some of his performances at st johnstone. but he really is dreadful. his feet don't seem to understand what his brain's telling them to do. astonishing. result from ibrox means it's still on, people (you know what i'm talking about).
  22. might've been. I didn't ask. granted, it's about incidents that occurred some time ago, but not everyone will've heard about em. thanks for your concern about my chums well-being though. and for your innovative use of italics.
  23. just been sent this by a chum. hope it's true. During his time at the Riverside a story about Alan Boksic circulated around Teesside. In a classic Armani suit-and bovver-boots combination, the ex- Juventus star found himself partnered up front by Noel Whelan. He was not impressed. And who can blame him? Whelan was a hard worker, a bustler, but he carried all the attacking threat of Tupperware. At one point during his Boro career, Noel had scored more goals in his own net than he had in the opposition's. Boksic may have been so slothful he appeared to be teetering permanently on the cusp of hibernation, but he had standards. According to the story, one Monday, after a particularly inept display by the future Dons target man, Boksic went in to see the Boro secretary. "What does Whelan earn per week?" he demanded. The secretary told him. "And how long does he have left on his contract?" The secretary told him and the striker stalked out. The next day he returned, waving a cheque. "This is the money Whelan will earn during the rest of his time here. Give it to him now," he commanded , "and tell him to f**k off ."
  24. hart's response is a sensible one. he says he didn't name names, and the story backs that up. however, some sub-editor at the ee has got a trifle carried away and the heading is completely misleading and over the top. i read the rehashed version in the record on saturday and it's the headline that people have seized on, not the substance of hart's interview. you'll see that hart doesn't have a problem with the interview, so it's wrong to blame the ee reporter. i've said this before, but the reporters DON'T write the headlines. you have a faceless sub-editor to blame for that beauty.
  25. i'd be delighted if you could tell us what the difference between being a PR man and being a press officer is. k min, you're one of those who've been extremely vocal in the past about the amount of many afc wastes. having a full-time press officer in-house is financial madness and the removal of such a post shows admirable business sense, if you ask me. wouldn't you rather afc's meagre budget went on players rather than backroom staff? and it's utter delusional nonsense to say that if he was any good that stories like that wouldn't happen. even the best pr / press officer (i'll humour you this once) in the world is at the mercy of cockwit journalists if they chose to misquote / misinterpret or just plain make stuff up.
