  1. Not saying i think it's the right way to do things per se, but it was my thinking of the way the wage structure at AFC works. Also, i think Miller's got at least one Scotland cap, from that much talked about Kirin Cup triumph and we took over his United contract signed at about that time... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/4765811.stm The report from the Bulgaria game doesn't say whether he got on or not.
  2. That's what annoys me. Surely we were worse off before this season, so why are the higher earners being told they'll have to take a pay cut?! The only thing i can think of (other than the financial mismanagement reason) is this: We're implementing a lower basic wage structure, with higher bonuses - performance related pay. But players being players (not the brightest), see this as "oh dear. We're having our pay cut. That can't be done", instead of thinking "hang about, if i work my arse off every week, i could make more in bonuses, further my career and be part of a team that wins things..." Of course, i'm probably being being wildly optimistic in the thinking at AFC. They probably have just made a cunt of the accounts.
  3. Correct me if i'm wrong, but were our higher earners not recent Scotland internationals/squad regulars when they signed their deals? Is this not the reason why they are the current high earners? Now, given that Hart's never even had a sniff of Scotland action, what right does he have to demand a pay packet equal to that of someone who is/was an international? Anyway, i'd be quite delighted to see Barry stay and i also wouldn't be surprised to hear it if him and Calderwood signed new deals at around about the same time. I'm sure he said himself in December sometime that whoever was in charge would have a big bearing on whether he signed a new deal or not. Maybe he's waiting to see what JC does...
  4. I dunno if it's that. I think i maybe expect this kind of behaviour more from Barry, as he's NOT a local guy, if that makes sense...
  5. Au contraire. I do believe i will not miss a single game before the money grabbing chancers leave so that i can make sure i get every last bit of abuse out at them. I'm more inclined to do this at Clark and Hart than Nicholson though. Not sure why.
  6. I thought we signed him up before Christmas. Ah well, every cloud and all that then. Edit: However, if you class Byrne as a player, then that's us up to 8 out of contract who could sign be signing pre-contracts with other teams on their day off today...

  8. I admire your optimism. However misplaced i fear it may be...
  9. This fucking club really annoys me sometimes. Did nobody ever wonder when they were making up all these contracts "hmmm... i wonder if it might be a dodgy idea to have all the players out of contract at the same time as the manager..?" There's also Miller, Lovell and Souter (for all that he's worth) who could sign pre-contracts tonight if they wanted to. Christ, that's 7 players who could all go at once. Ridiculous mismanagement i reckon. Still, at least we got Byrne got tied up nice and early. If Jimmy does leave, is Byrne his leaving gift in the same way that Balde was Martin O'Neill's to Strachan...?
  10. Because they've done it in games against Dnipro and Copenhagen they see the more run of the mill games as being a bit dull, perhaps? I've often wondered if it's become something of a culture thing at AFC over the past 10-15 years: every good season seems to be followed by one where the team just does not seem to give a shite, as if they've decided "well, we were good last year. See what we can do? We've nothing to prove to anyone now..." And so begins another descent into general pishness.
  11. Never mind, this lad Bus sounds like he'll fit right in...
  12. See Diamond's interview in the Sunday Mail today saying he'll announce his future tomorrow? "It'll be interesting to see the reaction from the fans and the dressing room. At the moment i'm an Aberdeen player and will give 100%..." Now i'm getting a bit worried. Online version (containing less quotes than the paper version): http://www.sundaymail.co.uk/sport-news/scottish-football/spl/aberdeen-fc/2008/01/06/zander-drops-quit-hint-78057-20276902/ Starting to think my early thread optimism was misplaced. I'd still be surprised to see all the "rebels" go, but now i'd be more surprised if more than 2 of the 4 remaining stay.
  13. And then other teams think "hang about, he's on a free and they've not offered him a contract..." offer him a deal at money we couldn't hope to match, and we're stuck with a Miller who's preserving himself for a new club - uninterested in doing much of anything for us. Bit of a no win situation that... Personally, i think the Brewster factor has been absolutely huge in Miller's form at AFC. He was looking promising, Brewster comes in, takes his place in the team and it all goes to shit. Brewster goes, and a few weeks later, his form/confidence returns. I think there's absolutely no coincidence there.
  14. Well, it's as good as a done deal then...
  15. His contract runs out in June/July, not January. The "fact" he's been offered more money means we've accepted a bid for him, or else he's been tapped up. Also, is Robo Hart's agent to "know" he's leaving in January? Or is he merely speculating for some wind uppage using some plausible sounding ideas?
  16. And therein lies the truth. Load of pish IMO. I'd be surprised if we keep all those players mentioned (see you later Lovell, sadly), but i'm quite confident we'll keep most of them. And Gunthar? Name your source caller. I heard they were called Andreas and had big bushy moustaches.
  17. Or, in other words, "go on then, prove me wrong..." Normally, i'm not really one to praise Jimmy's meeja interaction, but i think he's done most things right this week. Miller's set some good standards this season, and this should maybe ensure he keeps to them.
  18. I could see McLeish recalling him when his loan ends in January, for little reason other than to have a look at him and see what he's like compared to the rest of his squad. Hope he doesn't go, but i just don't think Sone's going to be hanging round here too long.
  19. £10 in May this year. Bought £8.99 of beer with it. Wasted the rest.
  20. Something i wondered about was the reason why Aluko and Maguire both came off at half time. Neither had particularly good games, but would their subbing yesterday be anything to do with the fact that neither has any kind of physical presence about them? Lovell and Seve came on, and seemed to put themselves about more than either of the players they replaced.
  21. Even injured i'd have Diamond in for Mair. Why does he not want to tackle people?!?! Clark is not a central midfielder. Never has been, never will be. Severin looks like he's got some of his drive back, but i'd be happier with him if some of his passing came back soon as well. Shite, shite game. We scored more than they did though, so that'll do for me.
  22. Personally, i'd ditch Mair for Diamond, but that'd be the only change i'd make from last week. I'd like Aluko or JDV to start, but i think if that was to happen JC would sacrifice Maguire.
  23. That's why i'm wondering if it's as good as the soundbite headline suggests. The article even says we've used some of it already. In SPL terms, it is a good amount of cash though and i'm not going to grumble if we see some good players coming in as a result.
  24. Speaking of Snoyle, did anyone else see he was freed/sacked by his club in Holland the other week? Turned up fat for pre-season, then got arrested for domestic violence. He's gone to some second division team in Holland now. £1.4 million sounds quite good. Over 3 seasons does not sound so good. But it's some much needed transfer money in the kitty at any rate.
