We can speculate by looking around at what is actually happening in the real world. Surely they don't just talk and talk and talk and talk in the boardroom. Surely decisions are made now and then. When did you last see anything pro-fans coming out of the Aberdeen Football Club boardroom in the past ten years? I can't remember anything other than the centenary year, and that was organised by a specialist committee. Therefore, CG in my view is not worth his place on the board.

Scott Severin - Free, but one of the highest paid Dons players of all time Barry Nicholson - £250,000 Steve Lovell - £250,000 Lee Miller - again free, but in the highest-paid-players bracket ... and JC was given a warchest of £650,000 of private investment to try to get Miller's signature in previous seasons Jimmy was given plenty of money to play with. On the other hand, he did actually qualify for Europe with these players, so there is an obvious co-relation between speculating to accumulate!

I say back McGhee. Give him a chance with his own squad. But also give him a free swing of the axe to clear out ANY players he doesn't want ... that includes players who still have contract terms to see out.

Is McGhee on a 1year or a 2year contract? If it's 1year, I seriously doubt he'll still be a Pittodrie employee in June. I know I've said all along that ultimately it is the players on the park who produce the performance. But if McGhee can't motivate his staff over a two week period to beat a side like St Johnstone, then there's no real hope for him as Aberdeen manager. I'm disappointed at how things have panned out so far, as McGhee was and still is a real legend at Aberdeen. But like Bobby says, it pains me to see such a prolific player become such a woeful manager and be booed by sections of the Red Army. What pains me even more is, when Willie was misfiring, when Alex Miller was misfiring, when Ebbe was misfiring ... there always seemed to be a little glimmer of hope. Now, though, the players are gash, the funds are not there, and the once-loyal support who used to stick by the Dons through thick and thin are seemingly drifting in their thousands. This is just my observations from afar, but to me it sounds as though all that is trying to be achieved is a new Red Ultras supporters group that has a face on the board. So long as key individuals from the previous Red Ultras remain out of the equation, I'm not too adverse to this idea. I mean, let's face it, in the decade that Chris Gavin has been the fans' rep on the board, he's done pretty much nothing but sit there and say "Yes Mr Milne".

Got to wonder where their money is coming from, considering they were in administration only a handful of years ago. We, on the otherhand, have never been in administration, yet we struggle to rub two haepennies together

In actual fact, he called a small minority of fans morons because of their actions towards the club's players and manager. Anyone would think Strachan was giving a Durrant-esque blanket accusation towards the entire Aberdeen fanbase. Hey, let's face it. It's not like the Sun to let the facts of the story get in the way of a top-quality headline.

I would've thought there'd be better quality players in the free-market than the cheap-market. There'll still be plenty of Bosman players available this summer who would normally cost a bob or two. Paul Iffil from the Wellington Phoenix would be awesome. He's the Phoenix' top scorer this season with 13 goals, and is itching to get back into the British leagues.

McGhee is the Aberdeen manager from 12th June 2009 to 31st December 2009, hence his inclusion. I was tempted to put Keith Birkenshaw up there, as he managed us for two games (both draws) in the wake of Roy Aitken's sacking. But then I also thought of putting the first option as Smith/Scott and then the second option as just Smith, seeing as he did manage us for a period without Scott. I went for Smith/Scott. In my opinion, I think Calderwood has probably done the best with the resources available to him. Smith had money to back him, no debt hanging around the club's neck, he had a youth system that was the envy of most British clubs, and he had the Old Firm by the balls. If all the managers had what Smith/Scott had at their disposal, I'm sure we wouldn't be in the position we are in now. Although in saying that, I think the fact that so much money was granted to Aitken and Alex Miller is the catalyst that began the crippling of Aberdeen Football Club.

After a wee break, let's get back to deciding on the team of two decades. We've now got our first eleven, with two clear favourites upfront in Shearer and Gillhaus. Your first choice pairing stole two-thirds of the votes, more clear-cut than I thought it would be. So we've got our team. Now we need someone to manage it. Now the rules for this, as per previous rounds, is you need to choose your manager based on their performances for Aberdeen FC from 1st Jan 1990 to 31st December 2009. This poll will run until next Sunday.

Despite the shiteness of the past few weeks, despite the empty coffers, despite the shite standard of football on the park in recent months, despite the constant humiliation at the hands of lower-league opposition, despite no silverware in over 15 years ... despite all of this, we are still able to pull regular (albeit dwindelling) crowds that other SPL clubs can only dream of. In Scottish terms, Aberdeen still is a massive club. It is a club who can and should be fighting for at least 3rd place every single season. It is a club who should be at least in semi-finals every season. It is a club who should be in European competition every single season. All I ask is that Aberdeen FC does what it should do!

To be honest, FJ, I really would rather we had a player-deficiency than have cnuts like Mackie, Aluko, Kerr and McDonald sapping our wagebill dry with the square-root of fuckall effort coming out of them. Yes, Mackie's had some nice touches and some nice goals lately. But he is NOT SPL quality. If I remember rightly, Leigh Hinds and Leon Mike had some "nice touches" now and then. Hell, even David Zdrillic scored a nice goal once. Doesn't mean I ever want to see any of them at the club ever again!

I feel for McGhee. I don't give a fuckin rats arse for the players. Yes McGhee's played pretty shite in the transfer market, such as putting all his eggs in the Stephen Hughes transfer in the summer ... only to be left with Grassi. Those players, however, need to be sold/released/whateverittakes. McGhee pours his heart out after last week's Falkirk defeat, and the players react with this sort of shite? Losing to NINE MEN??!!! Every single one should be culled from the club WITHOUT EXCEPTION! They don't deserve to be playing for a club of Aberdeen's stature. Let them rot in the lower reaches of the Scottish and English leagues. I for one will not miss Mackie, Aluko, Kerr, McDonald and every single one of those wasters if we were to get rid of them in the summer. Sick to death of the mediocrity that is being accepted by Aberdeen players.

Just incase you missed this on a previous thread. I don't care if this is a plea from an AFC-Chat regular, he has the best interests of Aberdeen Football Club at heart. I can't make it due to geographical issues ... but I urge anyone from Donstalk interested in helping create a new Red Ultras-like supporters group to read on .... Dear DonsTalk, A few weeks ago I wrote to the support asking for your opinions, ideas and support to help improve the atmosphere at Pittodrie. The response has been excellent and heart-warming, with many responses from all sections of the Aberdeen support, which is fantastic as we can achieve so much more if when we are united in a common cause. Recent events make it even more important. We, the fans, must stay together as at the end of the day it is OUR club. The cast of players and management will always change, but the generations of us remain and hopefully always will there to back the team through thick and thin. I firmly believe we can make a positive difference to the current atmosphere by bringing more noise and colour to the stands, and from the response shown by you to our call is that you feel the same. Time to get down to basics- I would like to invite you all to a public meeting in the Broadhill Bar (Upstairs Lounge) on Saturday the 20th March at 11am, The day of the Dundee United game at Pittodrie. Everyone in the support is very welcome to attend. The aim of the meeting shall be as follows; 1) Decide what we feel the most important basic changes are that have to be made to improve the atmosphere at Dons games. 2) Appoint a group of people, drawn from all of us, to help further those aims, who will liaise with club with regard to organising displays and towards getting the changes required made to make the atmosphere better at Pittodrie. 3) Decide when and how we will approach the club with these aims before next season begins. To help with this, as many of you need to attend as possible, from all sections of our support. Season ticket holders, supporters clubs representatives, groups of fans both official and unofficial, message board regulars and irregulars, the committed, the occasional and the disillusioned- anyone who is Aberdeen needs to have a voice with regard to backing the team positively on a match day. Obviously to help with the running of the meeting, and for those who cannot attend, it will help if you have considered a lot of the issues beforehand and let us know your ideas, and what help you may be able to offer. To do this, I’d like you to consider the answers to the following three questions and e-mail the answers back to me. Which three off the field changes would most improve the atmosphere at Pittodrie? Who do you feel within the support can best represent these views? What are you prepared to do to help make these things happen? We have an opportunity here to speak with one voice and make the future in the stands at Aberdeen a brighter, more vibrant and independent one. Dave Matthews Bands! Crikey, nae heard them for many years. I bought their "Under the Table and Dreaming" album when I worked in USA back in 1997. Was quite a relaxing sorta album, although nae really one I could listen to in one-go. I put them in the same category as Gomez. Whipping Picadilly is an album I own, but can only listen to one or two songs at a time ... and even then only listen to them maybe once or twice a year.
