My Hearts mate that agrees with Rico was also there and this is what he had to say, he means Dave Cormack!

I'm not surprised by either of these to be honest. McInnes isn't an idiot. Cormack came in with grand plans, but with absolutely no idea how to implement them. McInnes will have known the way clubs were going in terms of control over signings and managerial succession planning, and I think he'd have always been amenable to it. What he wouldn't have been amenable to is the half arsed approach that Cormack was taking towards it. He had the example of Hernandez, and he'll have likely thought that Cormack was full of shite. Ultimately, McInnes was going to be responsible for Cormack's mistakes (and was, given the final January window), and he'd have been reticent to give up control on that basis. He was proven entirely correct too. Three managers have been expended on Cormack's experiments. They've had the ridiculous task of playing entertaining football, with signings made via a system still a massive work in progress, with no proper backroom team to do the recruitment work. Had we not won the cup, then it might have taken a fourth manager too.

I watched 10 minutes of his 90 minute Q&A with Hearts fans before I got bored. A lot of it appeared to be playing to the crowd. "The days of a two-horse race are over" - loud applause, etc.

But I think he genuinely believes Hearts are going to pull away from the rest and be the Old Firm's equal.

This is the third time in the past 26 years I can remember Hearts coming out with these statements. There was the SMG investment around 1999 that they said would mean there would be no doubt over who was now the third force. Then it was Romanov. Now this fella.

Nothing wrong with a bit of ambition, but I would maybe wait until you've been in Scottish football for more than five minutes before dismissing Aberdeen, Hibs and the rest, and stating you're now up there with the Old Firm.

Have to say, this guy really intrigues me and I don't see him as a bluffer or con artist at all in the same way as Romanov etc.

The Brighton thing sounds decent, they are a modest club and have managed some good finishes in the EPL (8th last year, 2024 11th, 2023 6th, 2022 9th).  Part of me thinks, well the TV money is astronomical down there and with decent management and a well run club, it would be possible to achieve such things.  Not like they have gone and won the title or anything but good work nonetheless.

But.......then you look at the club he is involved with in Belgium, Union Saint-Gilloise.  The average attendance is about 7,000 and he took over in 2018.  If you look simply at their transfers in the last few years it is staggering (€61M in player sales this year, €25M last year, €40M the year before).

I have heard a lot of people suggest that Scotland is different and that Rangers and Celtic are on a different scale to the clubs in Belgium but if you look at the kind of money Anderlecht, Gent and Club Brugge are spending on players it is very similar.  Brugge in particular are bigger spenders than Celtic.

Based on what I have read on Bloom, I can honestly see Hearts challenging maybe in 2 or 3 seasons.

If I'm reading that right, the team he played for that got promoted from Portuguese 2nd Division didn't fancy him in the 1st Division so loaned him to a team back in the 2nd Division. Doesn't scream £1m+ but who knows.

Definitely seems an odd one.

Nae doubt the Jambos are wanking themselves into a frenzy over the fact that they have broken their transfer record and singing the praises of Jamestown Analytics totally ignorant to the fact that they have overpaid for a Portuguese second division player 😂

What was their transfer record?

Questionable?

Unpredictable?

And...."Hearts' previous record fee is thought to be the £850,000 they paid Genk to sign Bosnian winger Mirsad Beslija in January 2006"

 Canna mind much about him...🤔

Unless the sign means something I’m not seeing, we definitely shouldn’t be throwing stones at other fans.IMG_1028.thumb.png.02cae45ec864a80b0312047e409182ad.png
