Mark Reynolds signs on loan till end of season

Quite a lot of rumours that we are to sign Reynolds on loan from Sheffield Wednesday. Left from well to them for £100,000 this time last year.

All our players seem to go south before heading back north to sign for one of our rivals with their pocket full and their tail between their legs.  Don't see why we shouldn't tap this market as well.

Anyone of any use heading south this season?

as I mentioned in the other thread, id heard we were linked with him in the summer but assumed it was bollocks. Hopefully its not though as he would be a perfect replacement for foster. please let this be true!

Was he a full back? I always though he was a centre back. Wouldnt say no to this anyway if he were to join

I think he's a centre back that can play at left back.

But he's ginger.  :-\

Apparently he slagged the fuck out of AFC football club not long ago. Probably true but it's not something I remember.

Aye he can play at both positions as far as I remember.

A centre half!  :hammer:

I was under the impression the guy was a left back. Either way, that's the position we will be getting him in to play. He definitely played for Motherwell there a few times.

He's definitely capable of playing both positions. I'm not concerned by this either. It's not like Jute would be happy this early in the day ;)

Definitely remember seeing him playing centre for Scotland U21s and for Motherwell most of the time. Can play left back as cover but have we not learnt from the McArdle experiment that playing a centre half at full back usually ends up biting you in the arse. Would much rather we went out and got player whose best position is full back and not some one that can cover there at a push.

Always liked Mark Reynolds when he was at Motherwell, very cool on the ball but deffo as a Centre half/Sweeper behind Craigan ,, NOT a left back. Problem with another centre half being totally left sided is that Considine is the one out the rest of the Backs that has been playing really well and really don't think that works having nobody in the middle with a right foot.

Deal done apparently

From memory reynolds was a decent player and happy to have him at Pittodrie. Having said that, presuming he is a replacement for Foster, would seem the wrong way to spend what limited cash we have. Perhaps we will get a LB (and RB and winger and striker and goalie and...) in too but our managers seem to averse to having a balanced squad.

btw am I right in saying Milsom played LB for Fulham a fair bit in the past? Could that be an option?

Mark Reynolds is a decent player, certainly improves the squad so on that basis is a good signing.

Wingbacks? Osborne/Jack on the right?

This is funny, taken from his wiki leak page,

On 4 June 2008 it was reported that Rangers had made an offer of £750,000 for Reynolds, which was turned down.[2] Then-Motherwell manager Mark McGhee explained that he wanted to retain the club's better players ahead of their UEFA Cup campaign.[2]

On 31 August 2010, it was reported that Swansea City had put in a bid for the defender, which was turned down by Motherwell as it did not meet the club's valuation for the player, who was in the final year of his contract.[3]

Reynolds played his 200th game for Motherwell in the Lanarkshire Derby in January 2011.

[edit]Sheffield Wednesday

An offer of £100,000 plus additional clauses from Sheffield Wednesday was accepted in January 15, 2011.[1] The deal was completed a day later.[4]

At one point Rangers valued him at nearly 1million, probably to hide unpaid TAX bills...  :o :o :o  then swansea thought he was worth a wack as well, then sold on for only 100k ???

Is this the quality of player we need?

No idea what all that proves other than McGhee either being daft and not cashing in on a player at the peak of his value or genuinely wanting to keep a good player.

The simple answer is yes but whether he is the type of player is quite a different matter.

Anyone else just a wee bit pleased we seem to be doing business at this stage in the window rather than when it's despo stage in the last minutes? This smacks of fucking planning! Not the AFC way!!

It does seem a bit strange. I wouldn't speak too soon just in case however

True, we'll see if the usual rules apply to AFC dealings of recent years continue ie nae full backs.

Welcome aboard Mark!

Good player.

As Funster said, welcome aboard Mark! I hope it works out for all parties concerned

Oh and well done AFC! Being pro-active for once!  :AFC:

Into the squad for tomorrow if the paperwork is done in time.  Have they changed the rules on this? I seem to remeber players needing to be registered what seemed likes weeks in advance to play in the Cup.
