McNamee - 10 minutes from signing

David McNamee was 10 minutes away from becoming Craig Brown's first signing for Aberdeen last night before the blizzard conditions in the north east put his ambitions on hold.

The former Scotland full-back was about to land at Aberdeen Airport but the state of the runways meant he was forced to return to the Midlands, putting his move to Pittodrie on hold.

"I'd flown up from Birmingham and we were 10 minutes outside Aberdeen when the pilot was told that we wouldn't be able to land until 4.10, which was half an hour later," said the 30-year-old. "So we circled the airport for half an hour and then the word came through that the airport wouldn't re-open until five o'clock.

"It turned out that our plane didn't have enough fuel to wait that long so we had to return to England. Once we got back we discovered that they'd postponed the re-opening of Aberdeen until 7pm."

McNamee had been due to undergo a medical this morning before signing a deal until the end of the season.

He'd played in two bounce games for Brown and Archie Knox at Motherwell last week and was under consideration for a place in the squad to face the Steelmen tomorrow.

"It's incredibly annoying to have got so close and then to have everything held up by something as unavoidable as snow," said McNamee, a League Cup winner with Livingston in 2004.

The full back we've been crying out for.

Has he signed yet?

Listened to Redtv and they had hoped for him to be here today and get his medical done.

Obviously the weather has put paid to him flying up. SO I'd hope that if he's keen to come the guy would jump in the car and drive up.

You'd think it was Scott of the Antartic that we are trying to sign - has he made it to Base Camp Dyce yet?

Maybe he doesn't have a driving license.

Maybe he doesn't have a driving license.

Then he should get a train.

Have you nae seen the news? All the train companies are going:

That doesn't usually stop people from Glasgow driving though. ;)

I fucking well managed to drive from London to NW Scotland on Friday. What a fucking wimp ;D

Thought you said there was no snow in England?;)

Did you steal the AFC Chat server?

Damn, damn, damn, guilty as charged

I don't like the smell of this deal. Does McNamee live 30 miles up a single track farm road? I challenge anybody to not be able to make it to an airport  these last 2 days, and not be able to make a flight to ABZ.

I accept that he made an attempt to get here last week and was thwarted by conditions, but I get the impression his agent is touting him around other interested parties now.

If he's not here by 5pm tonight, fuck 'im.

He's coming up today in his immortal Ford Capri so he'll definitely get here because MT's hasn't broken down.

I accept your challenge.  Now where is my DeLorean...

Tis a strange one, given he has not had a club yet this season, it seems a bit daft to risk a contract by touting himself about.  We like a good saga though, wouldn't read too much in to iy.

whew! signed, dealed AND delivered then!

It's bizarre that it's gone all quiet on that front.

Read the date of the story, frunk.

haha oops...ignore

Then why didn't you contact the club and offer to drive him up?

Call yourself a real fan!? ;)

In an obvious response to my ultamatum of a few hours ago, according to RedTV, he's expected this afternoon, says Broon.

If he's still in Plymouth he'll have been affected by the weather. Good lot fell here and the further South-west you go the more they have had apparently.

The radio's been saying since this morning that he'd sue up today so I don't think you can take the credit for pushing this deal through, SS.
